Don’t trust me – I’m an electronics noob. I know nothing. Which is why I’m rating this place so well. I’ve been into a few of these kind of places before, mostly in Seattle. I’ve been met with either serious judgement that I don’t know what to do with a breadboard, or staff that ignores entirely, leaving me to my own devices to wander around and poke at the 3-D printer. When we walked into The Concoctory, the person working there was heavily tattooed, including some amazing lightning bolt brows, had some metal in their face, and colored hair. I figured FORSURE that we’d get the cold shoulder, or some serious attitude, but they were awesome, welcoming, friendly, and didn’t seem to care that I had more interest in the oyster mushroom kit, color-your-own Postcard kit, and Geek’s Cookbook than I did the Raspberry Pi display. Things here are priced competitively and reasonably. They’re not here to rip you off, they’re here to encourage creativity and to spark imagination. Pretty much anything you need to make whatever you’re making, they offer, from LEDs to construction paper. There’s ample table space to sprawl and get into your project. They have soldering classes for newbies like me! And even gardening classes. This is an awesome DIY studio, with an emphasis on electronics. I will definitely be back to take a class, learn how to solder, and maybe even gain an interest in circuit boards. Rad.
