First time and I loved it! I WILL come back here and definitely for my birthday since I was told you get a sombrero on your head! I can’t have gluten, and I was SO pleased to see that everything gluten free was clearly labeled on the menu! I didn’t need an allergen list for once. Right next to the title of the entrée it says«gluten free» in a little circle if it is gluten free. I got the chilaquiles, and I ate all of them! I’m so happy with Los Cocos, and when you go(because you need to go) ask for Andrew! He’s a sweetheart and great at his job!

Just about everything is amazing here. I catered them for my wedding because it was so good and everyone still tells me today it was some of the best wedding food they have ever had because it wasn’t a normal big name cater that everyone use in town. My favorite dish here is the enchilada suiza or the chicken soup. OMG that chicken soup is so good! I always ask for my side with the enchilada’s to be papa’s(potatoes with lots of amazing white cheese on top). Everything here is legit, and it is probably the closest you will get to the real deal. This is the only Mexican restaurant I will consider going to because the quality is that good. Also, every time I come in the owner is always kind and greets us and makes a point to come by the table to say hello. Be sure to beat the rush from dinner or provide plenty of time to wait because sometimes the place can get packed!

First off! I love good Mexican food! This place however is not good Mexican food in my opinion, I see some people like it. They are certainly entitled to their opinion. I felt the food was very bland and flavorless. Even the chips and salsa lacked in taste! The service wasn’t much better. The place looks like it would have great tasting food, but don’t be deceived by the appearance of the building thinking you are headed for great food. My opinion if you have taste buds go somewhere else if you want good Mexican food. Note: I am not trying to be mean just honest! If I could rate with zero stars I would have.

This is our regular Mexican place in Derby-much better than any other place in town. Love that they will do a lunch menu on the weekends

Went on a Friday night! Service was curtious and friendly. Food was hot, fresh and delicious. Had the Strawberry margarita pitcher, good value. Much better than the Wichita location. Manager even came by the table to check on us.

We thought we’d give this place another try. The food is still pretty bland for Mexican cuisine. I ordered the enchiladas Mexicano and the first thing I thought when they brought it to our table was«Why are they hiding the enchiladas under all this lettuce?» My daughter ordered extra guacamole and was brought a sliced avocado. Guess we were expected to make our own guacamole. The steak in steak fajitas is bland and tough. This place could use some lessons in seasoning and plating food. We had a dandy waiter, Andrew, so attentive and eager to please.

Sorry, is this supposed to be Mexican food? I know we’re in Kansas, land of gringos, but damn. This is like a fancy Taco Bell. I’ve been here twice, and both times it was lackluster and tasteless. Grocery store refried beans beat theirs hands down. I gave them a 2 for décor and service, but seriously. Chipotle is more authentic.

I just want to say, prior to tonight, my previous experience at Los Cocos has always been pleasant. The food is okay and service is above mediocre. Let’s skip the fillers and straight to the points… multiple things that happened. 1. When I was midway finished with my food(Grilled Lime Chicken without the beans), I found an uncooked piece of chicken underneath the second piece of Grilled Chicken I haven’t touched. It wasn’t even a sliver of meat, it was about ½“x2″ size. At first, I thought it was just a piece of vegetable hiding underneath the chicken. As I examined the foreign material in my dish with a flash light, used the napkin to sop the marinade, cut through it, it was clear it was a raw piece of chicken. 2. When the waiter came by and asked how the food was, I pointed out to the raw piece of meat on my dish and said«I think this is a piece of raw chicken». His response was«That’s not chicken, that’s onion or something.» I then replied«No, that’s not onion.» He just stood there, basically just shrugged his shoulder like«eh» and walked away without and apologizing. At this time, I thought he was about to get the manager and let him know about the situation. 3. So I waited and waited but no manager. I had to waive another waiter after taking care of her customer and tell her if I can see the manager. The manager finally came and I showed him the piece of raw meat that was on my dish. He asked me if I wanted a different one but told him that I lost my appetite. 4.The waiter never did apologize once for the situation. Some of these might be nit-picking but only because of how the waiter handled things. I was left hanging as if he had so many tables to take care of. He didn’t own up for not calling the manager, perhaps he didn’t want to be held accountable for what happened. I don’t know. This is just my opinion. The manager, however, did take my food out of the bill. I’m rating it solely based on the service last night. I just haven’t felt so disrespected at a food establishment before up until now. Being left hanging like that is not what I call quality service.

Great Food, Great Service! I had the create your own combo with a Tostada and a Burrito. My sides were rice and beans. Great value for 7.99. Our waiter Victor was great! Very prompt and courteous.

Good for the money, but typical if kansas mexican joints, light on flavor, everything covered in cheese. I usually get the chille rellanoes, or fajitas. Good portion size. Service is quick, but rarely friendly.

Lovely place to enjoy a little taste of Mexico, generous drinks, and a host who goes out-of-his-way to ensure that each of his guests has a great experience.

This place is super yummy. The staff is very friendly and they have great prices. We had the Mexicali burrito and carne asada tacos. Both were very generous portions. We also shared a house salad which was one of the best house salads I have had.

We eat here on a regular basis. The staff is friendly and competent. I always get the fajitas chicken nachos(I obviously like it!). The margaritas are so so, but the price is comparable. We’ll continue to take our business to them.

So I’m calling around on a Thursday before a holiday to find last minute reservations for 9 because these guys didn’t write me down. Too bad the service is so crap py I’ll never make it to the food.

My husband really liked it. I was ‘turned off’ by the taco shells from a box — those hard shelled preformed taco shells. On a first try, I will usually try a Combo plate — to try the taco, enchilada & relleno. The margaritas were on special.& my husband liked them. But going to try it again — at their other location!

I like Mexican restaurants; I hate this one. I would take a hole-in-wall authentic any day of the week than this place. The servers were not kind, much less welcoming or cordial. It was like they didn’t want us there either. My fish taco was so smelly I couldn’t eat it. I can only describe it as «gag worthy». Later gator.

I was in town visiting and were told this place is good Don’t Ever GO Here !!! The food was gross. I order seafood big mistake. My boyfriend ordered enchiladas that was even a bigger mistake. The food had no favor at all. The only thing good at the table was the chips… Just the chips !!! If you want Mexican food don’t go here

No where near authentic in my opinion. The red sauce tastes like spaghetti o sauce. Margaritas are weak in my opinion even when you ask for top shelf.

Obviously, the closest to Mexican food you’re going to find in Derby is from the colorful suburban«Mexican» restaurants like Los Cocos. No 3,000-word essays from me this time; just some observations: –Those hard-backed chairs fit the overly-Mexican theme, but man, they are not comfortable. –No semblance of spice is used here. You only get one type of salsa — mild — and while it’s not bad(I polished off two bowls while waiting), it’s nothing to write home about. Too, the chile verde I ordered had a little pepper icon next to it on the menu, but I don’t know why. –The«pork tips» in the tomatillo chile were suspiciously tender for whatever cut of pork it actually was(looked more like tenderloin to me), but at least it was tender. The bright tomatillo sauce and slightly caramelized red onions provided a nice counterbalance, too. –I had no way of ordering a la carte, so I was stuck with the rice and beans. They were particularly bland in this case. –Service was nice. At the end of the meal, everyone said it was«good» and left it at that. In my experience, a dismissive comment such as that isn’t so much a ringing endorsement as it is a comment that you were just looking for a reason to get out of the house.
