Just had the shrimp hot pot with the broth and was very impressed how authentic it tasted! I highly recommend this place if you are seeking spicy and/or authentic Sichuan food. I would also recommend this place if you are wanting Americanized Chinese food but it would be a shame since it has so much else to offer. One thing I will say is that the hot pot with the broth is served to you ready instead of the traditional grill on the table style. They do put the grill on the table for the dry hot pot(without broth). Nevertheless it’s still delicious.

Live in the neighborhood and wanted to try the new restaurant. We were VERY disappointed. The egg drop soup was very bland. Had only a slight chicken flavor and was very thin. The crab won tons were good though. Our 3 entrée dishes were mediocre at best. The ambiance of the restaurant is awful, it’s as if they really don’t care what type of dining experience their customers have. The tables are in such poor shape they wobble terribly. Looked around to see many of the tables have something taped to the legs to level them. Very unappetizing. Our bill was far more than I expected, especially for the quality of the food. I really hate to give a business a bad review because even a great restaurant can have a bad day, but this restaurant deserves it. With so many Chinese restaurants to choose from I suggest you pass on this one.

This place is disgusting– whatever spice they use makes your tongue feel weird! Would not recommend.

Went on a busy Saturday night. Great, quick service and really tasty food. Seems pretty authentic. Clean as well. We will return and recommend Yum Yum Spice to others :)

Food is good but the service is ok Drunken noodles, lo mein, orange chicken, sesame chicken are all good. First time there I ordered takeout. That experience was good. Second time there the customer service wasn’t great but the food was good. When I managed to get someone to come to my table I asked for boxes. The lady brought out one soup box for all my food and then she was gone again. If I have more then one dish almost untouched I need more then one box. I don’t want to throw in all my food together lol

This is a great place for hot pot! The service is always friendly and prompt and the food is delicious. However, if you’ve never had traditional hot pot before you’re bound to be confused. Do a little research before you come here so you don’t end up looking ignorant and you can actually enjoy the food.

If you haven’t had authentic Sichuan(Szechuan) style food, then the food here might startle you. From the peppercorns that numb your mouth to the family hotpot cuisine. If you have had this type of food before, you’re in for a treat. This is authentic Sichuan food that will make you miss SW China. I’ve been a couple times since they opened and it’s the real deal. Currently, they specialize in dry hotpot, which is essentially various meats stir-fried with vegetables and the infamous numbing Sichuan pepper. To order you choose the size, spicy level, and a protein. It will automatically come with potatoes, sprouts, and celery. You can order additional meats and vegetables for an extra cost(on the back of the menu). A small is good for 2 people I think. It used to come with rice but they started charging $ 1 per rice bowl. Rude. The workers here don’t speak English especially well, so be patient. It’s definitely a place to check out if you crave authentic Sichuan food. But if you don’t know what to expect beforehand, it can definitely be unexpected. This isn’t Panda Express. One star off because they charge for rice and it can be a task to catch the server’s attention sometimes.

Normal white people(especially frat boys) here don’t understand authentic Sichuan food and they think orange/sesame chicken are the ultimate journey to Chinese food. Well, the key to authentic Sichuan dishes is the magic peppercorns(flower pepper in Chinese) which may or may not make your ice water taste like lemonade(depending on the person) :)) How come it does not occur to those people who have absolutely zero knowledge about a new type of food that they should ask questions and learn(or even look around too see what other people are having)? And BTW, if you think $ 50 bill for four people is expensive there is a Wendy’s down the street.

Warning: be prepared to have your tongue go numb. Our group of three came in and ordered a medium beef hot pot-type dish to share. We came in hopeful and we left very confused, unhappy, and unable to feel our mouths. As our tongues were going numb, we had to Google what was happening to us. We found that dishes like these probably contain Sichuan pepper, which makes it authentic, but also very unpleasant if you’re not used to it. Apparently, the pepper causes a «strange, tingling, buzzing, numbing sensation that is something like the effect of carbonated drinks or of a mild electric current,» which was extremely accurate. We couldn’t even finish the dish even though we were still hungry. We couldn’t get the taste out of our mouth and drinking water made it more sour and more tingly than before. Finally, we went to pay and found out that they charged us an extra $ 3 for rice even though we didn’t order it and they had just brought it out along with the dish. Will not be going here again. This was the single strangest experience I’ve ever had. (P.s. If you are also reading Mark M’s review, the restaurant did, in fact, serve water. The lemon taste that messes with taste buds is the Sichuan pepper itself)

Fool me once. shame on you. Fool me twice. Nope, you won’t fool me twice this on this one. Where do I start?.. We saw this restaurant had just opened up right by the University of Denver and it looked somewhat authentic so we decided to give it a go. The ambiance is nonexistent. The place is filled with posters of delicious looking food that is nowhere to be found on their menu. The menu. good lord, could it be anymore confusing? You truly do not know what you are going to get until it is right in front of you. We thought we had ordered 4 different dishes, two meat dishes and two veggies dishes. Turns out they threw all of the items into a stir-fry and served it to us. Our meats were mutton and spare-ribs. Both were of the lowest quality. We could hardly find the mutton in our dish and the spare-ribs were very tiny, tough, and mostly bone. The dish had so much cheap filler in it, bean sprouts and celery. yay! I think it was supposed to have potatoes and cauliflower but they were no where to be found(more cheap filler anyways). Everything was extremely cheap quality. Service? Not great. The food(which turned out to be one dish, mind you) took nearly half an hour. The rice served to our party of four came oddly as three brown rices and one white rice. We couldn’t figure it out. We asked for water and they served us some sort of lemon drink that did odd things to our taste buds. Here’s the kicker. We ask for our bill. $ 50.00! Fifty damn dollars for what couldn’t have cost them more than $ 5.00 in ingredients, and that is being generous. The menu was confusing. But I deduced after receiving the bill that what we ordered was a «large» dish($ 30.00) with an additional meat($ 9.99) and two vegetables($ 2 – 3 a piece). My party of four was still very hungry after we had polished off our food, not very satisfied either. We went and asked the lady behind the bar why we received such a small amount of food for $ 50 and she said«Large dish is for two people». Sure, that may have been enough food for two people but given the quality and amount of food it still wasn’t worth it. I can’t think of any place where a restaurant could be successful at this price point… maybe Boulder? Absolutely terrible. I will never come here again and I fully expect it to go out of business soon. Don’t waste your time, money, or hunger on this joke of an establishment. Least pleasant dining experience I’ve had in Denver. TL;DR. This place is a complete rip-off. I was flabbergasted, how could so little an amount of food, with terrible quality be $ 50? Ambiance is terrible. Food is meh. I left hungry. Not worth it. Don’t ever eat here. I’ll stick to honest Chinese restaurants on Federal. I recommend Hong Kong BBQ, Star Kitchen, and Super Star Asian Cuisine. Edit: Yes, $ 50 is quite a lot for one dish. Its nice to know there is another menu. if only they had provided us with it. Also, I enjoy the taste of sichuan and my tongue did not go numb. They served us some sort of lemon juice-drink. I have no idea what it was.
