Great Plains Moving and Storage

We contracted with Great Plains Moving and Storage who has apparently just merged with Compass Moving and Storage, via Allied, for our move from Colorado to Florida. Everything has been an exceptional experience with these Allied affiliated companies from start to finish. Our Sales and Inventory Rep was professional and courteous, and patiently eased all of our questions and concerns, as we had terrible experiences with other movers in the past. Our Move Coordinator was great as well and even called us on the day of our move when she was very ill, to ensure everything was going well. Our driver was exceptionally personable, knowledgable, hardworking, helpful and an absolute pleasure to work with. Truly our driver made the experience better than we ever could have hoped for. Movers were polite, hardworking and fast. We received all of our personal items on schedule, intact, without a single scratch, crack or even a tiny rub/​wear mark.

I would choose Allied/​Compass/​Great Plains again in a heart beat!

On time, called to let me know they were on the way, professional, respectful, knowledgable and informative. And quick! Really appreciated the ease of everything.

I solicited 4 bids from Denver based moving agents to move us from Colorado to Virginia. I was unaware that Allied and N. American have partnered. I’ve used Allied in the past very successfully but have had problems with N. American. So I was surprised to find the estimator was from Great Plains, not the Allied agency I called. But he impressed me, and was among the lowest bidders. Our move was 13,000 pounds of household goods and some farm equipment.
Our driver was very good. And he hired excellent help on the origin side of the move.
It turned out that his home was close to our new destination and he hired his extended family to unload us in Virginia. They too were excellent. They went out of their way to be helpful and careful.
Although we had 300 cartons of HHG we were one of three families moved on that moving trailer. Some of our stuff got intermixed with another part of the load. But the driver found most of it when we noticed that we had a table with no base. (The base had been taken off. It was among things that had shifted wrongly into another part of the van.)
It turned out we did lose one carton. And our refrigerator broke (needed $ 300 in repairs.) The van lines (N. American) got snarky with our claim. Said «You signed that you’d rec’d all the cartons. We don’t owe you for anything „missing.“ And sometimes refrigerators don’t take a move well. That’s not our responsibility.»
So – the Denver agency and the driver did good. The van lines? Hell no. They had a choice of being a hero or a villain. They couldn’t resist the temptation to avoid paying out our $ 200 claim after an $ 8,500 move. I’ll never use a N. American agent again.
Their «support» at the van lines level sucks. That’s not Great Plains fault but
come ‘on — I believe the agency/​van lines continuum should provide seamless
concern for the customer. Too bad the van lines doesn’t feel that way too.

I had been reading horror stories about long distance movers so I took a chance with these guys and the experience was so good that I wish I could give more stars. They moved me out of my storage unit in Denver and moved all my things to Texas. Not one item was even so much as chipped. Long distance movers always give a 2 week window to get your things to its final destination. I only went a day and half without my furniture. They got everything moved in within an hour — couldn’t have gone better. The driver kept in touch with me during the trip and he even had to move my stuff into a smaller truck when he got to Texas because my apartment complex couldn’t accommodate his big rig. There was no extra charge for this. I highly recommend!

Great Plains was on the receiving end of our cross country move with Allied. We didn’t choose them, they were assigned to us by Allied but I have to say, if we had a choice, we definitely WOULD have chosen them. Mark and Jeremy (our movers) were professional, friendly, personable and most of all careful with our items. After all the horror stories we’ve heard about moving, we were very nervous about this move. But it couldn’t have gone better. Thanks, Great Plains!
