I support this place ’cause the cash machine is free … simple as that … I also got a free slurpie on 7−11−13 this year, one of 37 – 11 establishments that provided me with slushie brain freezing goodness that day … I had never wanted to try a slushie until they gave me 3 that day for free, I made ‘my rounds’ on the way home from work. I have not had a slushie since … I lived large on July the 11th this year. I had my way with 7 – 11, it just laid back and enjoyed it. For this, I give this place 5 stars. :)

For my Great 7 – 11 Adventure on July 11th, I this was the store I started at. Vanessa Williams be damned, I set out for my favorite 7 – 11 right away. The first, and what I anticipated would be one of the best, since it’s my friendly neighborhood convenience store. Living in the West Highlands by way of Edgewater, I’ve set foot in this 7 – 11 countless times, far more than any other store. So while my bias should have edged this particular location up to the top of the pile, the customer service I witnessed here was really unsatisfactory. Like all the stores I visited on 7/11, this mart was assessed on five categories: Gas Price, Slurpee Flavors, Business Flow, Customer Service and Location(with special emphasis on the two final qualities). Wanting prepare my vehicle for the voyage, I decided to fill my tank at this store. A gallon of regular unleaded gas was $ 2.41. Unfortunately for my wallet, it turned out that this was the median price for gas, with some stores costing a nickel less per gallon. Whoops… looks like I’ll be going down the street next time. Slurpee selection at this store are always agreeable with me, since my requisite flavors are always available: Mountain Dew, Coke, and Cherry. In addition to that, Liquid Artillery(blue raspberry), Banana, and Crystal Light Apple Mango. Feeling adventurous, I tried the sugar free flavor… to find a perplexing taste that was simultaneously too sweet, too sour, AND tasted like fake sugar. Yech! No more Crystal Light for me. The store was moderately busy today, with a line forming near the Slurpee machine, but was well-staffed but three friendly clerks, all familiar faces. Well, more like two and a half friendly clerks. I picked up a pack of gum in addition to my Slurpee(wanting to patronize at least ONE7 – 11 store today), but when I went to ring up my purchase, the attendant grumpily informed me that I’d grabbed the wrong cup, slightly larger than the 7.11 oz free samples. He charged me for a cup refill, and sent me on my way. Before I left the store, I overheard him accost several other patrons about picking up the right cup(not positioned in plain view to anyone) so they didn’t suffer the same fate. Most of the stores I visited today had signs or other displays letting customers know which cups would yield a free bounty, ahead of time. I wonder why my favorite franchise was not this industrious? While I understand that 7⁄11 is probably the busiest day for any clerk working at this chain, this clerk’s behavior hardly seemed justified. Okay, so I grabbed the wrong cup on accident… I would’ve been happy to go back and get a sample instead, had I been given the chance. I’ve never witnessed customer service like this at the store, so I will chalk it up to the overworked nature of the day, but still, this isn’t going to warrant any new customers. In spite of some frigid interaction with the staff, I still rate this store highly due to its location. Facing the northwest corner of Sloan’s Lake, this store is a veritable oasis during walks around the lake, particularly on hot summer afternoons. It’s also positioned near the Highlands, but somehow avoids excessive traffic or lines that accompany nearby stores. This prime real estate, combined with the normally breezy relationship I’ve accumulated with the staff here, are what keep me coming back several times each week. Stay tuned for a more deserving review someday…
