We visited the Heritage Carousel on a recent trip to Des Moines. Wonderful fun! It’s in a nice little park, easy to get to. It’s a new carousel, but it’s a hand-​carved replica of the great old carousels, and there’s a lovely old-​fashioned band organ making that classic merry-​go-​round music. Kids ride for 50 cents, adults are a buck but free to stand next to a young child. I was happy just to walk around it, take some pictures and enjoy the music. Note that it’s only open late spring to early fall. Check website for hours. Great fun, even for a young-​at-​heart oldster like me!
