This place is my go-to take out chinese food in Des Moines. I love that you order one dish and you have leftovers to feed you the next day too. The veggies are always fresh, the tofu is browned to perfection every time. The only issue I have had with this place is that the sauce could use an extra oomph of spice to it. I always order to go so I can change this at home and I’m a little particular about spicing so I may be in the minority here. My husband is also a fan of their chicken.

I used to be over in this neck of the woods more, and I have been to Taste of China a few times! Nothing to write home about here, but not horrible either! My biggest gripe is the veggies and tofu were never that great, maybe frozen? The sauce was pretty lack luster as well! I did enjoy the massive food portions that they give you for the price! This is the kind of Chinese place I used to go in my younger years after a hang over! At that point you don’t care how spicy the sauce is, you just want to stuff you face with lots of food! This spot would be perfect for that! The actual restaurant is a bit run down and old, and the bathrooms are not the finest I have ever seen, but not horrible, so if you want a ton of food at a good price hit it up!

I thought it was vital* that I update my review. Consensus: this spot is still really good and the food is still awesome! Portions are still huge and delicious. *Woke up with the worst hangover I’ve had in a while. Moped around for a bit, then decided to call in a carry-out order at Taste of China, right in my neighborhood. It was so delicious that I felt compelled to update my previous review.

This place delivers downtown(for sure at night), and their food is pretty good. Their steamed dumplings are fantastic, and will likely ensure that you have leftovers of your entrée if you order them. Their lunch specials are an insanely good value. Deep fried entrees like the general tso and orange chicken only come with a couple pieces of broccoli, whereas the stir fried dishes come with tons of veggies. If you like your food spicy, you’ll need to provide your on hot sauce.

It was ok. Nothing to write home about. Food was hot. Sweet n sour sauce a bit bland. Too much food for my taste. I had a problem ordering cuz the girl did not understand me well. Now the food is decent for the price, don’t get me wrong. I also wish it was warmer, had to eat with my coat on cuz it is that cold.

Best potstickers I’ve ever had, hands down. The food was hot and tasty. The cuts of chicken were not spectacular, but I’m super picky. Will definitely eat there again!

When it comes to Chinese restaurants. I have two categories that I put them in. Either normal, which means the food is good, or bad. I’ve yet to have an earth moving experience eating Chinese food. Which is not a bad thing. But I have had some horrible food from some Chinese restaurants. Fortunately Taste of China is a good restaurant. When I still lived in Des Moines I would order delivery from them. Which was prompt and the food always arrived hot. Now that I’m outside of their delivery area I will stop by every now and then for carry out. There are currently only three Chinese restaurants that I will go to in the Des Moines area. One caters to buffet dining. The other doesn’t accept credit or debit cards. Bottom line: lots of food for the price(expect to pay about $ 10 per entrée). Accepts credit and debit cards. Delivery is available(if your in their delivery area). And the food is good. What more can you ask for.

Taste of China is exactly what you imagine it will be, and it is fantastic for what it is: an Americanized-Chinese restaurant in the heart of Des Moines, Iowa. They won me over by spamming the dorms of Drake University fulfilling a desire for a cheap«Chinese-food» lunch that will deliver, even in a snow storm(which I have tested). I have only ever tried their General Tso’s, and it is by far my favorite, which is why I tended to order it time and time again. They have a fantastic lunch special where you can have a small order of General Tso’s on a bed of rice with a handful of fresh crispy broccoli with a side of soup and your choice of crab rangoon or an egg roll. It’s a fantastic deal and a ton of food that can realistically last you for lunch and dinner.(Plus, with the inclusion of an extra order of their super cream cheesy/fantastic crab rangoon you make their minimum purchase amount to qualify you for free delivery.) Their restaurant is well lit and clean, and the staff is incredibly nice. If you ever find yourself in Des Moines and want a fantastically delightful and filling meal of Chinese food, this is definitely one of the places to go to.
