I am a Highland community member, parent and an elementary school teacher. Edison not only fits the mold for most students but also has the most amazing staff and teachers. The teachers now are the best of the best and strive to meet the needs of the students and the community. Walking through the halls, you see students engaged with technology, hands-on science projects, students collaborating within groups, using Promethean boards and reading in literature groups. Students are creating their own websites to reflect their critical thinking and discussions about a particular piece of literature. I think we should look past«rumors» and get to the facts… the HGT program is not going away… and…hurray for those outstanding teachers!!! Lets support our schools instead of dreading on the negative.

I really wish I could continue to give Edison a rave review… but, it all went to hell last spring. There was a cleansing of anyone who raised an eyebrow at the new principal’s way of doing things… The really fantastic teachers are gone now. Rumor has it that the GT program is going by the wayside because it doesn’t promote equality. Kids left the school in droves. Edison was turning in to a pretty awesome little treasure in DPS… now it’s just another meh elementary school. I’m relieved we were done with it this year. Look at Moore for a really great elementary school!
