This place is pretty pretentious, it’s a real life caricature of the smug/yuppie subculture. The staff itself is friendly but the menu is outrageous. Don’t stop in here unless you think $ 7 for iced coffee is reasonable

Super cool joint. Very LA vibe. Fashion show playing on the projector, well crafted cocktails, nice beer and wine selection and small bites. The bartenders were a little overwhelmed when we first arrived but made some solid drinks so I cannot deduct a star based on our wait for drinks. Will definitely return when looking for something a little more chill and refined. 5 stars.

This Bar is great! Small and intimate — I would definitely bring a date here. My friends and I had gin and Lavender cocktails and then moved to wine and beer. The vibe is sleek with tons of plants and the food was simple but delicious. We also had a really great Swedish dessert that was great. Highly recommend and I would definitely return.

I still think Bar Max is great, but they have made changes that make it an unwelcoming place for me. They’ve shifted their business model away from coffee shop toward being a bar, they don’t offer free wifi any more, and they don’t want the business of people working on laptops. Some of the staff is kind of snotty about it. I used to love coming here to get work done, but I cannot recommend it for that anymore. If you want to get a drink or have a conversation with a friend, the food is good, and it is a clean and pleasant aesthetic. But if you’re looking for a hangout/work space with your lunch or coffee and tea, look elsewhere.

If you are looking for a place to have a snack while you work, note that Bar Max politely asks that computer users head downstairs, where there is a large, quiet«study lounge» with lots of couches, tables, and desks, and of course wifi. The food is tasty and they are open till 10pm.

Comfortable… friendly…limited food, but tasty… it’s all good. The owner has created a gem on Colfax.

My favorite bar in Denver for sure! Make sure you go downstairs. Hipster bar with good coffee, great wine and delicious food. Free WiFi.

What a delightfully quaint little spot. The service was attentive and the food was delicious. Try the bacon and burrata salad, yummy!

Such a great little find! The atmosphere is clean and inviting, the menu is exciting and delicious – I want to try everything on it. I love that I can come in for a latte and then later get a glass of wine. Basically most of my favorite things to go out to treat myself to in once place. The staff is so friendly and attentive, and great at answering menu questions and accommodating dietary restrictions if needed. It’s normally pretty chill and quiet too, so I’m able to meet friends there and not have to yell to hear each other but it’s still quiet and zen enough to be able to get some reading time in. Definitely a hidden gem on Colfax!

Bar Max is the coziest. It looks like a European coffee shop(they do have coffee), and they serve classic cocktails, feature a pretty great wine list, and have sandwiches, small plates, and gourmet desserts. The word«quaint» is overused, but Bar Max really is quaint in the best way possible. It’s quiet and little and has that hole-in-the-wall aura. The staff is knowledgable and warm; you can expect quality customer service that’s still casual and relaxed. I’ve had the tomato soup and the caprese salad here. Both were a perfect portion size and tasted fresh. I’ve also had some truffles… what’s better than super rich and velvety dark chocolate with a glass of red wine? Very few things. You’ll see all kinds of people of all ages enjoying this bar. It’s comfortable and welcoming; a great place to lounge and chat and eat, drink, and be merry.

I love everything about this place. Max is awesome and the ambience is perfect. He pays attention to all the details and above all, he knows how to treat his customers. The espresso is delicious and the food is wonderful. I still need to try the cocktails but I’m sure they are amazing like everything else. Thank you, Max!

I love this little place! The staff is always very friendly, and the service is great! I have been a few times for coffee or a quick bite. Food is not as good but coffee and tea is. Their cakes are amazing. I don’t like cake usually, but what I ate the other day was awesome. I had their carrot cake, and some other cake with almond. They were perfectly made, and delicious. Go to Bar Max! Really! :)

What an absolute treasure this little bar is. Not only is the space astetically pleasing with it’s wide open vibe with lots of natural light, but the plants and crystals that inhabit this bar give it very zen feel. I was more than pleased with the tomato soup that I ordered, and the goat cheese and walnut salad was pretty out of this world too. The portions are perfect, and since I come from SF I felt very comfortable paying what I did for my meal. Bar max is a lovely bar that not only makes you feel grounded by it ambiance, the wait staff is attentive, and more than accomodating if need be. I will happily pass this gem along to anyone that is visiting DEN and spacifically in the Colfax area.

An oases on Colfax. A chill vibe and atmosphere. Wonderful for lunch, coffee and drinks during the day. At night the place turns in to a hip cocktail spot. Much attention is given to the food and drink. Delicious. The service is outstanding.

I’ve always enjoyed Café Max and still love it. That said, be aware that they are now pretty hostile toward laptops on the weekends, relegating this shameful behavior to the periphery of the room or downstairs. I highly recommend«the classic»(grilled cheese and tomato soup) and the assortment of pastry. A nice selection of teas, including genmaicha, which is a personal favorite.

This is such a cute café right along a busy stretch of Colfax. The décor is minimalistic, organic and chic. The owners take your orders and serve you — talk about providing personal service! It’s easy to see why Café Max was voted one of the best new restaurants! Décor: very eclectic with used books, typewriters and succulents artfully scattered around the café. There’re 2 communal tables in addition to small tables along the walls. This is rather a cozy space for relaxing with a cup of coffee/tea. Menu/food: a small menu with all-day breakfast, coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages and shareable appetizers. Everything is very healthy and fresh which earned the dietitian’s stamp of approval! The freshly brewed matcha green tea was simply delectable! The fragrance of the tea leaves linger around your nose every time you take a sip. My friend had the Mediterranean Plate. It’s definitely a healthy portion for sharing between two people. Parking: metered street parking on Colfax or off street parking on side street, which are relatively easy to find. Overall, this is a welcoming café for a no-frills first date, catching up with old friends or simply enjoying a good book. Make sure to pop next door to Studio Colfax for some unique gifts by local artists!

Met a friend here for coffee/brunch on a drizzly Saturday mid-day. I’d seen positive Unilocal reviews and post-workout, I knew my regular go-to, Hooked, wouldn’t have much in the way of food selection. There isn’t any designated parking, just on the street and metered parking, if available, in front of the location. I’ve driven past this place before, but didn’t think much of it. However, upon entering, the location is warm and inviting. I met my friend here, who was already seated at a table. I sat down and prepared to take out my wallet and walk up to the counter to place my order. The cashier walked up to me, gave me a menu and took my order. Color me shocked and surprised. As others have mentioned, they do have a goat milk latte. I decided to skip that and had my regular latte. They also have lavender syrup, which I added to my latte. Pretty darn tasty! I ordered the French toast with a side of bacon and my friend ordered the fruit parfait, which was a rather large dish of Greek yogurt, granola, sliced Granny apples and dried cranberries. It looked delicious and my friend couldn’t quite finish it all. The French toast was one rather dense slice of bread that I was suspicious of, simply because I didn’t believe it would satisfy my hunger. I was wrong. It was very good and filling and the bacon was crisp, just the way I like it, without being burnt. Then we hung out for a couple of hours and our cashier/waitress came by several times to check on us. When we were ready to leave, she brought the check out and we paid. There were also quite a few of the regular café types hanging out, working on laptops. There appeared to be plenty of outlets and free wifi without a password was a bonus. This place was a treat and we both enjoyed it. I will definitely return.

This is one of my favorite places to get chai tea. The chai here is spicy and not too sweet, and it goes well with their desserts. When I went, the pie of the day was a berry flavored one, which was very yummy. The crust was flaky and buttery and the amount of filling was the perfect proportion to the crust. Make sure to ask for whip cream with the pie, because it definitely adds an extra creaminess to the pie. I really like this location and the atmosphere of the shop. It’s good for studying or just relaxing. They have books to read if you want and an outdoor area which is nice during the summer.

This past Friday someone told me about Café Max and I knew I needed to come check it out ASAP. This afternoon I popped in for a very late lunch. The space is über trendy, sleek and modern. The best part was the customer service. So fantastic and not snooty like so many coffee shops. The gentleman asked me if I was staying to eat and then led me to a table, brought a jar of water with a self filtering piece of charcoal at the bottom and a menu. I opted for the prosciutto, Brie and fig panini and a white tea blossom tea. I was served an enormous pot of tea first. Delicate, light and perfect for my allergy irritated throat. Next up was the panini. Salty ham with assertive Brie rounded out with sweet fig preserves and a side salad of mixed greens and kale. For a to go treat, I left with two bourbon chocolate truffles which were totally decadent. Café Max takes customer service to a whole new level and I am so happy this is five minutes from work!
