Stopped in Burek today for lunch with friends. We had the Bosnian Gyros and the Greek Gyro. Quite possibly the best gyro I’ve had in a while. The atmosphere is nothing special; small and quaint. The staff was friendly. And the prices weren’t too bad either. If Bosnian food is on the menu or if you are just looking for something a little different, give Burek a shot. You won’t be sorry!

Talked a couple of co-workers into making the trip to Burek on Merle Hay for lunch today. Bosnian food. They both got the Cevapi(bread and beef/sausage links). I ordered the Bosnian gyro as I had seen some great feedback on it. Similar to a Greek gyro, but served on the lepina bread. For the price you get a HUGE amount of food! I can’t say enough about the portion sizes and bang for your buck here. If my kids ate gyros we could have all split one(and I’m not a light eater). I was full at the halfway mark… and completely stuffed when I moved into the second half. I’ll probably be napping at my desk later if I don’t get up and move around a little… The pictures really don’t do it justice… they are over-sized square plates(maybe 14 inches or more). I’m guessing the lepina bread on each entrée was 10″ across. Drinks are bottles, etc for $ 2 ea. The individual portions of food are priced between $ 5 and $ 8 for the most part. Family sized portions for $ 15 or $ 20… The service was minimal. Pretty much counter ordering and seat yourself from what I could tell. We arrived about 1145ish AM. There was one small party eating there, and the rest of the tables were open. We pre-paid at the counter when we ordered, but I also saw a few guests pay as they left. She did bring the drinks and food to the table when it was ready. It wasn’t a long wait… probably about 10 min. The guys both said their cevapi and lepina was wonderful. This was one of my friend’s first steps into Bosnian cuisine. The gyro was excellent. I was very happy with the taste, quality, and the time it took for our food to be served. The restaurant itself is very minimalist with two tables for three, two tables that can accommodate four or five, and one larger table up front that held up to 10 maybe. Check out their Facebook page(BurekDSM); there are a few interior restaurant pics on the page and a picture of the menu. They take credit cards or cash, and going by their sign they offer carryout and delivery. One other thing I thought is worth mentioning is the sales tax is figured into the menu prices. If your entrée is $ 8…it’s $ 8…not $ 8.48, etc. My bill for lunch was $ 10 for a soda and the gyro plus tip.

Not good. We had the little sausages called cevapi… they were chewy and very dry. Big portions but the quality of the food was not very good. Also, the place looks a bit seedy.

This food is so good! I am glad to finally know where an authentic Bosnian restaurant is! Their chevalier is a must have!

My very first Bosnian restaurant experience! I was referred to this place by a Bosnian friend who states you must get the Cevapi which is the most authentic Bosnian dish and tastes great. This is a very small eatery with limited tables. The staff members are very friendly and helpful in providing recommendations for first-timers. We got the Cevapi which is a Bosnian bun/bread with many tasty sausages inside. This tasted amazing and the portion size was big! The flavors were very new to me so I knew I was eating a new cuisine. We also had the Bosnian Gyro, which is basically a standard Gyro with the Bosnian bun. It was huge as well and tasted great! One of the better tasting gyros in town. Parking was very convenient in the private lot and it was not too busy, providing quick service. I highly recommend this place to try Bosnian food!

I have not had Bosnian Food a lot but this place is seriously amazing. It looked slightly questionable when we first entered the restaurant as nobody was eating there on Saturday night until later on. But the food is really good and cheap! We ordered a family size mixed meat and an individual cheese Zvrkovi. Don’t let them fooled you when it said it was an individual portion because it was huge. The pastry in the Zvrkovi was flaky and thin with lots of cheese inside that was just melted in your mouth. The Mixed meat platter also came with salad and fries. I would say it could feed 3 – 5 people for $ 20. The lepinja bread that came with it was also very soft and buttery. I would say this place is underrated but you should come and try!

Simply amazing Bosnian food. Cevapi, if you haven’t had, is a skinless beef sausage that is grilled and served on a pita-style bread. It’s amazing. The burek, we always go with spinach and cheese, is simply amazing. Imagine a crispy pastry style pizza stuffed with deliciousness and baked. We order ahead and pick up and it looks like we’re not the only ones. There is a restaurant where you can sit down, but it is small, and we haven’t ate there.

Was rolling through returning from a road trip to Michigan and decided I didn’t want the typical road slop. Glad I found his spot on Unilocal! I wanted a gyro to go and the sweet Bosnian employee that answered the phone explained to me there was a difference between a Bosnian gyro and Mediterranean. I’m glad I opted for the Bosnian to try something new bc I was pleasantly surprised. That bad boy is huge and the bread is tasty. Thanks for your recommendation and also helping me out by rushing the order since I was pressed for time!

Wonderful food and people. Ate till I was too full and took home leftovers that were just as good the next day. My dining companion bit into her gyro and mid bite said«Oh my God». It was that delicious. She texted me the next day to tell me hers was just as good warned up too. It is a carnivores hide out or heaven. We drove there from Ames just to try it. We had heard it was worth the trip and it was. The two of us ate for $ 30.00 and took home enough food for two more meals. Even the price was delicious.

I had the Bosnian Pita today for lunch. I wasn’t expecting such a generous portion. However, I devoured it. The meat and seasoning were exceptional. I don’t think I’ve been this pleased with a lunch in a very long time. The staff were quick to assist me and answered some questions. The folks working were quite friendly and welcoming. I will be back, and I’ll bring some friends along.

So compare this to Saraj… this is really the same type of food, Bosnian or Greek Gyros, Burek, Bosnian pastries. I ordered the bosnian gyro. WOW this thing was huge. I have a pretty healthy appetite, but I could not finish the bosnian gyro. Layers of well seasoned gyro meat with a yogurt sauce, onions, lettuce and tomato. Really good. I wouldn’t recommend coming here on a date, its a very spartan looking restaurant, definitely a good place to go for a quick lunch or for carry out. One GIGANTIC Bosnian gyro = $ 7. Well worth it.
