After an awful experience at Cherry Creek Tailoring, I walked over to Mara’s Custom Tailors. It’s located on the second floor of the 288 building. I was welcomed by Katya who was very helpful and concise with her assessment of what she needed to do to my tuxedo. After 3 days, I returned and my tux looked amazing! Although a little pricey, it was totally worth the great work Katya put in. I will be back for future tailoring.

Mara’s(and Nick the owner) is great to work with and the work is excellent! We continue to use Mara’s in spite of a long drive from the mountains to Cherry Creek. One reason we are loyal is that Nick is a good/ethical craftsman who takes time to do the right thing for his customers. Recently I brought a couple of suits to Mara’s for alterations(I lost 30 pounds a couple of years ago). To Nick’s credit instead of performing very substantial(and expensive) alteration, he suggested that I would not be happy with the results. It is nice to work with people/shops that focus on the long-term relationship with their customers.

Reading this horrid review from 2009 requires an update. The owner/tailor at Mara’s now is a man named Nick. He became a tailor in Greece before immigrating here. He is truly talented. Not cheap but not as or more expensive than anyone else. I have had designer women’s suits competely tailored(a full size reduction) for $ 70.00.

Mara’s was recommended to me by a boutique clothing store downtown to alter my wedding dress in an emergency situation(very long story but my original dress was ruined by steaming and I had to buy one off the rack a week before the wedding). I called and said I would pay a rush charge to have the dress shortened and the bust taken in if they could do that, and they said they could. The woman that was in the store when I went in pinned up the dress, including the waist. I told her that the waist was too tight when she pinned it in and I didn’t want her to take it in at all, and to please ONLY touch the bust and the hem. When I went in for a second fitting, the dress was much tighter and I asked her if she took in the waist, and she told me she had to, then refused to take it out. We argued, and when the owner Nikolas came in, she told him that she didn’t take it in and she wouldn’t let it out, and he agreed with her and I was stuck 5 days before my wedding, thinking I had no options. I wish I had taken the dress and left and found somebody else to do the work, because the dress ended up being too tight that during dancing I almost blacked out from not being able to draw deep breaths, and I ended up changing out of my dress before the night was over. To top things off, the bustle that she had created ripped out immediately, so the dress had to be safety pinned up instead of properly bustled, which constantly came out throughout the early part of the evening, making it difficult to enjoy time with my guests. For those of you looking for alterations, especially for a once in a lifetime outfit such as a wedding dress, I STRONGLY urge you to look elsewhere. There are too many good tailors in Denver to risk having the same experience I did.
