A relatively small room but if you get there the recommended 10 minutes early, you get a decent seat. The wait wasn’t long and there were videos playing, minus sound.

I am a bona fide space lover. No joke. Been in the market for the perfect book on space for about six months now. I was looking FORWARD to the planetarium. I almost went several times, but the cost was pretty prohibitive, considering I wasn’t interested in the science museum itself.($ 16 because you have to get museum admission, THEN add on the planetarium cost, $ 5 per show. Yow.) When we finally went, it was bittersweet. The show was VERY short(like 20 minutes) but amazing, with great graphics and information. The rest of the museum was OK– nothing special. Overall, it was a steep 20 minutes. Probably won’t go back, as much as I love space. Time to go to Kilgore and find a book instead.

Disclaimer: I have not been back here since I graduated high school in 1984. This place made my high school years very special. Before I even tried pot, going to see Laser Floyd was the highlight of my week, unwinding me like nothing else ever could. Hmmm…maybe I should check it out once more, with husband and my children, who are 19 and 21. Naaa… that would just be too weird.

Like many Planetariums, Gates is inherently great but in many ways Gates separates itself in quality and style. Gates Planetarium is huge. Most people who come here are children so you wont have to worry about seeing over a tall person, especially because you gaze above yourself at Gates, like many Planetariums. The stars will appear as if they are falling from the sky and you YOU are suspending amongst these sparkling friends. Traveling through space, exploring the planets… catch a pink Floyd laser show?
