Finally made it here for a Tonic Sol Fa holiday show. They place there every year(typically 2 nights!), but I’ve never been able to make it until this Christmas. Very nice venue, and I hope to be back again in 2016! :)

Hoyt Sherman is an absolute jewel. 1,252 seats and nary a bad seat in the house. This gorgeous, historic auditorium hosts some of the most prominent writers, musicians, comedians, artists & luminaries from all over the globe. Bookmark this venue and stay on top of great shows coming to Des Moines.

One of the classic beautiful theaters with a magical vibe too it. Situated on a hill Hoyt Sherman Place looks over downtown Des Moines from the NW side of downtown. I have only seen a couple shows here but both were amazing experiences. I saw Neko Case from the front row, and Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac from about half way up the ramp. The thing that blew my mind is that in both seats of theater that I have sat in the sound was immaculate! Not to loud, but still loud enough to jump up out of the seats to shake the money maker a bit! I have never sat up in the balcony but it hangs over the first deck so I’m sure the sound up there is great too. The concourse is kinda small so if you get claustrophobic you might want to stay in your seats after the show for a few minutes until the majority of the crowed leaves. If you get the chance get to a show here, the experience is like no other in town.

Very nice auditorium, not too big to give you a good view wherever you have seats. Parking might be an issue if you don’t plan ahead.
