Sadly, Gordo’s fell out of favor with the 44th Ave Grill management and closed on Feb. 28. The Rogers family has hopes of opening again in a new location soon. They still own the property at 6th and Sheridan and would like to demolish the building on that site and rebuild but the city of Lakewood is making that plan difficult. Lon Rogers, who ran Gordo’s since the 80s passed away last year and the business and decades old recipes are now handled by his widow(Gwen) and his son(Eric). I don’t know why this is still up. If you searched for Gordo’s they are #4 on the list as «44th Avenue Grill». They were on Colfax and near Wadsworth as a kid growing up, then moved to 6th and Sheridan. Somewhere along the line, the management of the 44th Avenue Grill acquired the rights to Gordo’s property and moved the food up north. The new restaurant is not quite as big as the old place and decorated a bit differently, but it still retains a lot of the feel of the old place, and, most importantly, the food. Gordo’s has been in Colorado since 1924, I believe, and everyone we have taken to Gordo’s has fallen in love with their food. The salsa tastes great, nothing like store bought. HANDSDOWN, they have the BEST chile rellenos in all of Colorado, THEBEST! I would recommend the chile rellenos sauce that Gordo’s makes, too. Amazing! Get a side of rice and beans, and you’re in heaven!!! Their spanish rice just has this great, unique taste that I have ALWAYS loved!

Don’t go to this address – the business has moved to 44th and Wadswoth and is INSIDE a sports bar on the northwestern corner of the intersection(just west of the Walgreens – hard to find unless you know exactly where to go).

Very poor dining experience, The chips were to hard and thick. The food taste like it had corn or corn meal in every bite of everything. I will not ever go back or suggest it to anyone. Needs alot of improvement.
