Grease Monkey

If I could, I would give Grease Monkey #38 TEN stars instead of five.
About a month ago, I got my oil changed at this shop. I was wary because I have heard, read and experienced that often an oil change at a franchise would result in a long, expensive list of «urgent problems» with my car. I’m currently unemployed and essentially flat broke, so the oil change was the extent of my car-​maintenance financial expenditures for a while. I even told the gentlemen who checked me in, to please not even LOOK at anything else in the engine since I won’t be able to fix it. He laughed and happily obliged.
The folks who work in this shop are unbelievably nice and the customer service is beyond top-​notch.
Yesterday I ran an errand not far from home, and after pulling up in front of my house, I noticed that my right front tire was flat, complete with some obnoxious orange thumb-​tack-​looking thing stuck in it. Grrrr.
I knew I had made several recent short trips on that tire, and I did not want to drive on the flat for a inch further than necessary. Grease Monkey #38 is about a block away, so I called the shop and asked a very nice gentleman named Don (or Donald) if they could possibly change my tire and put the spare on. He said he absolutely could, and to come on over, which I did. Don was SO nice, and explained that he’d put the doughnut spare on a rear tire and put a rear tire where the flat was, for safety purposes.
The tire was changed in no time, and he REFUSED TO ACCEPT MONEY. I told him I insisted on paying them, so Don grabbed his manager, Cotton (with whom I had dealt the month before with the oil change) who said he would not accept money.
It’s pretty rare to find any kind of service-​related business who provides this level of customer service. Grease Monkey #38 is a block away from home, but even if I move elsewhere, this shop has a customer for LIFE!
(Also they have popcorn, and dog cookies, whoop!)

Really fast for an oil change. I did call first though to make sure there wasn’t a wait. The employees were helpful and even put in my high beam light bulb that I had taken out previously.

What a great experience at this store today. Kellie, the Manager is a pleasure to visit. She knows what she’s doing and they did such a quick job replacing my battery, and at a price cheaper than the quotes I got from two other places. I didn’t expect them to vacuum the car, but they did!

So I was about to write a review, and read some previous reviews before starting, when I noticed that someone ran into the EXACT same scenario I did:
My girlfriend came home shortly after I got home from work and presented me with a surprise — she got my oil changed for me! What a great girlfriend — except that she went to Grease Monkey where they charge $ 52 for an oil change and up-​sell an air filter for an additional $ 30 to bring the total for an oil change up to $ 82!!!
I have always paid $ 20-​$ 30 for an oil change, so I laughed at seeing the extortionate amount my girlfriend was suckered into paying. At this same price point, Goodyear gives you their best quality oil AND a free tire rotation. I checked out the bill and saw that they want me to come in for another oil change after only 3,000 miles. No thanks.
I have informed her to never go to Grease Monkey again (at least for an oil change) and I won’t be going there either.

This Grease Monkey is awesome. The staff is extremely helpful and went above and beyond to help me figure out what services I need. They called my previous service center and went over records, printed my service recommendations from my dealer and went through my service manual with me to make sure I knew at what mileage I needed to get what done. I honestly have never had a better experience and I will most certainly be coming back!

So honest, patient and kind.
I went in to get my brakes checked and rather than charging me to change them, they were honest and told me they still had some life in them and that I could wait a while longer. Firestone tried to convince me to let them change them about 2 months ago– and it was such an expensive rate!
I also had trouble removing my brake light cover to change the light bulb, so I swung by the shop on my way home and within minutes in the frigid weather they helped me remove the cover and even changed the bulb, all at no charge.
My neighborhood go-​to, for sure!

Great customer service and fast! They tell you about other recommendations but don’t push you into it. I come here for all my oil changes, etc. and haven’t been disappointed!

Stopped by this location because the one on South Colorado Blvd was too crowded. I was greeted as soon as I arrived, and was invited to hang out in the waiting room. My total wait time was less than a half hour, which is always nice. The man that assisted me was kind, straight-​forward, and honest. As a woman, I understand that it’s not uncommon for maintenance shops to attempt to up-​sell a female client, but the technician I spoke with was friendly and allowed me some time to «fact check» his recommendations, which were correct. He even gave me a few discounts when I mentioned I had a limited amount of cash with me, which was great. And the best part? That darn «check maintenance» light, which has been shining for the past two months, FINALLY went off! I’ve been trying everything to get it fixed, and the technician’s recommendation did the trick. The only thing I didn’t care for was the waiting room– it was pretty bare. It had magazines and a TV, but hey, I’m looking for an oil change, not a massage. I’ll definitely be back!

Scam alert.
My girlfriend and I are casually relaxing tonight when she proudly informs me that she went to the Colorado Blvd Grease Monkey and received an oil change, plus air filter, for only $ 90.
So here I am, immediately after hearing this ‘news’, drafting a review.
My girlfriend tells me the folks at the Colorado Blvd location came out to the lobby where she was waiting and «showed her the completely filthy air filter.». Hahn, nice try Grease Monkey, not only did she have her air filter changed two months prior, but I used to work at Jiffy Lube before I went to law school.
Sadly, I was not with her, and she went for it, and they charged her $ 90.
Screw you, Grease Monkey.

This is the closest grease monkey to my new house so I decided to give it a try. They did oil changes on both of our vehicles and did a good job on both. During this visit they informed us that one of our belts was cracking and needed to be replaced (which it did).
We returned a few weeks later and they replaced the belt, but the new belt started squealing almost immediately after leaving. We brought the car back two days later and they replaced the belt free of charge and the problem went away.
I am giving them 5 stars for the quality and speed of there work AND the fact that they stand by their work.

What a joke. I went here instead of the dealership because it was close and I was short on time so I needed to get my oil changed over my lunch break. My truck is almost new with less than 15 000 miles on it, and the first thing the guy says when I pull up is about buying new windshield wipers and asks if I need a new air filter. I tried telling him that the truck is almost new and doesn’t need that stuff, and walked off to get food because I didn’t have time to argue with him about that stuff.
On my return there were several things. First of all, it was just a total rip off. $ 75 for a synthetic oil change is $ 25 more than even the dealership charges, but that’s what I get for going to a random place despite the good reviews on Unilocal.
Second, he once again goes off about how much I REALLY need my filter replaced. Look up the US Department of Energy study (2006), a dirty air filter DOES NOT impact gas mileage. If you replace your air filter at every oil change or just because it «looks dirty» you’re throwing your money away, 30−45k miles is more than sufficient.
Third, one of the major reasons for paying additional for synthetic (especially if you’re going to be paying $ 75 of an oil change) is that synthetic oils are good for 5000 – 7500 miles under normal driving conditions. Upon getting back in my car their little sticker indicated my «Next service» was due in 3000 miles. Again, if you are putting synthetic in your car and not red lining it around a racetrack, then you are absolutely throwing money down the drain by changing it every 3k miles. So not only are they charging an arm and a leg, they aren’t accurately representing what you’re paying additional money for. And if they try to say they are charging that much of synthetic that is only good for 3k then they have managed to purchase the absolute worst oil in the world.
Here’s a quote from the National Oil and Lube News online newsletter: «Many people… know when to have their oil changed but don’t pay that much attention to it,» «Take advantage of that by using a window sticker system [and] customers will be making their way back to you in a few short months.»

On May 22 I brought my 1999 Chevy Blazer in for a oil change. I had a coupon for a free a/​c check. I knew my a/​c was out of coolant but I did not know if it was leaking or just empty. The tech came to the waiting area and told me that in his opinion the coolant was empty. He said he put some coolant in and it was holding fine. I asked if he did a leak test and he told me it wasn’t necessary because the coolant was holding. He said «In my experience if the coolant has been holding this long then there is most likely no leak». I the asked what would happen if in 10 days or a week the coolant was gone again and he said «Don’t worry. If that happens we will take care of you». What he DIDN’T tell me was that he had only over week working there before the store changed owners and staff.
Sure enough I had problems from day 1. After a few hours driving the car my wife saw a lot of water and a small bit of a yellow/​green ish sweet smelling fluid leaking from beside the right front tire (under the car). I rushed back to the store to get it checked out. When I got there I was actually LAUGHED at!!! I was told that it was condensation run off and it happens to all cars. Somewhat mollified and embarrassed I went home. Exactly 8 days later the a/​c was completely non function. All it did was blow how air (much like the Employees). I took it back to the shop and the blow off began
I again went to the location a few days later and told my story to the on site manager. I was informed that the location was taken over by a new owner. I think they said that it had been a independent store and Grease Monkey took it over. I asked for help getting the problem resolved as I was told the day I first saw a problem and one of the «new» employes said «what can we do for you? Do you see any of those guys here now». Thea aged seemed eager to help but informed me that the higher up manager needed to be involved and that he wasn’t available. I was asked to leave my information and was told that I would be contacted.
IMMEDIATELY while I was still in the parking lot I called the corporate number listed on the we site. I talked someone there who told me that she would notify the regional manager and that he would call me back ASAP. He actually did call within 15 minutes. After explaining the situation with him he PROMISED
to take care of the situation. He told me to come back in «at my conceive» and I would be take care of. I’ve been in 3 TIMES since then. EACH TIME I GET RUN AROUND, A HOLLOW PROMISE, A BRUSHOFF and IM SHOWN THE DOOR. Each time I’m told that the store manager isn’t and that because of the takeover he is swamped with paperwork. After giving my contact info and being given a promise that I would be called. the next day and I GET NOTHING. I’ve written about this on Unilocal,Tom Martino and the BBB. If I had know there was a a/​c leak I WOULD HAVE NOT spend $ 130 to get the system charged. I just want a resolution that is fair. I’m a disabled veteran and I’m on a limited budget.

Went here last week due to their good reviews on Unilocal.Twas a smart move for me & of course, my automobile ;). They recommended what was needed based on the mileage so they didn’t try to force me to get something else done. What I really liked is that, for the first time ever in the history of oil changes I’ve had, they actually SHOWED me the air filter & recommended I get 1. Of course, I did. It was quick service. Even enjoyed their free popcorn, too. I’d like to say they were sweet guys as well as great mechanic’s ’cause they left 2 pink carnations in the car. :) Aaww… who knew that flowers & oil changes go good together? Even if I don’t get them the 2^nd time around, this will remain to be «My Oil Changing Station.» (That is, as long as I live in Colorado.) :)

Free popcorn, fast service, great prices, honesty. I highly recommend them!

I go here regularly for oil changes, and scheduled mainenance. The staff is well trained, They recommend what they think might be needed, and don’t hard sell. What more could I want in basic vehicle maintenace? I think they do a very good job.
