Oui Salon & Spa

The salon itself is pleasant but nothing special. (are there many that really stand out?) Larry Clapham cuts my hair and has for years. He’s great and specializes in color, and thick/​curly hair. I give him 10 stars and the salon itself 3.

I have gone to Oui off and on since 2007. This is a booth rental salon, so I cannot speak to all of the stylists, as I always see Brenda Kelly. She is my go-​to stylist when I need a great short haircut and highlights. She is affordable, quick, and can squeeze you in at the last minute (which I tend to need often!) I’m super picky about my haircuts, and I always leave with a cut/​color I love… I highly recommend her!

It’s no wonder that I lived near DU for 4 years and never went to or heard about Oui. After driving by many, many times and receiving a gift certificate, I should have gotten a pedicure or something but I opted for a haircut. I thought that since I called and asked if anyone cut long hair and the response was an immediate referral to a woman «name-​witheld,» I would be dealing with someone who had a history in cutting long hair-​I was wrong. My experience was surely different than the other women (average age 40) who were friendly with their hairstylists and seemed rather pleased with themselves upon conclusion of their do’s. As soon as I asked her about my long hair, she replied that she «guesses some of [her] clients have long hair,» which was not what I wanted to hear and I proceeded to let her cut the most barbaric layers I have ever seen. She did, however, blow dry my hair into a well-​managed tease ball so that you couldn’t tell how terrible the layers were (I could) until I re-​washed it. It was not an experience I would like to repeat.
