I’ve eaten here a couple of times now and the food is what I look for in Mexican. Their presentation is excellent, they season the meat well and everything overall was solid. I loved their tacos the first time around but the Sopes were a very pleasant experience this time. Definitely worth heading to if you, like me, are purposefully searching for that next excellent Mexican meal!

Cyn brought me here one day for a late lunch. I was pretty excited to try it out. Once we arrived, we selected a table and our waitress brought out some salsas and menus. After perusing the menu for awhile, I decided to order sopes. I was not disappointed. Super delicious! I want more of them. I also tried some of Cyn’s huarache, which was also tasty. I’m sure I will come back for tacos at some point. But basically if I never had a taco, I’d be a-ok with those sopes.

Fast and delicious. From sitting down to my food arriving at the my table, I waited… maybe 3 minutes. The food that arrived was delicious. Flavorful and juicy tacos al pastor, and crispy(not crunchy) tacos tripas. Some of the best tacos Ive ever had. Definitely the best tacos tripas Ive had. Finally, the check arrived at a price that made me feel like I was stealing these tacos. Highly recommend.

I live for Mexican food. Stick a plate of mole in front of me and consider yourself my new best friend. Which leads me to Los Carboncitos. While we could have hung around the Source & had an overpriced plate of $ 4 per tacos, we chose the authentic route & headed to Los Carbs. This place has been bookmarked on my page for a year… a YEAR, but it was finally time to try it. As a taco fiend(I see you there, Doug), I HAD to go with 1 taco(a tripita) + a coctel de camaron(that’s a shrimp cocktail for all you non-bilinguals out there), while hubs got my favorite, Chicken Mole(that’s why we’re married… he feeds my glutinous tendencies). The taco was muy delicioso(delicious), and exactly what I was craving. The coctel on the other hand was lacking the spiciness that I crave, but nothing that a little Tapatio couldn’t solve. Fair warning — the onions are hovering down at the bottom so mix it up real good. The mole was a little gritty but still great. Hubs didn’t like that they shredded the chicken because it creates a soupy texture, but I don’t care — I gotta get my fix! The service was amazingly friendly & the salsas they bring out were pretty tasty. I only wish I lived closer…

So disappointed. I thought this was gonna be a great hole in the wall by all the great Unilocal reviews. It could not have been a greater disappointment. First off, I’m a first generation Mexican and I know great authentic Mexican food. I can make it and my mom, aunts, grandmothers etc are /were all amazing at cooking and rock authentic Mexican cuisine. This place was Terrible with a capital«T.» I book marked it due to the great review, one of my good friends(who is a Unilocal Elite extraordinaire) raves about this place, and because of the sopes on the menu. I recently became a huge fan of sopes after learning to make them in a cooking class. I asked our waitress for her recommendations and the three top dishes that are most popular here. I was excited as she stated the sopes were indeed one of the top 3 dishes. If the sopes were one of the top three dishes here, I don’t care to try the other top dishes. The sopes were so bland. I tried three different toppings for each — al pastor, steak with nopalitos, and chorizo and all three were flavorless and the pork and steak were on the tough side. What’s even more disappointing is that I took a friend who was visiting from out of town to this awful restaurant. He ordered the chicken flautas and a side of Mexican rice and beans. When they served us, and saw the unappealing presentation, I became really nervous about whether he’d enjoy his meal. I’ve never seen such a sad plate of flautas. If I can make a better Mexican meal and my presentation is better,(and I consider myself to be an average cook in my family), it leads me to believe that the meal is going to be disappointing and it truly was. We were both really hungry, and usually when you’re really hungry, it can make what your eating taste even better. This was not the case. I didn’t even eat half my meal as I was so put off by the blandness and toughness of the meat on the sopes.

Decent mexican place! It’s not the kind of place where you go for the ambiance, but that’s not always what I’m looking for. As you can see from the pictures, they bring out 4 different salsas which were all flavorful and delicious. I love having different sauces to use with my dishes, so I really enjoyed that. The food was solid – they had some unique dishes on their menu that I hadn’t seen at many other mexican places before. We went on a weeknight and it was pretty empty, so the service was very prompt and friendly. I’ll be back!

I came here a little over a year ago, remembered loving the food, and then couldn’t remember where this place was so it sat forgotten for another visit. Until now. Came here on a Friday night with some friends to celebrate my sisters birthday. It was pretty cold out so we sat in the back by a heater… but there was still a breeze by the windows … so it was like we had hot/cold flashes during our meal… but I digress. Huaraches. I don’t really see these commonly anywhere, and this place is the first place I ever tried them. Tried them the first time(with steak) and then again this time … with steak and shrimp(had to add some variety LOL). They are soo good. They are like long grilled tortillas and have beans and cheese… and then your meat or chicken… or cactus… or chorizo… or… you pretty much name it. I definitely recommend it. Oh, one last thing, I don’t think they serve alcohol here, so if that’s a deal breaker for you… here is your heads up

Best Tacos around. Al Pastor Tacos are addictive! Homemade corn tortillas. Hard to find a combo of Great Tacos, Great Chips, and Great Salsas. Also other Great Tacos were Carnitas, Shrimp, and Costilla(Short Rib). Damn those Tacos were insane!

In all honesty, this place is 3.5 stars, but for the sake of their staff and food, rounded it up to 4. Came here after a few beers at a nearby brewery, practically starving after not eating a good lunch and waiting too long to get dinner ideas going. The place is a bit rundown-looking, but whatever; I’m not here for the ambiance and décor, I’m here for tasty food, and that’s what I found. The salsas are SPICY! Take your breath away spicy, but I liked them quite a bit. The entrée was filling, unique, and perfectly put together. The staff was polite, friendly, helpful, and prompt from start to finish. My only complain was that is was freezing cold inside! It felt as if the heat wasn’t on at all, and we kept our heavy winter coats on the entire time. It really felt like we were outdoors in late December. I’ll be back at some point though!

I just want to reiterate how great the meats are at this place. Everything has been so tasty. Great agua fresca too, mango was outstanding! They bring you a salsa caddy to your table, with 4 delicious choices. The salsas are all wonderful, and some very very spicy. We had a torta, a burrito and a couple tacos. The food was really great. I was not one bit disappointed. Anytime I am in this area, I will think about sneaking in for some treats, affordable and excellent. I believe the Torta was the Carboncitas special with chorizo, al pastor, and steak, this is a fantastic sandwich for 8 $. We have also tried most of the taco’s home run– yum.

Terrible customer service and mediocre food. 4 of us were out to eat, and 1 person got their food 20 minutes before the rest of us. 10 minutes later another plate was served, and 10 minutes later we received the last 2 orders. When we finally did get the food, it was burnt and thrown onto the plate. It took 15 minutes to get a refill on a soda, and when we asked about where the soda was, we were met with a defensive attitude saying it would be out soon. Really?! It took 35 minutes to pay the bill, and she mistakenly charged us double the amount we were supposed to pay. We never received an apology for the slow/terrible service, but were met with a defensive attitude like we should be grateful she was paying any attention to us at all. Our server never asked how the food was, forgot to bring a leftover box multiple times, and the other server was walking around on her cell phone the entire time. We were very disappointed in the atrocious service and are bummed that we wasted 2 hours and our business at this place.

This place used to be good before all the stupid hipster white people showed up! 98% of these reviewers on here wouldn’t know authentic Mexican if it hit them in the pie hole. Last time I went the food was terrible, the chips were stale and store bought. The salsas were old and and also terrible. I doubt I’ll ever come back. You know a place has gone to shit if there is more white people than Mexican eating the food.

I work nearby and thoroughly enjoy coming to this restaurant for lunch. The atmosphere isn’t too blank and the room is never packed. Friendly staff every time that are quick to service with chips, salsa, and drink while you wait for your food. While I mainly stick to their tacos, everything on their menu is typically on par with delicious. The lemonade tasted not at all home made, but rather dispensed from a fountain. It’s fair to say I was mildly disappointed by the lack of an authentic lemon drink. Normally I would take more than one star from the review because of this, but the food and service is far too great.

My new favorite hole-in-the-wall place to grab delicious food. The first time I came here on a taco tour, hosted and arranged by the taco connisseur Doug Y. Los Carbs(haha. yes. LOTSOFCARBS) was stop #3 and made me very glad I had showed restraint at stops #1 and #2. A little nicer than some of the other stops, we were seated at tables with menus here. The waitress will bring out a carousel of four HOTASHELL salsas, plus one mild cup… and a basket of hot, salted, greasy, and crisp tortilla chips. BECAREFUL and do not dip your entire chip into any of the CAROUSELOFHELLISHLYHOT salsas. Even if you think you can eat spicy, do a taste test before diving in. All of them are delicious, but they could burn your taste buds right off. Then, you’re faced with the difficult decision of what to eat. During the taco tour, I ate… tacos(duh). The carnitas here are tender crispy and flavorful. I had mine plain(no cheese) with onions only. I dabbed on a bit of salsa and I was in heaven. The second time I came, I had more tacos(this time, carnitas, bistec, and al pastor… with the carnitas still being the favorite), with the griddled cheese. Mmmmm. I was in heaven. The third time, I made myself order something that wasn’t a taco. My friend ordered the sopes, which she devoured. I ordered the huerache, which is a giant oblong griddled tortilla, topped with refried beans, queso fresco, onions, and … carnitas. I was full after eating about 2⁄3 of it, but enjoyed the last bite just as much as the first(and yes, I finished it. I have no regrets). Plain taco is $ 1.50. Taco with cheese is $ 2. The heurache was $ 7. Seriously folks… please keep your expectations realistic when you’re paying so little for so much flavor. No shi-shi décor here, mmm k? I can’t wait to try other dishes… but I would expect that every other visit will be for tacos.

The tacos were DELICIOUS. My favorite part was the cheese — instead of just putting shredded cheese on the tacos, they sort of made it into a little pan seared cheese pancake(without batter). It made for an extra crunch texture to the taco while still giving the cheese flavor. I only tried one of the 4 table salsas, as I was told they were extremely hot, and the«mildest» one was too hot for me. Other people at the table were loving them, though. Atmosphere is a little bit cramped, but not bad.

Here’s the deal. I’m trying to be as objective as possible because the harsh reality is that I didn’t like this place because it’s too authentic. I know that sounds crazy, but as a Denver transplant who was born and raised in Texas when I want Mexican food I really want Tex-Mex. So it’s less about me not liking it and more about it not being what I wanted. I ordered chicken enchiladas which came with tomatillo sauce. Red sauce is not even an option here, verde or mole is what you get. The quality of ingredients are really good and the fresh queso blanco was delightful. However, because what I really wanted was Tex-Mex, I was super bummed when the rice, beans, and inexplicable pile of iceberg lettuce were missing from my plate. So even though the chicken was crispy and delicious and contrasted the soft corn tortillas perfectly, I was not satisfied. My husband ordered(I can’t remember the name) what was basically a hash-peppers, meat, cheese– that came with tortillas. Again, well prepared and delicious… But«Where are my beans and lard?!» I shouted silently to the heavens, but sadly no one responded. So he ate it sans beans. The service was fine, not great and not bad, and everyone was super friendly. So in conclusion, if you are craving authentic Mexican food then you should totally go here all the time. However, if you prefer Mexican food that has been exploited by white people and topped with cheddar cheese… Than you might leave a little disappointed.

Los carboncitos is a really great local mexican restaurant. All of the food is inexpensive, I’m talking $ 1.50 tacos, and extremely fresh. When you walk in you are greeted with a basket of chips and five different kinds of salsas. There are two green and three red/orange salsas. The green are relatively mild while the dark red and the Orange are spicy. We ordered the chicken verde enchiladas(the chicken was a little dry), 5 tacos, and an order of the churros. The tacos were definitely a steal, and utterly delicious. Out of the tacos we ordered chicken, steak, al pastor, carnitas, and the chorizo the best one was hands down the chorizo. The meat was tangy and flavorful and all around delicious. I highly recommend trying the chorizo, even if you aren’t a chorizo fan this will change your mind. Lastly, the churros were amazing. The ice cream that comes with the churros is to die for(and this is coming from someone who doesn’t like ice cream). If you are ever in the neighborhood I highly recommend coming and trying this restaurant!

Sometimes the urge for«authentic» overrides my personal taste in food and that happened with Los Carboncitos. The fact that it was packed at lunch gave me the idea that this must be really good food. I wasn’t familiar with a lot of the menu offerings so everything seemed over priced to me. The long wait after we ordered gave me time to notice that the place feels like it could use a good deep cleaning. Then the food came: my 3 little carboncitos were fantastic! Real charred steak and cheese plus they honored my special request for some shredded lettuce on top. Hubby had an enchilada/mole dish that he exclaimed over. Total cost was about $ 25 for those and a couple of sodas. Probably won’t go back since I’m not a fan of Mexican food generally, but we came away satisfied. Another place checked off the list of places to try.

Good news! The review stands. I’ve been going to Los Carboncitos for several years now and I have to say they still stand tall I my mind. The food is 100% solid. I love the tostadas de tinga and the chicken mole is dark, classic, and spicy. It’s the slow heat that builds and pours out of your soul. Your tastebuds will never know what happened. The portions are huge and you’ll definitely have leftovers. The service can be a tad slow at times, but it’s completely worth it. Try the mango juice out of the tap, it’s wonderful! Enjoy the salsas that come with the chips when you dine in. They’re HOT!
