Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drain Services

Initially called at 1030 PM for a semi emergency plumbing repair. A hard line running directly from my floor to the back of my bathtub faucet cracked. I needed it repaired ASAP because I was forced to shut the water off in my entire condominium building.
I was told by the dispatcher, the earliest a plumber could arrive was between the hours of 8 – 10 am. I thought that was strange given that Roto was advertised as a 24 hr plumber. Regardless, after calling the top 5 24hr plumbers in Denver, Roto was the only company to have answered their phone. So I scheduled with them.
I wait for 8 am, called Roto to confirm my appointment time, they tell me my window is now 8am — 12pm. I asked if they could expedite someone to my place and they said they would do their best. The plumber showed up at 10am.
He arrives, looks at my cracked pipe, and says he would have to go look for parts. I gave him the place to go for plumbing parts. I told him to go to DIY Plumbing Repair on Brighton Blvd. (I thought it odd he’d never heard of it). He quoted me $ 169 plus parts. I showed him the Unilocal coupon and he said he’d give me the additional $ 60 off. I thought that was nice.
Any way, he comes back fairly quick with the appropriate part. It then takes him 4 hours to install this pipe. The floor joint wouldn’t seal. The grommet which came with the replacement part was most likely slightly different then the original. It wasn’t until I suggested applying an additional seal below the grommet that the leaking stopped.
All said and done, I ended up paying $ 375. I felt like a bait and switch victim. However, I understand that plumbers get paid by the hour. Any way, because they didn’t even remotely honor they’re quote, I’ll never use them again.

Mike Kapraszewski was timely, professional, and very nice. He showed up in under 30 minutes, made quick work of my issue, and even left the space that flooded cleaner than when he showed up! I cannot thank him enough! He is by far one of the best technicians I have EVER had to deal with. Friendly, upbeat, and funny!

Service Tech Mike (#2027) was very helpful and quick. He was thorough and services looked good. He was diligent about not tracking dirt and mud through the house and wore bunny slippers and put down a tarp where work was performed. The only thing I would caution is the cost of the drain clearing was significantly higher than local area competitors: it was very expensive at $ 309 just to snake the drain in the kitchen. Good thing I had a $ 40 coupon, which put the cost at $ 269. I guess I bought it because RotoRooter came with good reviews on Unilocal and a 6-​month guarantee for cleared drains.

We just moved into our house and the sewer line backed up. Willie from Roto-​Rooter was here fast, walked around the house with us to point out some important landmarks (like the clean out) and then took care of the problem. The work was done quickly and well and we got some good advice on how to avoid the problem in the future. I have put Willie on my speed dial (just in case).

Well lets see, my appointment was set between 8 A.M. & 10 P.M. your staff was kind enough to call me and give me updates that you were running behind, that was the only thing Roto Rooter did right. Finally at 3: o’clock, 5 HOURS LATE, a nice fella showed up, and informed me it was a minimum charge of $ 485.00 for 1 hour to attempt to clean a drain spout that runs under ground. After one hour he COULD NOT clear the down spout and left, saying he THOUGHT the underground conduit was broken, but in fact he had no evidence that his OPINION was true. I’t would have been better if he charged me the $ 485.00 dollars and left, as to not further waste my time. I will make sure everyone I know, will know what POOR service Roto-​Rooter provided me, absolutely unbelievable. You think the fact that they were 5 hours late I should have been offered some sort of discount. Called this A.M. to speak to a Manager, spoke to a Manager, he informed me he would send me a $ 100.00 check, 5 MONTHS LATER no check. what horrible service.

High marks for our plumber– he was great. A couple dings against Roto-​Rooter as a business.:
3 – 4 hour window was frustrating as others have noted. Willie was our guy and was very helpful, explaining the situation and resolving it. Roto-​Rooter could do better by incorporating cleaning in with their fee, which is on the high-​end. To put it in perspective, the last time I had a plumber come for the same issue, the total was $ 150 and Roto-​rooter charged $ 399 for the same service). For that premium, I would like not to have had to clean up the toilet/​snake gunk from all over my bathroom.

Feel like they could have saved the trip and just given me a general quote on the phone. Once they showed up he looked under the sink and then said, $ 300 to snake the drain. No thanks. He was very nice but if that’s all you were going to do and want to charge $ 300. No thanks.

I had the pleasure of Willie Blue coming to my house and fixing my lines. He was extremely nice and very helpful. I will refer him to friends.

I would give lower than 1 star if possible. They only schedule in 3 – 4 hour windows. Do they really think their time is more valuable than the customer’s? They also will change the appointment time without warning which happened to me. After waiting a couple hours I called for an status update and they informed me it was rescheduled.

Jason was very friendly and professional. We were showing a house in a couple hours and he fixed our problem with time to spare, and even stayed quiet for the sleeping kiddos. Great response time and customer service.

To sum things up: explore other options if you need anything but an urgent clean out.
My story goes like this: our toilet started backing up late Saturday night, so Sunday morning I call roto-​rooter because I figure they are the only ones I can get to come clean it out on a Sunday. The guy who came out was very nice and spent 2 hours trying to get the toilet to drain without luck. Because he was unable to clear it, he did not charge me which was awesome and went a long way toward establishing trust. The next step was a scope and possible treatment with high pressure water to clear out the pipes. The first guy even charged me half price for the scope. Again, right on and righteous. For this or that reason, they couldn’t get the scope out there until Tuesday and that is when it all started going down hill. I couldn’t be around when the guy came out to do the scope (my spouse was here) but when I talked to the guy on the phone, he told me that he was sure the main sewer pipe was either broken or in discontinuity. He couldn’t really explain why, and he did not leave a recording of his scope which was odd to me. He only said that in his experience, we really didn’t have much choice but to dig up the pipe in our yard and replace a section. The price for this? $ 5000. To be fair, I never met the guy face to face and he sounded like an alright guy when I talked to him on the phone. He even took time to talk to me when he was at home. Up to this point, I felt like I had been treated fairly and had no reason to doubt what he said other than his explanations of things weren’t very clear, so I decided to go ahead.
The crew was here the next afternoon ready to dig a hole (a $ 5000 hole) when it started to rain and they decided to come back early the next morning. As they left, I decided to act on the nagging feeling I had that I should get a second opinion. I called a plumber that a friend recommended and he was there an hour later. He went over things with me and clearly explained everything. He said the guy from roto rooter is probably wrong, but even if he was right and the pipes are broken to pieces, he would do everything roto-​rooter was going to do for a fraction of the cost. You can guess the rest. The second guy was right, my pipes were pristine, just clogged and I got out of the deal for a fraction of what roto-​rooter had quoted me.
Here is my first gripe: either the guy from roto-​rooter truly believed that my pipes were broken under my yard or he just jumped to that in order to charge for a major repair. Like I said, he seemed like an alright guy, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he truly believed what he was telling me. If that is true, then at the very least his diagnostic skills are not as good as the second guy and I think I would avoid major repairs with these guys based on that alone. You just can’t jump to charging somebody $ 5000 unless you know for sure you are right, which he obviously couldn’t have.
That brings me to my second gripe: the second guy who came by had a cost structure for everything. He showed me what he charged for labor, for parts, etc. It was all very clear so that I knew what I was paying for. Roto-​rooter just quoted me one price for all the work without any details. They were willing to WAY overcharge for the same service without any explanation of how that cost was calculated and to me that is bad business.
Third gripe: roto rooter is a large business and the communication between the work crews was fairly poor. We had a total of four different trucks out here during our ordeal and one hand clearly didn’t know what the other was doing. They were ready to start digging in the wrong spot before my spouse stopped them.
The lesson learned? Buyer beware.

I had a hole in the pipe connected to the spigot on the back of my house. It took 3 trips by different Roto-​Rooter employees to finally get it fully functioning. First guy did not secure the pipe to anything so about half a foot of pipe would come out of the wall if you pulled on it and the spigot would just rotate around in a circle when you turned the handle. Also, a friend looked at how they installed the new pipe and said they used cheap materials and it was not a solution he would expect from a plumber — a plumber I paid $ 445 for. I requested someone come and at least attach the new pipe properly. The second guy didn’t have the right drill to attach it to my house (the only thing he was there to do) — that did not stop him from trying though — which then created a hole too big for the screw and scratched up the new handle. The third guy finally fixed things properly — including getting me a new handle. Would’ve been one star but the last guy at least did what I would’ve expected to see done in the first place.

On time, left the bathroom clean and neat, work is perfect and solved the problem. Very nice person to have in my home. Thank you for your expertise.

I’m happy to report that Roto-​Rooter ended up coming though and taking care of my plumbing issue and my concern! After posting my review, I was contacted by customer service and they recognized and addressed the problem on their end wanted the opportunity to fix it! We all have bad days and they went out of their way to make it right! I appreciate that!

They made it out quick, but when I called they wouldn’t tell me what the service charge was. She said they’d give me a quote before doing the work. OK… well it needed to be fixed, sooooo… Anyway, I left a check with my roommate since I had to work. The guy was prompt and I guess nice. But they charged me $ 274! To snake my toilet (because someone dropped something down it). Talk about sticker shock! The last guy that did it charged $ 99, used a longer snake (the roto-​rooter guy only had the shorter one), and showed me the camera of the clean pipe afterwards. I just couldn’t find his number, and figured it couldn’t be TOO much difference in price. I’ll look harder next time, NO MORE ROTO-​ROOTER for this girl.

Had a homeinspection and called Roto Rooter to put a camera in the sewer line. Mike came out on time and found a serious off set in my line. Negotiated with the sellers and they took money off to cover the sewer line repair. $ 3000! Thank you Roto-​Rooter and Mike.

This is the second time we have had Roto Rooter come out. Both times they were professinal, on time and gave me a courtesy call within the two hour window to say they were on the way. I appreciate and value professionalism.
The not so good is their pricing. I had a tub drain and sink drain snaked and a 6“piece of pipe replaced. The invoice came to 489.00! Crazy expensive if you ask me. The insulting part was the comment on the invoice saying we were given a 189.00 discount. I get a business needs to make money and cover all of their expenses but i don’t think i’ll be calling them again.

I have now had three experiences with this location of Roto-​Rooter and I can say I have had my expectations met and then some. The plumbers sent have been incredibly professional. My most recent call resulted in Bob Grifton helping me out with a clogged drain in my facilities room. He additionally confirmed and replaced the need for a new RPV (I believe a regulating pressure value — or that is a layman’s recollection of the exact name.). All I know is that if my pressure is not regulated, all of my appliances are at risk of failure. Roto-​Rooter is my go-​to plumber. Even previous plumber is not as available and on-​par with expense. Roto-​Rooter is a no-​brainer. Thank you for your assistance, Roto-​Rooter!

Although the service tech arrived after the time promised and after discovering he did not have the part needed, Mr. Bell went to Home Depot, bought the part and came back and installed it in a reasonable amount of time. He made sure everything was working correctly before leaving.
