Mad Beans & Wine Cafe

I’m not sure why I’m even giving it 2 stars. Maybe because the bartender was the nicest/​most coherent person there and saved our experience with some alcohol.
1. It’s confusing. All confusing, you’re not sure where to go when you walk in, where to order, where to pay. And no one helped us much. Just like ‘ok go’ and were like ‘where?‘
2. The guy taking our order must have been on his first day. He was more confused than I.
3. They were OUT of a SANDWICH? Wtf? Because they PRE MAKE their sandwiches. AND I had ordered it without avocado because I’m ALLERGIC but that seemed to think he could make that for me… Even though they are PRE MADE? Confusing? Yes.
So they made my sandwich anyway, That was cool… But it’s terrible
–cold, not enough bacon, pretty much just cold chicken. And it’s supposed to be a panini.
–it’s also supposed to be on sourdough bread but it seems much thicker and I don’t like it.
My boyfriends salad did not come out with steak on it like he asked And he said it was very dry with not enough dressing

The carpet is also dirty and they were out of forks.
There’s a chicken bone in my boyfriends salad and there is no manager on duty to report to.
So the ‘manager’ came over who’s like 22 but he was nice. Enough, or tried to be. Refunding our salad but still disappointed.

I needed a caffeine jolt after a long day of traveling (as did my phone), so stopped here and I don’t wanna leave! The coffee is great, plenty of seating and I’m dancing in my seat to the great music selections they’re playing! Will definitely be returning during this trip! :)

So here we are caught in downtown Denver in a rainstorm with hail. Fortunately a nice man at the Denver art museum gave us a tip to go to Mad Beans and Greens for a little respite from the storm.
It is a very cool spot with super great music and a nice counter person. And huge windows so you can watch the world go by. Or a thunderstorm with hail. :) good price and good iced latte!

This review is for the coffee only.
Given the location right next to Denver Art Museum, I was really disappointed with the coffee I had here. The brew seemed to have a weird, burnt taste to it — maybe thats the idea but I certainly didn’t enjoy it. The vanilla syrup in my vanilla latte over sweetened the drink so much that I felt slightly sick after a couple of sips and couldn’t finish it.
Not exactly what you want before a museum tour.

My husband and I were visiting Denver and stopped her after the Denver Art Museum for a quick drink. My husband had their peach black iced tea (unsweetened) then the hibiscus iced tea (also unsweeted). These were both very good iced tea’s.
They have two iced chai’s, one ‘regular’ and one spicy ginger. I had the spicy ginger and for someone who does not like over gingery things, this was per.fect. The ginger hit the back of your throat just right. My husband also drank ½ my tea as it was that good. The people were extremely nice and helpful. We definitely recommend this place. They also had a food area that we did not eat from, but everything that people were eating looked great.

Eh well the location is great. Though confused by the wine selection as they are a «wine bar» or what seems to be lack of knowledge.

Yeah I will wait to return for a bit. Bummer because its so close to home.

I love this location and want to try Mad Greens but I’m kinda bummed that they’re now serving Illy coffee here. I miss Novo. Also, I don’t know if it was just because they ran out but there were not any powdered spices available at the coffee condiment station either? The barista just said, «No, I don’t have any cinnamon.» and that was it. I need a little cinnamon when the flavor of the coffee isn’t doing it for me.

Really a nice place to stop for a break after a morning at he museum, rather a limited menu but for a coffee or tea with a salad, it’s okay.

It is a salad bar, coffee bar, wine bar… but at least in the evening the salad bar is closed so you get the chilled atmosphere of coffee/​wine. The place looks nice and they have good wine at happy hours.
Great location for wine and conversation after a day at the museum

Nice patio and free meter parking after 6pm, but unpredictable food availability and odd wine list for the atmosphere.
So, this place is kind of deli-​style, being attached to a sandwich/​salad shop and being a coffee bar in the morning. It feels like the kind of place where you roll in with your newspaper and post up in a chair with your coffee.
When it becomes a wine bar in the afternoon, the décor does not change, it just feels like drinking wine in a coffee shop. That is kind of a cool and unique experience, so you go with it. But, the wine list really doesn’t seem to fit this place. Honestly, I don’t think I’d drink a $ 100+ bottle of wine with friends in that coffee shop environment, if that makes sense. But, the $ 5 happy hour glasses (which runs 5−8pm) does feel more appropriate.
They have food, sometimes. It’s a wine bar, but they only sometimes have cheese plates. Sometimes they just have leftover pastries from the morning coffee bar. And, the attached Mad Greens is really only a lunch place, so no evening grub. It’s a little bizarre.
Overall, it’s a cool little place. And, if you are already in the area, it might be a good place to grab a HH glass of wine, but its definitely not a destination.

Everything is great about this place except the coffee. The excellent Novo coffee is no longer served here and the new coffee is awful. What were they thinking!

You might think I’m partial because my manfriend works here, but I pride myself on being without bias when it comes to coffee shops and reviews.
Mad Beans is wedged between the Wine Café and Mad Greens. When you walk into the location (which is across the plaza from the Art Museum), you can go right for salad and soup or to the left for some delicious coffee, pastries, wine, cheese, and — my favorite thing — games! Yes, there are about 20 copies of Scrabble, some Balderdash, and a variety of other games for your playing pleasure!
The coffee is Illy, and the baristas know how to make some delicious drinks. My personal favorite from this locale was a Caramel White Mocha (topped with some cute drizzled coffee art). It tasted beyond anything I’ve ever procured from Starbucks, without a doubt. There are gluten-​free granola bars and plenty of pastries, too.
The ambiance is to die for, with a pillar decorated with wine bottles set in cement, comfy lounge-​able chairs, plenty of light, and it’s quiet and cozy.
I can definitely recommend this as a different kind of coffee shop, and I made sure to suggest that the locale pick up some gluten-​free beer (go New Planet!) for the booze bar.

There is something so great about MAD Wine; sitting on the patio off of the DAM sculpture garden, watching the Colorado sunset bouncing off the titanium bow of Libeskind’s ship as the sky turns indigo blue, and enjoying a glass of wine. Bar Manager Anamaria Osborne is warm and welcoming and glad to pour your favorite or suggest hers. She makes a mean cheese plate! I always leave it to her and have never been anything but delighted. MADwine is the kind of place you can sit and work, draw, read or be with friends. Puts a few more of those moment of contentment into life. On my top 3 places I can always count on to enjoy myself.

Great place to pop into after a tour of the Denver Art Museum. Lots of salads, sandwiches and yummy beverages. Lovely outdoor area for whiling away an hour or two.

I went to an organized event at the wine bar and it was great. The appetizers and wine were wonderful. The staff (bartenders?) were very friendly and tolerated my wine ignorance quite well. This definitely seems like a nice place to have an event.

I don’t care about pre-​built or build-​your-​own or Daniel Libeskind-​inspired salads.
I like booze.
MAD Wine Bar, which shares the Denver Art Museum Residences building with Novo Coffee (review in the works) and MAD Greens, is great consolation for that lackluster Louvre exhibit to which you may have had to escort your Francophillic Amelie-​watching girlfriend.
Or your pretentiously artsy hipster boyfriend.
Can’t we all just down a $ 75 dollar bottle of Chateauneuf-​du-​Pape and quit pretending we really get Rothko?
Yeah, yeah, Rothko was Latvian and wasn’t featured in the Louvre exhibit but wouldn’t it be nice to criticize my art-​ignorance over a few slabs of Ossau-​Iraty cheese and a dryish Colorado Gevurtz?
DAM right it would.
My only gripe with this place is that it is dramatically under-​appreciated. Rarely is there staff because, you guessed it, rarely are there patrons. Often, one must walk to the other end of the «photoshopped veggies”-decorated space to solicit a MAD Greens worker to pour your poison. God help you if you have questions about the terroir.
Oddly, no joyous pirouetting girlfriends or tightpantsed boyfriends are ever present. The majority of my fellow imbibers are old folks on an ‘artful excursion’ and in need of their ‘house Chard,’ or randoms craving a 90 Shilling beer with their ‘Don Quixote Salad’ and ‘Inspired Panini.‘
Thursday nights, however, are a strange exception. The clientele sheds its grey and thinning locks for… dred locks! Open Mic Night!
Weird cats with guitars and strange people abound. A cute girl tends bar and seems to really want to talk about wine and art as opposed to the most recent Tom Petty album. Everyone claps and smokes cigarettes on the patio.
I clap and smoke as well, sadly not for the open-​mic-​nighters, but in honor of getting a buzz in blurred eyesight of van Bruggen & Oldenburg’s ‘Big Sweep’.
