I’d recommend that they stop calling this place an executive cigar lounge. Because it is far from that. Waitresses never stop staring at their phones, the bartender doesn’t know what liquor they have. For cigars the best scotch you’ll get is 12yr Glenlevet. I asked for an ash tray the bartender gave me a plastic cup with a wet napkin in it. One single unisex bathroom on each level. The couches are falling apart and they actually had reserve seating signs on all of the couches. Lol. I’ve given this place several tries and it disappoints more each time. Good luck I hope it get’s better.

This is a cool place. They have a basement with couches & music. It is nice place for people who wants to smoke cigar & have a drink with friends. The cigars here are a little bit pricey than other shop according to my friends who know cigars.

Never smoked a cigar ever, I hut come for the Saturday night party. I’m young so I still like to go out, drink and dance. Saturdays are always fun here. Cover is $ 10(sometimes free for ladies before 11) and there is a dj downstairs who plays hip hop and rap. Hookah is waaay too over priced here at $ 30(I will stick with Dearborn for that type of thing). Clean bathroom(though there’s only one) and there is a bar up and downstairs. Love love love 1701!

Cool place for a Saturday night to go out and lounge. They have a $ 10 charge, good parking right out front, and clean bathrooms. Great DJ with hip hop and rap. Small private room for a small party. Great margaritas, very strong but a bit expensive $ 11. They have nice photographers who will print your photo on site for $ 10. Great experience.

Got charged $ 32 for ‘two shots’ The shots were more like doubles, granted, but the waitress poured the drinks, and said ‘that’ll be 32 dollars’ like it was nothing. I’m not convinced that’s regular(or sane) pricing. Either she was trying to get my friend and I out of there for some reason or their prices are obscene. Doesn’t matter, since I’m not going back.

My favorite Cigar Bar in the city. I mean, I don’t smoke cigars… but if I’m going to be in a cigar smoking crowd, this is where I’d want to be. I’ve been here for specific events and love the chill and laid back feel. There is a bar upstairs and downstairs in the cozy cove of a basement. It’s the perfect lounge area with comfy seating, some seats tucked behind curtains. There’s a side room with a large tv screen, plus a spot for a DJ for specific event nights. Nice humidor and helpful staff and owners.

Nice place to go before the game or after the game or if you just want to hang out in a totally COOL place down town. NOFOODNOSNACKS just a great room to smoke your favorite stick(cigar supply run low quickly) and have a cocktail. You have to check out the jazz band in the basement if you can call it that. The room is very cozy and dark, great for a hot date that you just want some alone time. Parking is an issue on game nights though

I went on a few dates with my boyfriend and had a great time and then we went last Friday and they didn’t have any cigars, no band and the bar waitress cheated us out of our change… that’s not good for business at all.”

«I like Cigarettes; I like to think of fire held in a man’s hand. FIRE, a dangerous force, tamed at his finger tips. I often wonder about the hours when a man sits alone watching the smoke of a cigarette, thinking. I wonder what great things have come out from such hours. When a man thinks there is a spot of fire alive in his mind — and it is proper that he should have the burning point of a cigarette as his one expression.» — Ayn Rand(Atlas Shrugged, 1957) so if cigarrettes are that cool, then cigars are all that coolness enlarged. ever since I started smoking I wish more people can accept smoking. I’ve always wanted a place that celebrates the glamour and the cool that smoking brings. And NOW I’VEFOUNDTHEPLACE!!! really, what’s more awesome than chilling in a badass basement with cool arts hanging on the walls, awesome music playing, and sitting next to bunch of gucci manes, dave chapelles, and biggies, smoking cigars and drinking scotch ALLATTHESAMETIME?! I do wish they have a better system for downstairs. it clouds up real quick down there I had to get out and get some air at some point. Plus the area is in downtown and I almost got mugged. Thank god I parked right across the street and I ran fast enough.

So I’m trying to get into new things so Ive been to a few cigar lounges before. So Yesterday night i see that they are having a Scotch tasting at this place so i go… GOODDEAL!!! Unlike the other cigar bars that i have been to the clientele here were more like me ;o), young, chic but cool all at the same time a nice diverse crowd. So here is the good stuff, the ambiance was amazing. Its divided into two parts the main entrance where the bar is located a couch or two and a humidor where you can walk in to hand select your own cigar, which i find pretty cool, me not being at the top of my game with picking cigars, i liked the idea that i can get a true feel for the cigars being that I’m a newbie. The basement is set up where a live band performs, there is plenty of room to sit either at the bar or grab a seat on one of the plenty comfy couches… I love the way the décor is set up with local artist pictures hanging to view or available for purchase, witch is pretty amazing… The drinks prepared there where pretty delicious not being to strong but just enough heat at the end… Good thing i like about it also was my bill was only 28.00 that included two drinks and a cigar, not bad not bad I will definitely come here again, next time with a date instead of by my self, but i think this also a great place to rub shoulders and meet new friends!!! Thanks allot 1701 I will see you next time.

1701 Executive Cigar Bar — In a location that’s pretty much close to everything downtown, yet I didn’t realize it was there until just this week. I am by no means a cigar aficionado — but I’ve been to a few cigar bars over the years and puffed on a stogie or two. This spot is pretty dang cool. You walk into a smaller bar and smoking area on the first floor — while it was pretty empty when we walked in, it was PACKED with regulars on the way out. They have monthly cigar and scotch sampling events in the basement — and this is what we were here for. Down the stairs is a very cool cigar lounge. There’s a larger bar and a small stage area for some live tunes — step a bit further in and there are couches nestled into the brick walls for lounging and looking cool with a cigar from their walk-in humidor. In addition to the live music, they were also displaying art from a local artist. Prices were not bad, the staff was beyond hospitable, the vibe was top-notch. If you fancy yourself a cigar every now and again — you owe yourself a visit to 1701. It’s pretty bad-ass.

Confession: I don’t like cigars. It’s just not my thing. So I wasn’t sure what to expect when I popped in here for an event. What a wonderful surprise! I loved it so much in there that I didn’t even mind all the cigar smoke! The first floor is smoky but cool. It was a Saturday night and it was hoppin’. Groups of folks lounging on the furniture, talking and looking attractive and bad ass with their cigars. Anti-smoking crusaders would be in a panic if they stepped in here because this clientele make smoking look GOOD. I’m not sure if it was the owner or a manager chillin’ by the door but whomever he was he was awesome. Really friendly, ushering us in the door. I felt like family the second I walked in. Downstairs was a bad ass group bringing down the house lead by Yvette Meadows. Chatting with her later reveals she’s a local musician about town who put together the Michael Jackson tribute at the Music Hall a couple of years ago. Nice. The stage is small but intimate, folks from all background are dancing together, drinking and smoking and having a grand old time. It’s a straight up party in there and despite having come after a long day and feeling exhausted, I’m rejuvenated by the energy in there. People are hugging each other. Feelin’ the love. I’m feelin’ it too. The basement is fantastic. Dark but not too dark, like, cozy dark. Lots of exposed brick, nice touches of dark wood here and there and beams along the ceilings, beautiful artwork by local artists on the walls, comfy looking couches, and rounding things out are soft lights behind the bar showcasing all the delicious looking liquor on the shelves. I opt out of a drink because I’m sure I will pass out dead on the floor from exhaustion if some special sauce passes through my lips but I still have a blast. Groovin’ on the music, chatting with Yvette, watching all the folks having a good time. This is my kind of scene. Even with all the cigar smoke swirling around my head.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to a recent promo event at 1701 which offered complimentary scotch and cigars. Upstairs — Seemed to be filled with regulars and had the feel of a club lounge. Downstairs — This was where it was at. The set up and feel to the room were excellent. The brick walls, furniture and indirect lighting made for almost an ideal setting to sip a drink and enjoy a cigar. They had a well stocked bar and even featured a movie room with what I would guess to be an 80−100in projector screen. The entertainment was top notch as well. I believe it was the David Gerrard band? I’d have to look it up to be sure but it was David G… something. Either way the band was awesome. DG could absolutely shred on the electric, I wish I’d taken a video. I’m sure solid jazz musicians and other local artists can be found here regularly. Either way, I wasn’t familiar with the location and have never really crossed paths with 1701 before, but I’m sure I’ll find myself enjoy a cigar after a Tigers victory at some point in the future.

I came here for an art + scotch + cigar event and was incredibly surprised by this place. I knew nothing of this place beforehand. Upon walking in there is a walk-in humidor to the left(didn’t look at the selection), a bar, and a small area with leather chairs and TVs probably holds 20 people max. We were told to go down the basement for the event. Walking down the steps, I had no idea what to expect. I was shocked. The basement bar area is stocked with a nice scotch selection. There is a movie room that had large projection screen and seating area. There are numerous leather couches and chairs to relax in. It is a perfect space for a gathering of people. The only thing I’m not sure on is that area is open to the public since I was there for a special event. It may be a member’s only thing, but I’ll be sure to ask next time. We were given the house blend cigar to enjoy. While not the best cigar I have ever had, I was surprised by the quality of the cigar for being a house blend. Usually, I am not a fan of any smoke shop’s custom blend. All in all, I had a great time here and will definitely come back when the opportunity arises.

Found this place online from home(Utah) and while on a business trip this week, so I walked over two blocks from my hotel with my pipe(and back-up cigar, and White Owl ‘Ranger’.) Was met by «K.G.» the bartender, who promptly served me a Dewars double. I found my way to the walk-in humidor and found a nice cigar. Sat at the bar and struck up a conversation with two guys next to me, and watched an NBA game on the two large flat screens. Not a back crowd for the evening seeing Detroit was just hit with 5″ of snow. «K.G.» then gave me the tour of the downstairs, which was really impressive… with a much larger bar, small stage for the jazz bands(music on Friday and Saturday nights right now,) and the movie room(where an MMA match was being shown.) Nice decorations, nice lighting, and a small crowd… all in all a really nice place. Had a great time. Note that the city license only allows cigar smoking… no cigarettes or pipes… which is what I smoke. Oh well… I can still go there and enjoy a stogie every once in awhile… and always have a beer or a scotch too. Will definitely be back!

1701– alluring from the outside, and a surprise from within. I sort of just stumbled into this place that has an address as their name. If you know me, you know that I’m a jazz fan… so I was drawn by the music that was playing on the speakers from the outside. Walking in, there is a bar directly in front of you and cigar closet to the left(not sure of the technical term) Everyone is really friendly and willing to help you pick out the cigar that best suits you. I’m not much of a smoker but I definitely enjoy a nice stogy every once and a great while. I really didn’t know what to expect from this place, I thought the top floor was all that you got. I mean, it seemed like enough, but it turns out that there is a huge lounge area downstairs with a stage where live jazz is played on Friday nights(at the moment) there is also a small theater room(Inglorious basterds was being played) as well as another lounge and some pretty cool art was displayed on the walls. From what I hear, this place gets pretty packed on the weekends. I will definitely be coming back. Another hidden gem in the D.

I liked the place. It’s not quite as swanky as the VIP Lounge at the nearby La Casa De La Habana, but the location is nice and the people are very down to earth. Also, the prices were quite reasonable. The outside patio is directly across from the Wayne County Building which is a beautiful piece of architecture(for those of you who enjoyed the Da Vinci Code, you can smoke your cigar and imagine the stories behind columns and huge bronze sculptures). I went on a Saturday night and it was not overly crowded. It is located in Cadillac Square and there are many other clubs nearby. Afterwards, my friends and I headed to a nearby Coney Island– can’t remember which one, but it was on Man vs. Food. And the Coney’s were excellent. All in all, it was a lot of fun!
