We’ve been coming to the second half for years and over the last few I’ve seen a steady improvement in the menu and food quality. My wife and I stopped in last Sunday afternoon for a quick lunch. It was a nice day, so we grabbed one of the tables outside and we’re greeted almost immediately. We ordered a couple of beers and shared a fried chicken lunch special and a house salad. They’ve expanded their menu since the last time we were there and seem to always have specials now as well. All in all, a good experience and we’ll be back.

Great place to relax and have a drink. Staff is very personable, food quality and menu in general need some attention.

I usually come to the second half after I get a haircut at 7 West. Every time I come I have the thought that I should come here more often. They have a decent selection of beers and they have a nice selection of bourbons. The bartenders are great and really friendly. I usually just sit at the bar so I can’t speak about the rest of the restaurant. If you stopping in for a drink at the bar the guacamole is pretty awesome.

Enjoyed the $ 5 Sangria special on the Sunday we went. The French dip sandwhich was pretty good, could have used more cheese. I wouldn’t get the skirt steak wrap again, nothing special. Bergendy sliders were good. Dining area was pretty dark.

Grilled Salmon Caesar Salad… delicious. Service was kind, friendly, attentive. My guest and I stayed quite a long time, and we never were rushed out of the booth, or made to feel like it was time to go. The owner Dennis came to say hello and ask how our meal was… just a really nice lunch at The Second Half On Main. Chicken Sliders were excellent!!!

Great food, service is often pretty good. Love their apps and a handful of their entrees– it’s one of those places where you have to decide upon a few different entrees because they are good. Two star were docked for mainly one reason: they charge you extra to refill a soda(+full price)! That is very unacceptable, especially with their prices. That alone keeps me from going there– for a place to be petty enough to do that. I haven’t been here in at least a month, so someone can correct me if I am wrong and I’ll adjust, but I doubt it.

We always have great experience at the Second Half but we had our best one this past week! A lady named Beth was super friendly and so helpful. Everything she recommended food and drink wise was incredible. The service was fast and excellent! Beth is obviously a pro and has such a great personality that made us feel right at home! She will deff be a main reason we return soon! Beth is a perfect example of 100% customer service and satisfaction!

Had a nice meal here tonight. Tasty buffalo wings and nachos to start. Burger had avocado lettuce and cheese — quite tasty. Ordered onion rings instead of fries — husband had the fries — also tasty. Enjoyed a cocktail called the Hickory which I enjoyed. Would go again.

Horrible. Hounded from the second we tried to park, and it went downhill from there. Never again.

As a Denville resident, I used to look forward to stopping by here from time to time. Not anymore… My wife and I stopped by yesterday afternoon for a beer and a quick bite. Not so fast… The bartender, an older woman with dark hair, was TOTALLY fixated on some regulars at the end of the bar. She was so involved with them she didn’t even notice we came in and sat down. We waited and waited and waited… She still never noticed us while she talked and carried on with her friends, passing us a few times while doing so. This went on for over 10 minutes before we walked out, which she also didn’t notice. BTW, the same exact same thing happened to us last month so I thought I’d let everyone know not to waste their time here unless you’re a regular perhaps? Also, we noticed the place was dirty and unkempt. The floors by the bar was filthy and the men’s bathroom was disgusting. Also, for some reason there was one of those cheap apple-cinnamon scented candles burning behind the bar, perhaps trying to cover up the stench of this dirty restaurant? I doubt this place will make it through the winter… Good Luck

I had the Flounder entrée tonight. Two complete fillets perfectly presented with a mixed greens & cucumbers. This following a cup of beef barley«soup of the day». Very flavorful! We have frequented this place since it was known as Roebling in a previous location on Main St. While occasionally disappointed it remains a go to several times a year in all seasons. We are always welcomed and the staff is always competent. It’s a «go to» establishment.

I really love this place. I work right down the street so i come here regularly. Everyone is super friendly, and their food is great. Their burgers are definitely top 5 all time i have ever had. The bartender Luke is a great person. He makes this great drink the velvet hammer. I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this place. It has a nice, friendly, atmosphere; pleasant and attentive waitresses; good food, good beer and shaded outdoor seating. I had the walnut salad with blackened chicken. Good, simple, healthy and clean. Just what I wanted.

I’m not sure what happened, my husband and I have been here twice before — each time it was absolutely amazing. However this time, not so much. We started with the mozzarella sticks, they barely had any flavor and the sauce was so watery it wouldnt stick to the breading at all. My husband had the crab cakes, which he didnt eat because it didn’t taste like it was good crab at all. I had the stuffed shells again — and they were… not worth the money I paid. The sauce was watery and the cheese in the shells had no flavor. The bread that came with the meal had this awkward garlic bread taste. Like they used vinegar or something I’m not sure. Not sure what happened here, but I hope it was a one time thing.

Loved it. We have been meaning to try it for a long time and we finally made it. The service was excellent, our waiter was really good. I had wings(best I have had in a long time) and the ny strip with blue cheese. My steak was very reasonably priced and out of this world. My wife had the fish and chips and it too was top notch. We are both very picky and were not expecting such a great meal from this little Irish Pub. Every once in awhile you get lucky and find a gem, tonight was our night. Bravo Second Half, well done. We will be back without a doubt.

Great find! Small, intimate space — great bar — great service — very good food. Love the local nature of the place(local advertising on the pint glasses). I have had great veggie sandwiches and great catfish sandwich specials. Staff is always friendly and down to earth. While I have only had lunch — the bar(and beer selection) looks like a great spot.

Second Half is nothing out of the ordinary or memorable, but not bad, either, which is why I give them 3 stars. We go there about once a year. I’m somewhat indifferent about Second Half, not inspired one way or the other to write about their food or the service. I do think Houlihan’s has similar or better food than Second Half, though, so you can use this comment as a gauge. It does look inviting from the curb, especially in the warmer months when you can dine at their sidewalk café. The outside is much more interesting looking than it is on the inside. Best bet is to relax and enjoy lunch at the sidewalk café on a beautiful summer day.

I was really disappointed. The service was okay The atmosphere was lacking. The prices are outrageous compared to the quality of food you get. I got the chicken parmesan and my date got the enchiladas. While neither of these were bad, they were by no means good or worth my money or time. The specials are boring as well. The outdoor patio was cute, and while drinking here out on the patio sounds like fun I highly doubt I’ll come here again.

The food was OK, nothing special and priced accordingly. My issue is that the restaurant charged me twice for the meal. I called them when I noticed and they apologized(said they were aware that that was happening) and said they would reverse one of the charges. I called a week later and they said the same thing. It now 2 weeks later and they still have not reversed the charge. Makes me wonder… After calling the restaurant and leaving message 4 times, the owner finally called me back. He was rude, obnoxious and said it was a computer mistake that made me get charged twice. He also said it wasn’t a big deal and that he «doesn’t need my money» so he’ll refund it. When I said the big deal was that it took over 2 weeks to get a response, he said that he doesn’t have a secretary and that his waitresses(who I spoke to before), and I quote, «Are just waitresses, so what do you expect?» His restaurant is painfully average in every way and now that I have been exposed to the owner, it is completely off the consideration list. I will spend my money at a place that values both its customers and its employees.

It“s been a long time since I’d been to the Second Half — in fact I’d only been to the new location one other itme(sadly the original location burned down… and I loved the original location) I decided it was time to give it a shot so my kids and I went for lunch today. On a dreary, damp day there were few people around downtown Denville so the place wasn’t full and we were seated immediately. Drinks came quickly(our waitress was awesome-very quick and very attentive) as did our first course. My daughter ordered a Caesar Salad and I ordered a French onion soup(we shared, cute right?) The Caesar salad was very good… great dressing-not too much, delicious parm cheese shavings, though my daughter wanted more than 4 croutons. The French onion soup was one of the better ones I’ve had in the area-delicious broth, nice cheese topping, not too oniony, but way too small for $ 5.50. For our entrees, my son ordered the Chicken BLT, and he liked it but he thought the roll was too big-and the chicken and bacon were good… though it needed some seas0ning. My daughter ordered fish and chips-very nicely done without a lot of breading, not oily, you can really taste the delicate fish. If you like fried fish this is really yummy(her word choice there). I ordered the Portofino wrap with onion rings-tthe wrap had breaded chicken(I thought it was grilled, duh), prosciutto, fresh basil & melted mozzarella cheese with a tomato garlic sauce. It was a bit too salty, but the saltiness didn’t detract from the taste-it was pretty damn tasty. The onion rigns and fries were ok, not great, but good. Overall I liked it here, thought it is pretty small. Good food, good service, good beer, good menu, but a little pricey. 3.5 stars, not quite 4 stars yet though.

*3.5 Stars* I have a bit of sentimental value for this place. 1st date with the gf. I really didn’t care for the meal though. I returned yesterday willing to give it a second chance. It did redeem itself. The service was exception. The waitress was very prompt and friendly. It was Mexican night so we tried the guac(yummy…chunky and lots of flavor) with chips. I had the Mexican burger and I was very impressed. The burger had onions and spices in it topped with avocado’s and pepperjack cheese… great mix! They cooked it exactly like I love it: Medium Rare. The bun held it’s own and didn’t get soggy. They have Mexican drink specials(Corona’s and margarita’s). They have outside seating during warmer days. The bar area has tv’s to watch games but its not very big. ENJOY!
