Tried there build your own burrito. Very big! Very fresh. I’ve tried other things, on the menu and everything has been great.

I used to work in the DeSoto Lancaster area and I used to visit this restaurant periodically and the food was very good however that was 15 years ago so I decided to try out el chico once again and I was very disappointed. I must say the service was very good it is just that the food was not the food had a somewhat plastic taste and tasted like it was maybe alt co TV dinner from Walmart unfortunately due to my experience at this time I would not recommend this restaurant.

Well, the only memorable thing about El Chico was the apple pie. Its really good. Now if you’re looking for good Mexican food, I’m afraid this isn’t the place you should expect it from. The Chios and salsa are just OK. The chicken flautas were OK but a bit on the greasy side. The rice was terrible as it tasted exactly like that horrible Uncle Bens microwavable rice in the bag. I don’t even remember the beans but how could you possibly mess up beans?

So me and my girlfriend have been to this el chico twice the first time we ate there we had found a rock in are food. We told management they fixed the issue and were really apologetic about it. So tonight we desided to give them another try and i couldnt beleave that there was another rock in are food how does that happen twice to the same people. We will never eat here again!

I’ll meet the rating half way. To the point that the service was good and my food was good. You know how you try and get in one last meal before the NEWYEAR– before you start doing right. I bought the top chief of course steak quasidilla with sour cream and guacamole. It came with some pinto beans– also good. I have to try other food– for real. HOTMESS

I hate when Mexican restaurants send out cold grocery store quality chips with their salsa. I can forgive them when the salsa is even halfway decent. I cannot forgive the ketchup that this El Chico calls salsa. Thank goodness they had a hotter salsa, even though it looks like watered down canned dog food. The visit was not completely miserable as our server was friendly and helpful. As for the rest of the food, the quesadilla was actually edible, but overall the food is just bad. I don’t like to give bad reviews but this place needs to work on food quality. Sorry.

Food always good. Ordered for lunch at the office Wednesday. Went there for dinner Friday that’s where my husband wanted to go. I prefer to order carry out, because when you go inside the service is usually slow

Regarding El Chico, I was disappointed. The food did not seem fresh and I could not taste the love. I love Tex-Mex but I was just disappointed. Nothing really jumped out to me and grabbed my attention.

It’s tasty to mix the salsa and queso together. Yummy chips and nice staff. The rice was a bit bland, but I’d come back again. They have good lunch specials!

As our friends drove by Dallas on the way to Austin, we meet them here in a sort of freeway no mans land. El Chico was their choice of freeway view joints, over On the Border and other chains. For me El Chico has nostalgia as the«it» Mex place in DFW sometime in the 80’s. I wasn’t expecting to order anything, until I saw the taqueria menu, and the photographs. Those were suprisingly good tacos. Way to go El Chico. The complimentary queso seemed chemically rich and when we asked if it was real cheese the waiter said yes but then laughed at what percentage. The restaurant is decorated in old carousel horses which I liked and the coffee was actually decent.

Why did I do it? Why did I decide to try a chain Mexican restaurant? Well, it was the only thing around and I vaguely remember them having some decent brisket tacos. But, I guess my memory sucks because the tacos were brutal. It was just a pile of «stuff» thrown on a tortilla. It was all clumped together and almost impossible to eat, which would have been okay if it tasted okay, but the flavor was just not there. I’m not a big fan of refried beans, so I ordered the charro beans and they had no flavor. The rice was severely bland, I had to pour hot sauce all over it just to give it some flavor. Oh and if you go there during lunch… be prepared to be bothered a lot while you’re eating. The wait staff appeared to be bored and anxious. I think we were asked if we «needed anything» at least once every 2 – 3 minutes. It was almost like they couldn’t believe they had customers.

I remember going to the El Chico in Towneast Mall when I was younger and it’s really the only nice Mexican restaurant I even remember eating at. Going«out to eat» was a huge treat for our family of 6 and it was always a big deal. One Friday night a few months ago, while all the new restaurants in town were jammed pack, el Chico in desoto popped in my head. No lines like Olive Garden, and no mobs of people like at El Fenix or Chilis… we walked right in and sat down. Then…, it just got better!!! Free queso and chips!(I could eat that all day long.) Then I got a super COLD32 ounce beer for only $ 4.45!(nice mugs!) Need I say more? It’s my new favorite place! We ordered the mushroom chicken fajitas— outstanding! We’ve been several times since and even celebrated my bday there. El Chico — loved ya then, I love ya now…:)

I was craven some great Mexican food, was in Desoto & stopped in the El Chico, wow it was excellent! Food was outstanding, great flavors & it was fresh not packaged like so many chains are now. The service, was great, the staff was smiling & happy, the employees were friendly & seemed to genuinely care, very quick service, hot chips, free Queso! I had the Old fashioned tacos with fresh avocados inside, wow they were terrific. Next time I’m in Desoto I will make sure I eat my Tex Mex craving at the El Chico’s vs the other large national chain.
