Been here many times for lunch and happy hour. The grilled steak salad with blue cheese is fantastic. The fried calamari is perfectly lightly breaded. The lobster claws and oysters are a great deal on the happy hour menu. Cocktails are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is classy, yet not swanky/stuffy.

Ashley was our server, and provided us with a great dining experience. We were celebrating our birthdays as they are very close together. Ashley assisted us in selecting from the great food items on the menu and made our celebrating a big success. We were not hurried or rushed and thoroughly enjoyed the food, the service and the dining experience. We will continue to include J. Gilberts in enjoying great food and service in our future special occasions as we celebrate good parts of our lives.

I’m just going to get right to it. I dream about the pretzel crusted onion rings. They’re thick cut – about an inch or more and are served with three sauces. The rings themselves are so perfectly done that they really don’t need any type of sauce. However, the sauces are pretty amazing too. My husband likes their aged whiskey and says the manhattans are good. I order wine and usually opt for the 6 oz pour, but a 9 oz is also available if you like to fill that glass. We typically sit at the bar or take a booth in the bar area. The atmosphere is friendly, but not overbearing. Service is prompt and professional.

So the food… fantastic. The wait staff… excellent. My fiancé and I had a wonderful time throwing our engagement party at this venue until the general manager treated us terribly. He was rude, condescending, and spoke to us like we were children. It was so disappointing that our special event ended that way because we had such a high expectations. I won’t one star this establishment because one person was terrible, but I won’t continue to give a restaurant my business when it is being led by a person who doesn’t appreciate my business. I’ll be happy to return when the general manager is no longer a part of this otherwise fine restaurant. Thank you to the rest of the staff, and it really is unfortunate that you have to operate under a man you feel the need to apologize for. Hope things get better.

I went to J. Gilbert’s for the first time about a weeks ago. Unilocal was offering a free appetizer, the blue cheese chips, so of course we took advantage. I don’t recommend them unless you’re an advocate for high blood pressure and strong cheese. Other than that, my entrée was about average. I’d return.

We eat here several times a year and typically have a fantastic experience. We ate here late Saturday night and it was great. I expressed to our server that due to the time we would like to order and eat promptly. He assured us that that would not be an issue and it wasn’t. Service was great and so was the food. I highly recommend.

This Thanksgiving I was thankful for J Gilbert’s. I was thankful that I was able to get a reservation at the last minute at the time I wanted. Most importantly, I was thankful for an amazing Prix Fixe Thanksgiving Menu, that satisfied me need for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I liked that J Gilbert’s did a Prix Fixe menu instead of a buffet like so many other restaurants that were open on Turkey Day. Buffets usually are overpriced and overwhelming. Where do you start? What should you eat? and the hardest question of them all, «When do I stop eating?» Our dinner was reasonably priced at $ 38 and included three courses. The first course was a choice of two types of salad and two soups. I choose a Caesar Salad and my friend Norma went with the Maryland Crab Bisque. The size of my salad was appropriate for a lead in to a large meal. I enjoyed the dressing, which was proportionate to the amount of Romaine lettuce. The asiago cheese crisp was the perfect carb match up to the salad. The second course was the main attraction; a Traditional Thanksgiving spread. When the plate was first placed in front of me, I thought it was skimpy servings. As I started to eat, I immediately realized I was wrong. I needed a to-go vessel, that provided me a nice lunch for the next day at work. The traditional spread included; roasted turkey(both dark & white meat), yukon mashed potatoes, cornbread and sausage dressing, gravy, glazed yams, green beans with pecans and cranberry orange relish. I had everything that I wanted and if I closed my eyes, I would have thought I was down home on the farm instead of an upscale steak & seafood house. The third course of course was dessert. You got to select from three of their most popular desserts and of course pumpkin pie. Miss Norma went pumpkin pie, but I had to stray off menu. I saw a Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée pass by our table and instantly knew I had to have it. When I asked our server if I could substitute she was accommodating to my request. It was so delicious with the fresh raspberries on top. Actually, the serving portion is so huge that two diners could share. Let me back-up to the beginning of our evening and tell you about our appetizer and cocktail. One of my favorite cocktails is the Moscow Mule, so I was thrilled when I saw J Gilbert’s made theirs with my favorite vodka; Tito’s and my favorite ginger beer; Fever Tree. Most MM’s are $ 8, but to have my two favorites in my favorite cocktail was worth the $ 10. Plus, they poured heavy, it was a good strong cocktail. Being a fan of crab meat, I couldn’t resist ordering the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. Excellent! You are served two huge cakes and if you order this item for lunch, for me it would be the complete meal. They also served up a small loaf of piping hot house bread with two types of butter. The service was; friendly, attentive and not rushed. A couple of friends have told me J Gilbert’s does a great job on lamb chops and scallops. So I know I will be back, as those two entrees are on the menu of my last meal on earth. Can’t wait to give them a try. When: Thanksgiving 2015 Why: Thanksgiving Dinner

As always– superb food and service. We came in for my birthday last night. Started with the tuna tartar. Delicious. The hand a blue cheese wedge. It was big enough for two to split. They even split it for us. Lastly I had the steak medallions. They were amazing as always and we had the rack of lamb and again, tasty as ever. The only negative is the drinks are quite pricy, but– when in Rome. The atmosphere and professional service makes up for the prices. It’s one of my favorite spots for beef and a great meal with amazing service.

If I want a casual meal with an upscale feeling, I always consider this place. The quality of the food and drinks is always on point. There were a few times the service wasn’t a 10/10, but the food made up for it. They have an impressive wine list and a pretty decent happy hour as well. Be sure to try the creamed corn with burgers bacon. OMG… Out of this world. I could eat that forever. It’s ok for kids, but I would say it’s more appropriate for adults or couples. You forget you’re by a mall in the nice atmosphere. This is a must try if you’re in the area or want some quality food after shopping.

Excellent experience from start to finish. The service was just right — attentive but not TOO attentive. We decided to order app, salad entrée + dessert and just take our time and share everything. The front and back of house team split everything for us and we didn’t even have to ask. For starters we had the pretzel crusted onion rings. They’re served with three house made sauces that are such contrasting flavor profiles it’s hard to choose a favorite. The 8oz fillet was as savory and smooth as butter and cooked just right. We chose the poblano au gratin potatoes(baked with crispy edges) and grilled asparagus for sides and they were the perfect compliment to the filet. We saved room for the 7 layer coconut cake for good reason. This is our favorite dessert ever(sorry Cooper’s Hawk chocolate cake!) With not-too-sweet sweetness, and the crunch of toasted coconut and crushed macadamia nuts, the perfect subtle touch of tart passion fruit coulis makes every bite perfect.

They only get a 3 because the shrimp cocktail appetizer was really good. The steak was dry, the potato wasn’t warm enough to melt the butter and the tiny Alaskan King crab was… barely there. Our first an last time to try this place. I liked the atmosphere chic with a nice framed fireplace — Overall a disappointment! Update: Mgmt contacted me after I posted this disappointed about our experience wanting a second chance. I was Impressed to see their proactive response. I will follow and provide another update after speaking with them

This place is one of my favorites, the food is delicious, the service is impeccable. Although the wait staff are all excellent Jason is exceptional. He remembers your selections from the last time and he takes outstanding care of you the entire time you are there. This is a classy place!

I wanted NOT to like this place. It’s «in» a mall. It’s a chain(owned by Houlihan’s). The prices rival many fine-dining restaurants. But, it’s just that good. I got the cheap flat-iron steak with fries for an early dinner. Swapped sweet potato fries with real ones — no problem. My typical lower quality flat iron steak would put up a good fight to any backyard grilled ribeye you could throw at it. Top it with acho chile /garlic butter; and, you lose. Add your name and email to their list to get a $ 25 gift cert on your birthday and anniversary. I’ll be back.

One of the better steak restaurants in St. Louis. We came here for my mom’s birthday and enjoyed the experience very much. We easily made reservations for 9 people with no problem. Our waiter was very friendly and recommended some delicious appetizers that we just loved. The restaurant looks great on the inside and while being upscale, does not require formal attire. Our server helped us decide what to order, giving some great suggestions. Everyone enjoyed their meals very much. Expect to pay around $ 40 – 50 per person for the dinner, but know that it is worth the price. Overall, a wonderful experience and I would go back in a heart beat.

I don’t know how anyone could have a bad experience here. Our server, Jessica, was super knowledgeable and helped us plan the perfect meal. My guy and I split a Caesar salad(big enough to split!) and then I ordered the fillet and lobster tail(and added scallops) and he got the 16oz strip. I want to shout from the rooftops about how great my meal was. Everything was cooked perfectly. After looking at the dessert menu, we decided on the frozen flavors(ice cream made in house). It came with 3 nicely sized scoops(we chose strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate). It was a perfect ending to a great meal. Expect to spend about $ 100 if you get drinks but it’s completely worth it!

This place was awesome! Even better than I expected! We ordered the Wagyu burger with a side a sweet potato fries and the the filet mignon with a side of asparagus and brussel sprouts. The burger was decently seasoned and had perfect melted cheese on top. The onion jam on top provided the perfect sweet to the burger’s salt. The sweet potato fries are skinny fries and are the prettiest, brightest shade of orange I’ve ever seen! They had a nice texture and good seasoning. Now, the filet mignon was incredible! It had one of the most amazing textures I’ve ever experienced in a steak. It also had a very strong pepper flavor that was perfect! The asparagus great and the brussel sprouts with pancetta were everything I want out of life! I will definitely visit this place again!

I have eaten here twice– once for a dine in experience and the other was take out. Our service was excellent each time. I am a vegetarian, but my boyfriend said that Wagyu Burger was the best burger he had ever had. The steak he got the second time was«the best steak I’ve ever tasted in my life.» He was literally able to pull the meat apart with this fingers because it was so tender. On our to go order the burger we ordered was extremely rare which we didn’t know until we got home, but I called back up there and Trip was very respectful, extending an invite for us to come back in and get another. Overall I highly recommend eating here for a night out!
