I volunteered here with my co-workers cooking and serving breakfast one morning. I really didn’t know what to expect of a Ronald McDonald house as I was pretty unfamiliar with their mission. However, having now been there, I am more than impressed! Their main mission is to provide interim housing for families while their children are in a nearby hospital– 80% are families whose preemie babies are at St. Joseph’s or Children’s Hospital. Families are provided a room with two beds(allowed up to 4 people in a room), private bathroom and small living space. They also have access to communal living rooms, kitchen/dining area, computer room, and children’s play area. They request $ 20/day but if families are unable to pay, they don’t require it. About 13% of their funding comes from regional McDonald’s sales, and the rest comes from the public via fundraising, etc. Our office purchased food, cooked it and served for breakfast; this is one of many ways they encourage support via volunteers. This place was so welcoming as you walked in. It was exceptionally clean and well-maintained. It makes me so sad to hear they have such a long wait list that they turn away 4 – 5 families a day. They’re looking to expand from 31 rooms to 51 rooms, hoping to build in the parking lot adjacent to current building. They encourage people to stop by, and ask how they can help. They’re a public building, though very secure with locked doors, and welcome any assistance from the public from donations of household items or donation of your time. A very worthy cause!

I went here to make dinner for some of the guests a couple weeks ago and I was super impressed. Not only were the people working very nice and informative but this place is awesome! It is HUGE and each floor has a slightly different style. Everything inside is warm, inviting and looks beautiful. They really go out of their way to not only make sure families have somewhere to stay but that it is somewhere that they will feel at home and comfortable at.

I went to McDonald’s Ronald House while on a weekend walk for nonprofits in the downtown Denver metro area. The Ronald McDonald House is geared towards kids and their families who may be in need of medical attention and need ‘intermittent’ housing and services while their children are being treated at nearby hospitals. The place is huge and offers so many services, entertainment and such for the kids and families who are here. While the Ronald McDonald house implies that McDonald’s may play a large part in funding the place that isn’t necessarily so. Mc Donald’s does contribute but there are many other contributors that fund to keep the Ronald McDonald working in tip top condition. Definitely a wonderful place for a wonderful purpose!
