I hate writing less than favorable reviews, but… I wanted something reasonably healthy, so I had the roasted chicken salad. It turned out to be full of roasted potatoes with very little chicken — perhaps 1⁄10th of a breast. Their choice of lettuce /greens was pretty disappointing. By way of comparison, the salads at Boston Market are much better. Unfortunately the waiter was pretty inept. It took about 5 minutes after the food was served to get our silverware. There was also a mild screw-up on the check with my iced tea being billed twice.

We have had very limited items on the menu, and have only eaten at the location a few times, but have gotten take out from here many many times. There aren’t a ton of things on the menu that we love, but we do love the huevos rancheros. It is a great way to start a morning, and a good way to eat off a hangover. The service that we have had has always been energetic and kind. I can’t speak to any of the other meals, but breakfast there is something we enjoy and will be having again.

Really poor experience. Went in here for lunch on a cloudy Saturday. They were not busy and now I know why. The hostess was pleasant and seated us quickly — this was the highlight. Our waitress had only 3 tables and seemed totally overwhelmed, thus we waited and waited for everything. We ordered and waited nearly 30 minutes for our food. My companion ordered the breakfast burrito that was supposed to come with hash browns — they did not arrive. I ordered the chicken club — what a sad sight — the world’s tiniest chicken breast with a paper thin slice of cheese and two tiny strips of bacon — no lettuce, no tomato on a half a loaf of french bread. I could have sworn the menu said it came with avocado, but I could have been wrong. Either way, not worth the money. We will not go back.

While serving on jury duty, I wandered over here in search of a good lunch. I ordered the chicken fried steak. How can you screw up chicken fried steak? This is how. Don’t make it in house. Get it pre made /frozen and serve it up with lifeless frozen vegis. Lame. Another old peoples place.

I’m a BIG fan of this restaurant! *This is one of the oldest restaurants in Denver for a reason. They have a very loyal customer following, which is why a lot of the patrons are older. I think that adds a lot to it’s charm! But it’s not just for people over 30. Younger peeps are discovering these«hidden jewels.» Especially while searching for good deals and service. This is comfort food as good as it gets! Like the open faced sirloin sandwich! OMGGOOD! I LUV their coleslaw! There are some items for the waist minded girl. Like their crab salad stuffed avocados and the salmon salad. Yum! But really… If you want to get a belly full of comfort food and feel satisfied… THIS is the place! It’s always really clean, the décor is warm and has a sweet vibe. There’s some ‘good juju’ here. There’s a large full bar(LCD to watch games) and plenty of room for big dinner parties in the dining area. Sometime I want to have a birthday party there. The back patio has a fountain garden and wonderful view of the sky scrapers downtown. It’s romantic at night and a good date spot that won’t empty your wallet. The soups are made from scratch, the fruit is always fresh, the service is CONSISTANTLYGREAT! The daily lunch special for only $ 6 is a swankin deal. Won’t break my piggy bank! How many places give you free warm bread baskets with a salad or pasta entrée anymore? Super cool! * One Star– Warm and inviting atmosphere and great patio! ** Two Stars– Friendly, accomidating, attentive service! *** Three Stars– Large menu selection! **** Four Stars– Desserts to die for! Seriously. ***** Five Stars– Tasty American food that’s like right out of my Grandma’s kitchen! *If you want to see why a restaurant has survived for decades in Denver, you should check this place out!

Denture’s Optional Okay, okay, it probably doesn’t deserve two stars, but it was not what I was expecting. Every time I drove by CDO12A I wanted to check it out. It was so alluring with the adorable patio lit by white christmas lights, I’m a sucker for white christmas lights. They have those lights all over the outside of this mysterious restaurant, it totally hooked me! Well, I finally went in and I was like«did we make the early bird special?» My friend complained about how mushy the veggies were and the waitress actually told us that most of their customers are really old and so most of their food is like that?! Gross. It wasn’t bad, just overpriced and might’ve been better at Denny’s. The indoor décor was on the same par. The furniture and decorations all said«help me, I need a makeover!» Needless to say, I’m only going back if my mom suddenly gets exponentially older and I need to take her out to denture friendly dinner.

We went here for a work lunch on Monday. We were seated right away as it was not very busy. The menu has lots of different options from large salads, steaks, sandwiches and Mexican. I opted for an Open Faced Steak Sandwich. While it was good, it wasn’t quite what I expected. Then with full bellies we all ordered dessert. I enjoyed the flour-less hazelnut tort which was really a layered cake. I’d go back here, but try other items on the menu. Prices ranged from $ 8 – 12 for lunch which is reasonable considering the portions.

My wife and I went to this restaurant about an hour before closing. She had tried the place, I had not. The location is convenient to where we live. I ordered a burger(medium well) and my wife ordered the french dip. The burger was so rare so I took 2 bites of it and was grossed out. My wife was content with her french dip said it was«okay». The waiter was not the friendliest just seemed to want to be off work. We could hear people carrying on from the kitchen. My wife’s previous experience was a carry out order. She ordered a burger fries and a coke. They didn’t take her name so she just showed up there and had to tell 3 people she had a carryout order. She had to just awkwardly sit at the bar while she waited. Then some girl from the kitchen came out and plopped a to-go box inside a «wal-mart» bag without saying a word. No soda. We have decided after giving this place 2 chances we will not be going back.

Coincidence, I was at the bar the same Saturday as Greg F and had the same meal and found the $ 5.00 price for Stella much less than the $ 6.50 only a few blocks away. And the Breakfast Burrito is far more delicious than many specialty houses. This restaurant has a comfortable atmosphere, excellent service, with food to match. I’ve been lunching here for over 12 years and never grow tired of the daily specials or the main menu.

I went there for dinner recently and can’t wait to go back. The atmosphere was casual and cozy, but still very nice(without being over the top). The service was perfect. We got the Crab dip appetizer, which was delicious. I got the Baked Cheese Pasta, and it was the best cheese and noodles I’ve ever had. It sounds simple and boring, but it truly wasn’t! And it was so filling that I took the leftovers home and got to enjoy it again the next day. Great place for a date or for catching up with a close friend.

OK, couldn’t handle the hour+ wait at Cuba Cuba and hadn’t been to the Cherokee for years so thought we’d give it a try. I’ve always kind of liked the vibe of the place, still feels pretty 70s but the staff is friendly and what a great patio for a burger and a beer. Honestly though the food is just OK at best and the prices at dinner have really escalated. Appetizers around $ 10, entrée salads $ 15, and entrees pushing $ 20 — so it’s not cheap. You can get burgers at night though and that would be my advice — perfectly acceptable but they certainly won’t change your life. The Mexican food might though — and not in a good way — really defines«gringo» style Mexican. So, keep it simple and you’ll be OK — wish we’d waited it out at Cuba Cuba though.

Wow. Lunch and dinner seem to be polar-opposite experiences here. Went in for dinner recently since i was already in downtown D for another event. Had the special of the day which was a ham platter. Disappointing. The ham tasted like a piece of breakfast Ham you could have received from Denny’s. The potatoes were mashed with pre-melted cheese covering them. The whole plate was covered in some kind of watered-down maple syrup-type substance. The ham was dismal but at least eadible. The potatoes I attempted and they could have been good if they weren’t covered in the syrup-like goo. This would normally knock a review down by 2 stars. Instead, we had a personable waiter who was prompt and attended to our needs as if he had ESP instead of waiting for us to flag him down for drink refills. Instead, I’ll ding the review down 1 star. Strictly stick to lunch here, or for dinner stick to the Burgers. I still like the burgers but I probably won’t be back for dinner. Summary: From the previous 4 * review, –2 *‘s for the dinner food, +1*‘s for the wait staff = A solid 3 *‘s.

This place is so 70’s it hurts. That’s why I love it! It reminds me of when I was really young and going to a grown up restaurant was just like this. A prominent bar with stiff drinks and then just plain food, nothing too foofy or gourmet. Anyway, I usually get the same thing there– the Salada del Rey. It’s so old school, with the iceberg lettuce and the cocktail shrimp, avocado(very exotic back in the 70’s) and the yummy raspberry vinaigrette. If you’re looking for modern or contemporary or hip, this ain’t it. And yeah, the prices are kind of interesting. But if you have a nostalgic jones, this is the place to come. Plus, I think it might be haunted by all the old newspaper alcoholics who came here in its heyday and drank their lunches!

I think Cherokee has a lovely atmosphere and awesome service. But, my suggestion is if you go to eat stay with the casual side of the menu — burgers, etc because I don’t think the quality of the entrees is worth the price you’re paying. With that said, the $ 6 split of Freixenet is definitely worth it. Sir Nicholas and I had dinner here the other evening and he order chicken fried steak while I had a raspberry vinaigrette chicken. My dish cost $ 17 and came with roasted potatoes(which were the best part of the food itself) and steamed veggies. The chicken was pounded super flat and completely drenched in a weird sauce that was the raspberry vinaigrette. Nick’s dish was served with the same veggies and mashed potatoes that were quite possibly the blandest potatoes that have ever crossed the threshold into my mouth. But, the table next to us all order burgers that came out looking and smelling quite delicious so we’ll try that next time. And I’ll likely go back because of our server who was so very awesome. He had perfect timing, great demeanor, and just really made our experience enjoyable enough to warrant a return visit.

I’ve had a strange curiosity that was originally sparked by watching some«Western”-type movies over the years: «What would it be like to sit in the back of a trailer, at a table across from the kitchen, drinking coffee and eating trailer food?» I know, I’m a little spaz-tas-tic sometimes. This, folks, is gourmet trailer food. You walk in wondering if everyone’s Native American, judging from the wall décor, and realize they’re not. Lots of old people. The waitresses aren’t really there to put on a fake smile and convince you of anything. In fact, they’ll roll their silverware and do their side work next to your table while talking about life stories you’d only find from the working class. I found it to be a little unique. The food was good, service friendly. And now my curiosity has been fulfilled. Never thought I’d want to go back into a trailer, but I think I just might, the next time I want a peaceful place to enjoy a different crowd and read a good book.

I’ve passed this joint a few times, but never made it in. today, I did. everything, from the décor, to the friendly faces, to the beautiful patio, to the home-cooked food with frozen veggies, reminds me of voyages I’ve taken on the secondary highways from Idaho to Iowa to New Mexico to Montana. the ol’ Mom and Pop place that everyone with a soul loves. the private lot keeps us safe from the metermaids. the room is inviting, and the patio is gorgeous. the service is friendly and satisfying. the food gives pleasure. my ladyfriend ordered a mojito, which was fantastic. well done. burgers, mexicali, sandwiches, great salads, and home-cooked goodness illustrate the menu. I’m very happy here; I will come back, and it’s on the roster for places to take the family when they visit this spring. great lunch and supper spot —

I passed a lovely afternoon on the patio drinking beers here with a friend this weekend — so I can’t comment on the food menu, although I will be back to try it out.(Happy hour is 3 – 6 p.m. with half off drinks, if I remember correctly! Get started early.) Their small patio is really comfy cozy, let the water fountain lull you into relaxation as you view the city landscape. We had really attentive service, and from the patio you can watch the kitchen staff bustle around preparing what looked like really tasty food.

Good food, good drinks, old-school kind of place with pictures of locally famous regulars on the walls. Friendly service. My mom liked their burgers, and she’s pretty picky. I like their Mexican food – quality ingredients and generous portions. Though not a young scenester kind of place like some just up the block, I think that the Cherokee definitely has better food than many other places in this musem/courthouse area. I like the tree sculpture out front, too.

This place is hidden behind the museum area and so does not seem to get the crowds that Dozens or Pint’s up the street seem to. That makes Cherokee a great place to sneak off to if you don’t want to wait for the weekend brunch crowd. This is not just a breakfast place(although I’ve only had breakfast food here, so this is not a complete review). They have a full menu and a full bar. The place is decorated like that place where your cousin in New Jersey got married, but the staff is very nice and the food is really quite good. I’m guessing the place must do better with the older crowd, but check it out some lazy Saturday morning. The mimosa’s are not fresh OJ like Dozens, but they make up for it with a heavy pour of champagne.
