I really cannot say enough positive things about the staff at this store. They all go above and beyond at every step. So warm and welcoming, and not shy about giving advice and encouragement. It’s truly a premium shopping experience here. Nice selection and well kept. I do wish bills could be paid in store but that had nothing to do with the location. Excellent place to shop.

Yes, Torrid has very cute clothes, but WOW, the customer service is wonderful! I made my first stop in the store today and met a woman who mentioned she is a new manager… she totally deserves this position! She was extremely helpful, fun, and upbeat. I am still smiling about my experience there. Way to go, Torrid… seems you have a clue how employees should interact with your customers! (If you’re using a credit card to purchase, be sure to carry your id as they do not accept debit!!)

I’ve shopped at their website a long time ago and I found myself inside an actual Torrid store while visiting my family in New Jersey this past weekend so I took advantage of being able to actually try things on. I’m at the smaller end of the plus sized spectrum and I’m really happy Torrid exists. I swear to god, growing up I was convinced that pudgy ladies were doomed to an existence of boring old lady clothes. Torrid understand that the rounded gal is current, hip, interesting and not ashamed to dress her appropriate age and not like their grandma! With that said, I think some of their stuff is hit or miss. The sizing can be tricky and trying things on here is key. Most things I was a 0 in and randomly I was a 3 in cute little shrug. I think sizing in general is crazy so you can’t really depend on any consistency. I tried on a handful of dresses and tops and walked out with an awesome military style spring jacket. Kudos to whomever started this business. It rocks!

Every time I’ve been here it’s been for at least an hour at a time. I am always in the store for a very long time. This is good to point out considering I can’t wear the clothes at Torrid. But I wish I could. As a company, they stock really cute clothing and accessories for the plus sized girl(or should I say gurrrl). Everything in the store is cute and highly stylized. Also, everything is geared towards a plus size girl. Literally everything. Rings are larger, bracelets are larger, sunglasses are wide to look good on a bigger face, even shoes are sold in wider sizes. It is fantastic that everything is sold to make a girl feel comfortable with herself and look hot doing it. This location has some of the most amazing sales associates I’ve ever seen. There’s usually a fine line between helpful and creepy or annoying. The girls at Torrid are so extremely helpful but never cross that line into annoying(or creepy). They offer suggestions, help with sizes, lament about strange cuts in some garments, and generally encourage you in life. It’s amazing. You can tell they are generally proud to work there. Torrid’s only downfall is their high prices. They are high but they know that’s the price people will pay to look great. I never mind when my friend wants to go to Torrid for a few hours. I’m happy cause it means I’ll walk out of there with a cute new hair accessory and the knowledge that girls of all shapes and sizes are well taken care of and looking hot.

Torrid is THE shopping destination for plus size(12 – 24) young women. There are very few options, as a big girl, for looking hot, and Torrid is really the only store that has truly nailed its demographic. They have fashions for all walks of chubby life, from urban brands like Apple Bottoms and Baby Phat, to goth-y Hot Topic brand Tripp. I myself am an Ed Hardy/LA Ink girl — I will buy anything tattooed and/or nautical themed without blinking an eye. But the point I’m making is that this store is one of a kind in that they play to a specific audience: fat girls who still like to look cute and be in style. Forget department stores, unless you’re a 22 year old who enjoys wearing moo moos or solid polos and too-big khakis to the club. Lane Bryant, while good for career wear and underwear, is really overpriced and carries mainly conservative, plain outfits. I go there more for work pants and bras. Avenue sucks and is boring, and Ashley Stewart is another overpriced, expensive, conservative store with way too specific of a demographic. Old Navy once had plus sizes in store, but like the patriarchal, looksist pigs they are, they made the decision to take all plus sizes off the shelves a few years ago, and offer them online only. Wouldn’t want fattys running around your store making all the normal people uncomfortable, would you, Old Navy? So, Torrid gets an A+ for carrying fun, sexy, young, outrageous, fashionable, affordable clothing for people who give a crap about what they look like. They’ve got a great online store as well, plus a store credit card and discount program called«divastyle.» Fun! Furthermore, I wanted to talk about the Deptford store in particular. I have been shopping here, faithfully, since 2005. There are other Torrid locations that exist in the area(Cherry Hill Mall, most notably), but this particular Torrid location owns my heart. I’ve gotten to know certain members of the staff there over the years, and they’re always so helpful and amazing. I walk in there and they jump to show me the new stuff that’s come in, saying stuff like«Hey, this one is your style,» and«This one reminds me of something you’d wear.» They’re just mall employees, probably making less than $ 10 an hour, and they pay enough attention and care about their jobs enough to recognize me when I show up and recommend items based on my personal style. That’s REALLY saying something.
