Carla Wright Gallery is a great space and is full of a variety of art; paintings, mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, prints… there are many different mediums and styles to experience. There is something for every price range too, from $ 20 to $ 20,000, you’ll probably be able to find something you like in your price range. The artists who show there often visit and Carla, a talented artist herself, is really friendly and makes you feel at home in her gallery. Parking can be a little tricky on first Fridays, but when you’re by the Sante Fe Art District I would recommend visiting this gallery.

Busy is the way Alex labeled this place, which I can understand: one of the reasons this gallery felt so busy was due to the already cramped space being filled up by a dude playing shitty guitar music. Live music is a nice touch… except when it blows. As a gallery however, this place was pretty cool: it had an old hardwood feel with old west style paintings, except with modern themes. I even saw a random Buddha or two just to throw me off. They also were serving some decent wine for free, had a nice upstairs, and also had some affordable stuff. Thus, once they have better taste in who they invite to play, I will up their star rating.

I couldn’t stop staring at the large picture of the lama eating on a twig with a bright red background. Basic picture, but I would love to have this chewing beast on my kitchen wall, it just made me laugh. The busy gallery had an array of artistic beauties including Indian Art on canvas, large print landscapes, large print eyeballs, and jewelry including turquoise jewelry. There was a popular patio party in the back, but I wasn’t sure if I was invited or not because I felt like people were blocking it off. I noticed women out there so it is very possible that it was one of those Las Vegas parties… you know what I mean… Dirty, hot, and strip poker… But I wouldn’t know, I wasn’t cool enough. * Star one for the lama ** Munch munch star two is for the lama on red *** Look but don’t buy star three is for the jewelry… Never buy Indian jewelry outside of New Mexico **** Where the Wild Things are star four is for the popular gallery seen… Made me feel cool to be there!
