This was my first time here for a concert and it is a beautiful space with lovely acoustics. I have passed by the Newman Center for years and am glad that I finally had a chance to attend a concert. I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the house. The acoustics are fantastic and we have enjoyed two performances thus far here. During intermission, there’s a bar to purchase bottled water, wine and other spirits and some snacks. Be sure to check out the free parking in the garage. Getting there early for parking, as well as trying to leave through a narrow walkway is a bit annoying, but for this location, I can deal with it.

Rarely have I had such a negative experience with customer service! I had flowers arranged to be delivered to a recital performer in Hamilton Hall of the Newman Center. There was some confusion in the delivery process and the flowers ended up at the box office. When I called the box office to get it sorted out, not only were they unhelpful in resolving the problem, but they treated me like a pariah for bringing this burden upon them. They used unprofessional phrases like«we’re not a flower delivery service» and«our employees aren’t paid to deal with this.» Further, when I said I used to be a student at Lamont(musical school housed in the Newman Center facility) and had thought the box office would be willing to help with affairs relating to performers of the school, they claimed«we’re not affiliated with Lamont.» This was a big surprise since I know they employ many Lamont work-study students in the box office. Knowing this is how they treat the public, I will now go out of my way to discourage people from attending concerts there. If this is how they responded to a misplaced bouquet of flowers, I can’t imagine how they might respond to a real problem!

Went this week to see the supremely talented guitarists Tommy Emannuel and Martin Taylor. My first time at the Newman Center. Great seating/acoustics./ambiance…Mostly great. all ’round. Given the Newman’s location I can put up wth the crush getting in/out(getting in very early would help!) We didn’t so c’est la vie. My only real gripe would be the Men’s restrooms. One stall each? Hate to break it to you but sometimes guys gotta sit too. And it was a dog-pile trying to get in. The Ladies are sadly used to these sort of waits so maybe it’s fair that we suffer this indignaty as well. Also, you’d expect men at this kind of a venue(or any venue, but nobody here had quaffed a 12-pack) to respect the next person and use some aim rather than spraying all over creation. An indignity I trust the Ladies don’t deal with. Just saying guys…

The June Swaner Gates hall was a very intimate setting. I was here to see a comedian and my only issue was with the concessions. You would think a comedy show may warrant more than 1 drink stand and if only 1 drink stand, maybe have more than one bartender. We waited in the line that stretched the length of the lobby and after 10 mins and moving just a couple of feet, we threw in the towel and skipped pre-show cocktails.

Specifically. .. . June Swaner Gates Concert Hall. Saw a wonderful performance by «The Sound of the Rockies,» «Ingition!» and«MaxQ» here. There isn’t a bad seat in the house. The acoustics are wonderful and the general flow of foot traffic works well. Just prior to and following the performance the small lobby got a little crowded, but all elbows aside it was easy to linger and wait for the doors to open. Parking is close so even those challenged were able to get from car to door within just a few steps. It is a beautiful Concert Hall — the architecture and interior design feel far more grand than it actually is. It is a relatively intimate auditorium; but with the feel of a enormous regal one. Two suggestions: 1) Move the ticket windows closer to the front door. 2) Reconsider the location of the refreshment bar to another larger area. Is there one?

This is a great place to do a show/music– my parents love going– parking is easy and close– I do think it would be hard pressed to have a bad seat– my parents and I actually like the balcony seats. I just wish they would do more with the place– I know that adds wear and tear– but it seems to go dead in the summertime– yes I know there is that tradition in theater and universities. you would need to be carefull on the type of act– a rock concert with people standing on chairs jumping up and down– not so much. — A comedian, magic act, One of the cirque productions. The cowboy poetry/music gathering– would love to see a sesame street production a debate a actual summer stock theater production– like the old elitches theater-with well known guest actors. The other end of this would be parking– I think the parking garage is used when classes are going. I think it would be interesting if pbs filmed some of the shows. overall a great venue– although I have noticed the prices have started going up.

The Newman Center is not closed. Went there last night for a Brazilian guitar concert. Hmmmmm. Or if it is, I’m starring in my own version of The Sixth Sense: dead and not knowing it. Anyway, pretending that I’m still alive and the closure notice is just wrong, lemme tell ya, definitely hit on any chance to make it to the Newman Center for a performance. It’s like a small opera house. Lots of vertical, so lots of good looks at the stage. The only place you don’t wanna sit is in the last section at the top back. Too far away.
