I went here because they had a good Groupon for sushi and a comedy night. You go down to the basement where they have lots of tables around a stage. The food was really good and pretty cheap for a sushi place. We got Monkey Brain(a fried avocado), a few rolls, soup and beer. It’s kind of a hit or miss with the comedians that are there(I have been once before). This time a lot of jokes were about divorce which I haven’t experienced… yet. Don’t tell my husband. Ok I’m not married. Also you should make a reservation in advanced and both times I got sat upfront. The show goes till around 10 – 10:30 and they want you there before the show starts at 8. I would recommend this place and recommend you look for the Groupon for it for a good deal.

They owe my friend money for working there but they won’t pay him. Additionally, they never asked him to fill out a W2 or an I9. Very sketchy place.

I usually stop in here for happy hour and most of their items are pleasantly presented and on point. The fish is always fresh and they find a way to make the appetizers a little more unique than most sushi restaurants. My favorite is the crispy rice cake with spicy tuna. They also have good deals for dinner with all their groupon and living social deals. They used to have a duck dish that was great, but it’s disappeared from their menu. On my most recent visit, I tried their salmon with quinoa and their pork ramen. The salmon was seared perfectly and they made quinoa taste as good as it can get. The ramen was not the best, though, as it was a little greasy and the pork wasn’t very tender.

I love this place for their sushi, normally we have the greatest experience however our server cori was horrible. We had no water, she had no personality, and asked us to leave so she could tab out. I will continue to go to sushi hai but never sit in her section again. They may want to consider a new server.

Went here the other night for dinner as I had purchased a Groupon for Sushi Hai. I enjoy trying new sushi places in Denver, so I was excited! I had made a reservation, so my boyfriend and I sat in the lower dining room at a table. Our server was very friendly and super quick to greet us, which already makes a dining experience that much more pleasurable. We started with some hot sake and then asked what beers were on tap. Our server recommended a delicious blood orange pale ale, which we were not disappointed with. We started out with the gyoza and some miso soup for an appetizer, both of which were great. The gyoza was perfect and the dipping sauce also good. For our sushi, we ordered 4 rolls. We selected the green hornet, #18, spider roll, and the raging monkey. My favorites turned out to be the green hornet and raging monkey, while the spider roll was a bit lacking in comparison to others I have had(only the end pieces had a good portion of soft shell crab). The green hornet was complex in taste, while the #18 had the potential to be really great but the large amount of cilantro threw off the rest of the flavors. I enjoyed the raging monkey, as I LOVE unagi and cream cheese. The menu definitely hosts some eclectic and fully-packed rolls. Lastly, as we had the Groupon, the bill was still pretty big(granted, we did have drinks and appetizers). But I often spend a similar price at other places when I have drinks, appetizers, and sushi, as well. without a Groupon. Either way, the service was great(thanks to our server– the man with the blonde-ish hair!) and the food was good. My rating was 4 stars for the somewhat high price tag and over-complex additions on some of the sushi rolls. I would come here again, maybe for happy hour or something.

Cute trendy place for lunch. Decent prices and the food is delicious. Not crowded at all for going at lunchtime.

Sushi Hai is a solid place to get sushi in the Highlands. It’s huge inside with two(nice) basement areas and a main level area. Service is pretty good– the only time I’ve had slow service here was buffered by an incredibly friendly and apologetic waiter who brought us an extra appetizer. Food is pretty good– nothing out of this world, but quality, tasty sushi. Also, not too bad to park at if you’re willing to take a short walk down some nearby beautiful, quiet streets with lovely homes. Close to a bunch of other spots including an ice cream spot perfect to walk down to and get something sweet after dinner!

Sushi Hai deserves better than their current 3 star rating. And I think I know why it’s under rated(more on that later). No, it’s not top-end. The atmosphere is a little more homey/neighborhood than sophisticated. But this is a solid 4 star sushi joint. Everything was fresh, and tasty. I do think they try to pack too many ingredients into many of their rolls, being a bit over-creative perhaps, instead of hitting the exact correct combination of simplicity and creativity. The not-quite-sophisticated sushi is commensurate with the less than sophisticated atmosphere, but everything was tasty regardless. And no, service wasn’t perfect, but it was certainly good enough that it didn’t detract from our experience. So why 3 stars? Well, if you read the negative reviews you might notice that about 2⁄3 of them are groupon people. Not to paint all groupon users with the same brush, but many of them seem to be the sort of people to want to get something for nothing, and they are easily dissatisfied, and complain about everything, especially prices. Sorry groupon folks! Again, not all groupon users are like this, but when the negative reviews are disproportionately grouponers I think that says more about the complainers than it does about the typical experience one would expect from a business based on its rating. It’s probably an indication that the average star rating might be distorted a bit. Advice to Sushi Hai management: your restaurant seems busy enough, you might want to rethink whether the lower margin you make off groupon guests is worth the downgrade in the reputation of your business.

The sashimi was incredible especially the Salmon. Parking was a little tough but that’s to be expected in the Highlands.

The private rooms here are so kawaii! I suggest you reserve one of these for your next birthday party, graduation, whatevz. The room’s setup makes the meal more comfy and less pretentious overall. As for the food, I enjoyed it. It’s not the best sushi I’ve ever had, but it does the job. For appetizers, I enjoy the gyoza and chile shrimp the most. For sushi, my faves are the firecracker roll, heart attack, crunchy roll, surf-n-turf roll, tamago nigiri, and monkey brain. I seriously wish they would add shrimp shumai to the menu. The downsides of this place is that service is really slow and sometimes they forget to bring everything that you ordered. Also, finding street parking in the Highlands is kaka.

Went to their Comedy Show for the first time Thursday night, 07÷09÷15. Had a table of 8 reserved & we were seated immediately in great seats in the corner where we had clear views to see the comedians. Sushi was ok, will have to return there a few more times & sample more to give a better review. Mr Romantic ordered their lobster pasta entrée(with truffle oil & ginger). Ummm yeah, not as tasty as one might have expected, given the description! The pasta was overcooked, their was barely any hint of truffle oil & the ginger sauce overpowered the dish. Guess their chef was pushed for time, because it didn’t look appetizing either! Just a bowl full of slick ginger tasting pasta with a clump of lobster(tail attached) tossed on top! Will not be ordering that dish again! Our server Ed was great & boy was he hopping that night! Thanks Ed! The comedians were cool, a few of them shone far brighter than the others, had wittier jokes & seemed to capture the audience throughout their entire performance. But considering you only pay $ 10 for 2 hours of live comedy, you really don’t have much to complain about! Their headliner was funny, a local even! However, he was celebrating his birthday that night & had a few too many Patron shots during his performance, which kinda showed towards the end when he had longer pauses between his material! His humor reminded me of Richard Pryor at times. Wouldn’t mind seeing him again, sans alcohol! They had a few really hilarious comedians, who I felt really clued in to the crowd & hope to see & hear more of them! Was a pretty cool night all in all! Will definitely return for their comedy nights with other mates in the future! Cost for the two of us that night came out to $ 91 + tip!(Had a groupon that saved us about $ 30! Hey don’t judge, gotta save ma $$$ somehow!)

Louis, the executive chef, is amazing. This is the best sushi I have had in forever. It’s pretty expensive, but there are a lot of groupons available so that you can check it out to see if it’s worth it to you. I was still trying to do whole 30 and they were very accommodating to me. It’s a nice atmosphere inside. It gets a little crowded in the basement so sitting upstairs was more comfortable for us. Reading other reviews I see that people have said the service was slow(that was not our experience) or that the waiters were not engaging(also not our experience). I think it’s worth a try, it’s become one of our favs.

Bought a $ 20 groupon here for lunch. I was kinda appalled when the food came and the bill came. 6 tiny pieces of shrimp– no rice. Three pieces of shrimp on rice and two pieces of tuna on rice for $ 40. Although it was good– I’ve had way better for way cheaper. So I guess you’re just paying for the atmosphere of the highlands. I really wish I would’ve taken a picture of their tiny portions. I’m still hungry but I wasn’t going to waste anymore money there. Our waitress was a little weird too. Abrupt and flakey. Not really helpful. Not many customers there but she seemed to hurried to take orders so she could go back to pacing back and forth in the tiny space

The sushi here is okay, it’s not the best sushi in Denver for the price. We tried he gyoza, which was pretty bland and greasy(even though the waitress claimed it was the best in town), the spicy garlic edamame, and several sushi rolls. We went relatively late on a Monday but the only people in the restaurant were using a groupon(that should say something). The service was extremely slow and the prices in my mind were over priced for the quality of sushi. We got a few regular rolls like California, spicy tuna, and a Philadelphia roll. We also went with the double down, the Las Vegas, and the #18. All of the rolls we had were good but ultimately just a little disappointing. There are definitely better places to get sushi in Denver.

Seriously –Wow! Last night my hubs and I met my old friend and her husband for dinner at 7pm… We were sat in the lower area… Our waiter was very pleasant in the face of my picky friend ! lol He help us order and the choices were too good! My husband and I had a great time !!! We were very satisfied and ate pretty much everything in front of us… I’ve been to sushi hai a lot over the years and some of the others times were just so so(4 stars)…I guess they are really stepping up their game because everything was on point — Waiter even had a brave face on when we presented the dreaded groupon… lol So yes very good –very friendly — good vibes — lovely dinner … We will come again!!! Thanks for the evening

A Groupon offer for a fairly respected sushi place? Sure, we’ll give it a try. A-OK is pretty spot on. You’re certainly paying for location and atmosphere, both of which are nice. Their gyoza is some of the best we’ve had, and would totally be worth a stop during happy hour. Given the Groupon, we decided to go all out and try their signature Hai Lobster Roll at $ 20. For that price, it was underwhelming. Either the butter sauce detracted from the flavor of the lobster instead of enhancing it(as expected), or the roll was bland and needed something with more of a boost. Either way, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t «OMGORDERMORE» — which it should be at $ 20. The rest of the normal rolls we ordered were fine. Nothing outstanding, but definitely solid and on par with other places. Service was efficient. Overall we probably won’t be back for a regular meal, but would give happy hour a try if we’re nearby.

This place was just okay. A couple years ago, I had a bad experience here and the worst service imaginable. This time, though, wasn’t that bad. The staff was much friendlier and the food was better. Since I came here for a birthday dinner with 20 people in attendance, I decided to skip on the sushi since I have an avocado allergy and didn’t want to take the chance with possible cross contamination. So instead I ordered gyoza, miso soup and beef short ribs. The short ribs were delicious and practically melted in my mouth. The soup was decent but the gyoza came out cold. Overall, not bad. I’d come back but not in any rush to do so.

This place is lacking in both service and food. We were seated quickly but it took awhile for waters & sake. The waiter never gave us our beers that we ordered. Never checked up on us which was his fault because we would have ordered a lot more sake(=bigger tip). We ordered the unagi nigiri, las vegas roll, surf and turf roll, and the firecracker roll. They were all small rolls and lacking in any kind of kick. It was all just bleh. None of the three stood out. The décor and layout of the restaurant is nice and pleasant to the eye. The food came out in a decent time considering how busy the sushi bar was.
