I consider myself a bit of a taco critic and a total gringo. With that said I’ve been eating at La Abeja at least once a month for the past 4 years and I absolutely love it. I’m usually disappointed with tacos anywhere else since La Abeja has set the bar for me. The do’s and dont’s: do try carne asada tacos with red salsa! Try the enchiladas too. I usually get extra salsa to take home for morning eggs and tortillas :) If you are also a gringo, don’t complain about this being a hole in the wall on Colfax, the lack of décor or if you happen to be the only customer speaking english. This isn’t a suburban soccer mom’s interpretation on Mexican food(menudo :)), it is the real deal run by an abuelo and his family and their food is %&#!$!* fantastic. I feel privileged to be a guest at their business.

Like everyone else, I started with the smothered carne Asada burrito. The green chili has the right amount of spice, the carne Asada and the rice well seasoned and not overly salty. The portion was pretty generous too. The location and the décor were unpresumptuous. If you’re looking for an upscale restaurant this isn’t it. If you’re looking to let your hair down and have some good Mexican food at a hole in the wall joint, come here

This is not just your average place to stop in and grab some mediocre Mexican food. It may not look like much but La Abeja is phenomenal. When I went there was absolutely no wait and we got our food within minutes. The staff was super friendly and catered to every need we had. My boyfriend and I both ordered carne asada burritos based on the reviews from Unilocal and we were not disappointed. The green chili was amazing and the carne asada was some of the best I have ever had. We also had a few of the pastries on display in the front and they were amazing. I don’t have a sweet tooth but the mexican pastries had just the right amount of sugar not to mention they were only 90 cents each! Needless to say I will be returning very soon.

Love this place! It is one of those hole-in-the wall diamonds in the rough places. Five stars for how good the food is. I have had the flautas and their tortas. Can’t not order the chicken flautas now because they were so good. I have heard nothing but good things about the rest of the menu. The price is affordable as well, considering the location and how good it tastes. The review below that said $ 14 for a plate of tacos with no rice or beans must have been mistaken. Maybe they went to a different restaurant, because that is not the case here. Tacos are $ 1.90 a piece, so unless she got 7 tacos, I don’t see it.

Best green chili, carnitas, and salsa verde I’ve ever had. The carnitas tacos and smoothed green chili burritos made me second guess all the former tacos and burritos I thought I enjoyed. Friendly and warm staff.

This place is great when you’re looking for quality and affordability! They are always super nice. Their Mexican sweet breads are perfection and I get one Everytime! Chicken isn’t on their menu but they have it if you ask, I also love their breakfast burritos. And some of the best hot sauce around!

My daughter wanted menudo and after finding this online we decided to try it. The place is not in a very nice area, it is not fancy at all and i don’t think the heater was on as it was a bit chilly inside. But the menudo was excellent. It was spicy but not overwhelmingly spicy, super tasty. The horchata was also good, a bit sweet to my taste, but my daughter loved it. Overall the menudo was delicious, would recommend to anyone craving authentic Mexican menudo.

If you can make it through Colfax Ave without being assaulted, this place is totally worth it! the staff is awesome, and the food is delicious! :)

The food is seriously on point! Tortas are fat, the meat isn’t gristly, but this place doesn’t sell beer, & that is worth 1 star.

Simple place, delicious breakfast burrito! I got a potato and egg burrito smothered in salsa(comes topped with white cheese). And I loved it! Also tried a baked good — pink on outside kind of like a jelly roll, with cream on inside. Great!

We ate the menudo and it was the best we’ve found in Denver so far!

This is as good as Mexican Gets; Or as Tex-Mex, New-Mex, Wet-Mex gets. Positioned on a not so attractive block next to a shiver-inducing used mattress store, you would never know what lies within. It fronts as a bakery, and a sparse one one at that, but don’t be fooled. I must have walked past this door 100 times over my time in Denver. I can never get those 100 times back… Go in. Order a Horchata and anything smothered in the best chili verde you will every have. Make your life better.

We came here because of the 4 star rating but Im not sure where that comes from. Pretty disappointed. I got charged $ 14 for carne asada tacos. Tacos did not come with rice and beans and veggies the way a normal $ 14 plate would, AND the meat was very low quality, lots of fat/gristle, I barely ate my lunch :( My friend wanted vegetarian, we figured there would be a veggie taco or burrito option. The guy at the counter said oh yes, we have a great vegetarian burrito! And she asked if she could have it as tacos. She received a plate with two tacos that had rice, refried beans, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. It was fresh, but where were the grilled veggies?! My tummy and my wallet are both bummed.

This place is an incredible little gem! The service is always wonderful and the food is absolutely delicious. I usually get a carne asana smothered burrito, which is great, but the street tacos and huevos rancheros are also very good. Don’t let the appearance of this place fool you(it’s a hole in the wall for sure), definitely check this place out if you get a chance.

Ordered three different street tacos. Two were awesome, but the pork was average. Green sauce was very good and all the toppings were fresh. Not bad for a hole in the wall place and surprised at how clean it was. I would go back.

An authentic mexican place in Denver. Food was comparable to places in California which is a good thing. I had four tacos and a small horchata. Total was 12 plus change. I would go back which means that it is good. I wish they were open later so that I could go for dinner but that’s okay. They open early because it’s also a bakery and they have pan dulces. The service was good too. U order in the front and then sit down and they will bring food to u. It’s not a fancy restaurant so don’t expect waiter service and table cloths. It’s about the food and that’s the most important thing in my book. I recommend this place if u want authentic no frills mexican food. The horchata was indeed tasty and liked the Al pastor the best. I had two Al pastor and one carne asada and one carnitas taco.

I love this place! The guy behind the counter when I walked in with super nice and very inviting. I ordered the Rancheros and the green chili was so delicious and spicy. I also had a shredded beef taco that was very yummy. A bottled Coca-Cola to round out the meal. Thanks guys keep rocking that green chili:)

For years now I’ve been looking for Denver’s best breakfast burrito. It’s been a rather frustrating quest. For such a great food city, especially one with a strong Latin influence, I’m surprised worthy contenders aren’t pouring out of the woodwork. In any event, my quest has been successfully completed now that I’ve found Abeja. Other reviewers aren’t kidding when they say this place is legit. There’s a large display case for pastries, a counter(complete with a select variety of toiletries I assume are for sale) and a kitchen. I ordered 2 chorizo burritos smothered and let me tell you, it’s well worth the extra dollar for the smothering! I thought it was pretty spicy, my husband the pepper king said it had«some» heat. We both agreed the burritos were excellent!

My new favorite Mexican food place! This place is legit. I’ve had my fair share of «Mexican» and«tex-mex» in Denver and they’ve all fallen short, but not this place. If you’ve ever had real mex food you’ll be in the know. The menudo reminds me of my mom’s/home and the bolillo was to die for. My hubs had the 4 taco plate, another great choice that was more than enough. Only downside: they didn’t have horchata ready when we arrived :(

This has been on my «to try» list for a while, and now I can finally check it off the list! Stopped in for a late lunch, so the place was pretty quiet. The lady at the counter was very sweet and lovely. She kind of spoke«Spanglish» to us, and I found it absolutely charming. Ordered 3 tacos– langua, carne asada, and carnitas. Also shared a side of rice and beans with my friend– so glad I decided to ask for this last minute because the beans were to die for. Pleasantly delicious and to die for. Had the leftovers for breakfast this morning and they were fantastic, thank you very much! Tacos were delicious and in my humble opinion quite autentico. No fu fu fru fru tacos to be found here.
