So the BBQ I had was excellent. I had the chopped pork. Hickory smoked shredded pork, its fairly unique to North Carolina and hard to find outside of NC. They do it right. I had a side of baked beans. They do homemade beans-really good flavor with chunks of stuff in them other than the beans, and not just concession beans with a little salt. The can of soft drink was a very southern touch. The cost was high for what I got, though. They need two sides with the lunch special, not one, and they also need to offer sweat tea. The street pickup at Larimer didn’t have all of the advertised menu items the day I went. I’ll go back, but will try the restaurant on Champa next time.

If you work downtown like me then you know a good BBQ place to hit for lunch is a total bonus. I had never been here before but as we were walking back from the Corporate Tug of War contest(my company lost first round by the way) we saw this wonderful smelling BBQ stand and decided to get some lunch. Most of us got the BBQ pork sandwich. I didn’t know what to expect but when she started manually pulling the pork in the back I knew it would be good. It’s fresh, smoked with love and not drenched in BBQ sauce. She pulled the fresh pork and put a pile on the sandwich topped with a nice helping(not too much) of BBQ sauce that was YUMTASTIC. I also got the potato salad which was totally homemade and fresh as can be. You made a lover out of me, I will be back!

If you work downtown or happen to be down on the mall Monday through Friday treat yourself and stop by for some of Denver’s best BBQ. Whatever your favorite BBQ meat, you won’t be disappointed; my personal fav is the pulled pork with the links being a close second. Sides may seem small at first glance but the flavors are so strong you’ll realize you don’t need a pile to be satisfied. If you can handle the heat, be sure and slather your brisket with the jalapeño BBQ sauce.

Great location on the 16th street mall. I come here every few weeks and always get the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad. The sandwich is a little on the small side and can leave you wanting more if you come in really hungry. I also saw Joe Biden here when the DNC came to town.

*Hands-down* the best barbeque we’ve had since we moved to Denver. We happened to stop by Boney’s after the aroma wafted by us while walking by one day, and I’m glad we did. Everything from their wings(new addition to the menu!) to their collard greens to their truly amazing sweet tea is just incredible. The folks there are really friendly, take pride in their food, and it shows.

I love this place. To me I think they have the best BBQ in Colorado. I have tried brother bbq, and it was not as great as this mom and pop place. There potato salad, pulled pork, spare rib tips and mac n cheese are awesome. I also enjoy the sweet tea.

So so BBQ. Brisket wasn’t anything special. Ribs were better. I did not really enjoy the baked beans, but the chunks of meat in them were a plus. They have a pretty good variety of sauces from regular BBQ to jalapeño infused. Not world changing, but it gets the job done.

This place is slammin! Pulled pork is out of control, brisket is bad ass and the sides make me giggle like a school boy! I just wish they were open later. I guess makin bomb bbq is touch work.

This place is amazing… you may have to wait for a little while(this isn’t fast food) — but it is very much worth it. I am a huge fan of BBQ, and this is about as close to perfection as it gets for the cost.

Quick sammich– Carolina style?, YUM. Good ribs, good meat, good GOD! I’ve seen the other reviews, I know your type, you judge the meat by the sauce. You gotta get below the surface! Don’t be shallow, go DEEP. Rub your teeth on the bone, strip it clean, get messy! MMMM slurp it baby, it’s sweeeet-tea.You like to get the sausage, don’t you… it’s hot, hot, hot. Split a sampler between two, I like to share. Have a turkey leg and walk around like it’s the fair. On the mall is great for in a hurry, under Macdonalds is better because they have a fryer and vinegar sauce.

If you watched the Democratic National Convention, Boney’s is where VP Joe Biden stopped off for lunch upon his arrival in Denver. Currently a kiosk in Writer’s Square, this popular lunch spot will soon open a sit-down location as well. The pulled pork and potato salad come highly recommended.

Convenient, quick service, good sauce… we had lunch here on a whim, and the Carolina pulled pork was pretty good, perhaps on the dry side, but a few squirts of the house sauce fixed that. The hot link was pretty juicy too. Would consider this place again if I’m hungry and in the area.

++Fast, cheap, easy, breezy, dank bbq street vendor. Biker Jims is right down the street and gets a lot of much deserved hype, but this place is definitely worth a visit as well. menu is has pulled pork, brisket, ribs, typical sides. NO cornbread though :(

I’m not sure why people rate this«place» so high… they must have never had REALLY good barbeque. Being a HUGE fan of Jabos down by the Tech Center, and after seeing the decent reviews here, I was excited to give Boney’s a try. I was sorely disappointed. I ordered the Carolina and 1 rib. The meat on both were extremely dry. The sandwich was decent, but with all the other good food choices downtown, I doubt I’ll be back for more. The rib didn’t have much flavor in the way of a rub or sauce. And again, extremely dry. That was the big turn off for me. The two-star description of «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» couldn’t be more spot on.

Dizam! Smokey’s Smokehouse is awesome! My coworker and I were teased by the smell of barbecue fumigating throughout Writer’s Square. We saw Smokey’s Smokehouse sitting at the corner of 17th and Lawrence and decided to give it a shot. We both ordered the # 1, which is Smokey’s pulled pork sandwich, 1 side(choice of baked beans, coleslaw, or potato salad). I ordered my meal with the baked beans and my coworker ordered the coleslaw. The service was quick! My coworker and I had just enough time to comment on the weather, the aroma of barbecue, and the potential for coffee before her meal was up. I placed my order and didn’t even have enough time to search through my pockets for a missing $ 10 and $ 5 bill that I had the night before. We sat at the public table just behind Smokey’s Smokehouse and dug in. I sat there and stared at my pulled pork sandwich sitting on it’s foil wrapping that I had just ripped through wondering if I should be proper and eat it with a fork, or if I should be a man about it. I made notice of my coworker already enjoying her first bite and barbecue sauce that covered the areas around her mouth. I couldn’t resist. Dig in! The first bite was so delicious! Followed by the second. The third… Amazing. The pulled pork was so juicy and smokey, soaked in it’s barbecue sauce that it was clearly marinated in. I then proceeded to enjoy the baked beans, which are delicious! Chunks of pork, sausage, and a delicious sauce. What more could I ask for? The meal was so good, my coworker and I had to tell everyone waiting in line in front of Smokey’s kiosk what a treat they were in for, after we contemplated ordering another sandwich. If you’re in the mood for quick, delicious barbecue, Smokey’s Smokehouse is the place, Denver!

I attend the local college and decided to eat here during lunch. I was initially attracted because they accept visa and so I went ahead and ordered a pulled pork sandwich. Right as they were making it, I asked if I would switch to the smokehouse sampler and they easily made arrangements for my last minute switch. Of the many bbq restaurants I have been to, this restaurant has to be one of the best. I left smiling all the way back to class.

OHYES. Ribs. I sucked on my rib bone whilst walking around LoDo. Turkey leg. I purchased one to eat later on my plane ride back home. However, I sat next to some vegetarians on the plane ride back home and I didn’t want to distract them with my foot long, smokey turkey leg. I ate it as soon as I got off that plane! It was sooo goood. The meat is slightly sliced and then brined to keep it salty and tender. And the smokey flavor is all the time spent on the smoker. MMMmmmm.

Seen this place many times and it was exactly as fellow Unilocaler Bryan previously stated riding the Mall Shuttle(can we review the mall shuttle LOL) and based on Bryan’s review I decided to check them out. I gauge most places that Ive never been to as would I go back again, and I will go back again and again and again. And its not because there are hot waitresses, even though the girl working was very nice lookin and very nice. I ordered the 3 bones combo with beans and two slices of good olé white bread and a cold soda. BBQ bonus points awarded here they have red pop AKA fanta strawberry for those not in the know. I also took Bryans recommendation and ordered the hot link side. The ribs were nice and juicy but, I really liked them they were cooked perfect and nice big meaty bones. I would have liked them with just a little more smoke flavor however. The beans were on point and with chunks of smoked meat in them. And always the rainbow bread represented the slice of white bread set as expected! Everything looked good here and based of the meal I just had I would have confidence ordering everything else off the menu. It could be that or the dude that sat one the bench next to me unwrapped his pork sandwich and the looks of it alone made me wish I ordered it. So I much I asked for a bite which was an awkward moment but you don’t know if you don’t try! So hey when riding the mall shuttle and you see all these people lining up outside this little brick outpost of BBQ goodness. Stop being scared get of the bus grab meal and enjoy, it will be worth it!

Have you ever ridden the 16th Street Mall Ride and seen a bunch of people in line around a little street vendor near Larimer? Its near Crepes and Crepes and the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory… That vendor is Boney’s Smokeouse BBQ. I’m certain I’m late to the party and can’t really call it a discovery, but I felt like I had unearthed the Hope Diamond when I bit into my sandwich. If you work downtown and don’t get a long lunch break, you’ll have to take an early lunch to get here and avoid the line… and get food. They have a very simple, «when we’re out of food, we’re closed» mentality. The fastest thing to go is the big turkey leg. And the line doesn’t move as fast as you might hope. This is not to discredit the great people working, you just need to understand that BBQ this good takes a little time and TLC. The pulled pork is juicy and tender, and has the obvious discoloration of a smoke ring. I added a side of sliced hot links; $ 2.50 and worth every penny. The combo comes with a can of soda(Grape, of course) and a side item. I had the beans, which are easily some of the best baked beans I’ve had since leaving the Midwest. My co-workers all got the potato salad. The combo prices are around $ 6.50 and a great value at that. You can even do just the sandwich or ribs, or even ½ portions of some items. Next time you play hookey and catch a day game, or are simply looking for a new place to grab lunch downtown, check it out. If you don’t like it… I’ll eat your leftovers. I work at 16th and Welton. EDIT: Oh, and they do take cards if you aren’t a cash carrying person.
