Safeway

I absolutely hate this store. I just moved to Denver a few months back and within 2 blocks of this store which I thought would be convenient but it turned out to work the opposite. I will now drive out of my way not to go here. On multiple occasions when I needed help the employees were either rude, rude and ignorant, or just completely passive. The saddest part is it always seems to be the managers «helping». I wish this place would shut down and King Soopers would take over. On top of my main reasons not to go the variety and pricing is simply ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and if you need groceries stay clear of Safeway.

Gloria in the meats department needs to be fired. Period. I would never want to upend someone’s livelihood but I’ve worked in customer service for over a decade and the way she treated me just moments ago was absolutely appalling. I had been looking for the sliced meat that they did not have on the floor apparently for 15 minutes when I approach the deli counter and ask the woman numerous times, knowing she could hear me, simply where the deli meats were. So after she ignored me for a good two minutes I walked up to the nice young man who was working the self checkout registers. He told me that I should go to the deli and that she would help me. Instead, I walked up and saw her messing with some utensils near the dishwasher and I again ask, «excuse me mam, but you wouldn’t happen to know where I could get some packaged or sliced deli meat would you?» She, in an almost livid tone, giving me a look like I had done something terrible to her a second before, passionately said «I’m closed!» I then said to her that I just wanted to know where I could get meat because I have been looking for almost 20 minutes at this point because I needed to get home. so finally I said, «can you please listen to me? I really need help and I’m just trying to get home.’ That’s when she turned irate and said I’m closed I can’t help you!» So I asked her, what’s your name? She ignored me. I made sure she heard the second time and she answered in a very rude tone, it’s Gloria. At this point I return to the young man at the self checkout line and said to him that I needed to speak to a manager right away. The manager didn’t show up for 10 minutes and the young man told me that she had been fired twice before for similar things. Again, I’m not trying to get people fired, but if you’re going to base your company’s integrity on its employees and pride itself on its customer service, this sad woman who can’t seem to leave her private life or whatever at home is affecting her so negatively that she has to be terrible to others while at work, I’d rethink your strategy with this one. Oh, and maybe a manager being around would be nice.

This place is equivalent to a Randall’s in Texas. A little pricey but convenient if u live around the university and its within walking distance. Can’t beat that!!!

This store only has «all natural» products for the most part nothing organic. The staff could care less about their jobs. They are out of stock on their items most of the time. I’ve gone into this store to get yogurt before and they were completely out no joke. Their pre made food is horrible, and their store is dirty.

Very clean, and very large Safeway in a great neighborhood. Big selection of fresh pastas/​sides in the deli section, and friendly service!

Someone on here said this location is «habitually frustrating» and she is totally right.
Let’s talk about it:
1. Basic products are habitually out of stock
2. Products are moved around to odd locations in the «neighborhood» of dissimilar products making things very difficult to find
3. Refer to #1
4. I asked staff for an item and they had absolutely no idea what I was talking about… I was asking for «mulling spices to make mulled wine». They all looked at me like I was from outer-​space.
5. Empty top shelves are actually full but product is pushed so far behind that you have to be Inspector Gadget (go-​go-​Gadget arms) to reach things.
I’ve left my basket of items after trying to pull myself through the frustration a few times just to drive to the Fresh Market where the standards are much higher.

This is the closest store to home so I mostly go there for the convenience. The staff is friendly especially the check out staff and they really do try to be as helpful as possible. I also like that there is a Wells Fargo branch –open until 7pm– located right inside the store — a huge plus. They recently remodeled in the past year so sometimes items are hard to find now — particularly toiletries or medicine as the layout is confusing in those aisles. There are new baskets — nice and clean– which is also a plus.

Don’t try and get a burrito at the deli. I’m typing this as I’m waiting. Waited 10 minutes and finally just left. They say they serve breakfast, I wouldn’t know.

Habitually frustrating.
Safeway, your customers are regularly confused about where the line for the self-​check out lanes begin. And consequently customers inadvertently cut one another off. You can watch the frustration on customer’s faces, as a line of nine people waiting down aisle 12 are cut off my a two person line forming down aisle 11. Where does the line begin? Down aisle 12, or aisle 13? Does it feed north, or feed south? And why supply comment cards, if they are just to be ignored? I’ll drive to another grocery store to avoid the frustration.

Perfectly acceptable Safeway. I am here a lot. Buying stuff. It is a decent grocery store, slightly limited in selection, the meats are big factory style. The checkers are great. I usually can get what I need for a good price.

Not very happy with customer service here after calling the store for a small request and the guy was very unhelpful. We shop here often because it is in the neighborhood but I think I’m going to avoid coming here even more than I already do. Prices are also higher here anyway.

The best Safeway in America !! Produce is lovingly displayed, fresh and attractive. Meat is as well, and the selection is terrific. The pharmacy is tops, and Russ always takes time to answer my questions. Dairy is full with a perfect selection nondairy items. We love the bakery, breads and rolls. Try the wheat French bread. The deli is well staffed, friendly and fast, little or no waiting here. Ron and the other managers will always go out of their way to help out, answer questions, find an item whatever. And, the store is clean and well lit! A true asset to this neighbor hood !!!

They have a whole sub-​aisle of gluten free fare! I have yet to find another Denver Safeway that has such a great selection of gluten free goods — their gluten free shells and cheese is better than Kraft. Seriously. And their gluten free shortbread is seriously addictive!

Will not be back, ignorant staff stocking shelves are rude and uninterested in the people who are buying the products that keep them employed.
Whole foods is darn expensive, but their staff actually say hello, excuse me, can I help you … have a good day… and they don’t try to run you over.
Aisles are confusing, shouldn’t popcorn be on the chips aisle… why are the aisles seemingly 3 feet wide? Also… you never see a manager walking the aisles, interacting with customers…
I have given 3 safeways a chance in my neighborhood, but i’ll go anywhere but them from now on.

I am so disappointed in my nearby Safeway (S. Downing) since changes were made in the layout of the store recently. The aisles are now tight and it’s a struggle to get around, especially when they are busy. Even more than this, a large number of items that I routinely purchased in the past are no longer carried, and inventory is DOWN. Apparently these changes were made in order to accommodate a larger pharmacy and in-​store bank, neither of which I utilize. I now find myself shopping at other area stores, including Whole Foods, in order to get what I want. GIven the exorbitant prices there, this is a bummer.
It is also my regular experience that the folks in the deli are hugely busy with tasks other than serving customers waiting at the counter, and you can stand there quite a while hoping to catch their eye to receive service. At some level I feel badly for these folks, as they seem harried and overworked, but it’s also obnoxious to pointedly ignore a waiting customer.
Finally, I hope the employees see the writing on the wall, as this store is clearly transitioning hugely to self-​service, especially at check out. Increasingly I am seeing one or at most two lines with human checkers, and LONG, LONG lines at the self-​checkout kiosks. I am actively shopping for a new comprehensive grocery store that has true commitment to customer service. This Safeway is now as bad as the Albertson’s in my old neighborhood. King Soopers, I’m going to give you a whirl, even though you are much farther away…

I am so glad to live only a few blocks from this safeway. It’s in a prime location, is always clean and tidy, and the staff is great. They never get in your way with stocking items or carts of things, and if they do, they apologize. The service at the deli and meat counters are always quick and friendly, and the cashiers are super nice, talkative and have been more than willing to help with any questions or comments that come up.

I’ve always been a Safeway girl. In the UK, that was where my family shopped when they were still there. And, in California my mom and I always shopped at Vons which later became part of the Safeway family.
Like other Safeways, this Safeway is cleaner and better organized than King Soopers. And, like other Safeways, this Safeway has fresher produce and a better bakery section as well.
However, I tend to shop at King Soopers. Why? Because like all other Safeways in Colorado, this Safeway is ridiculously priced on all the basics. Even with a shoppers card.

In regards to grocery stores Safeway is a solid choice but the thing that will set apart from other grocery stores is the level of custoemr service. This store has a good meat department and the custoemr service is good and they will always try to accomodate if they do not have the specific things I want. The only problem is the staffing of the check out lines. There are enough checkers but usually not enough baggers so you might have to do it yourself.

Of the options nearby me, this is the best general supermarket for all the basic items I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on at Whole Foods. The aisles are big and well-​organized, the parking lot has lots of space for parking, and the vegetables, fruit, and meat are generally pretty decent. I do have some issues with the lack of Kosher or Passover options available though. It is definitely one of the least stocked stores for this in the whole Denver area. I was actually pretty insulted by the one teeny little display when there was about 4 rows of Easter stuff and this holiday has very specific food requirements. Also, the flower section here always seems to have dying flowers on display. I’ve not once seen a bunch that was healthy enough for purchase.

This Safeway is always clean and well organized. I usually only hit this one up on the the way to a back yard grill-​out. Prices can usually be beaten by King Soopers, but sometimes the convenience factor trumps saving a few shekels.
Traffic during rush hour can be a painful waste of time, so try using the entrance on Evans, not Downing.
