I came in to get some pieces of wood to try and hold my window unit air conditioner over for a few days. I was expecting to have to get a large piece and hack it up the best I could. I was really pleasantly surprised when the young man behind the counter directed me to another employee who showed me to their scrap heap, essentially bits of wood that were left over or recovered from god knows where and how old. Then he offered to cut any piece I needed to fit! It wound up costing me less then a dollar and has held up my AC unit for months now, instead of the temporary fix I had in mind. They earned my business from now on.

If you need it, they have it and the prices are great! Support local. The lumber is a touch above home depot, but home depot uses the lowest grade lumber you can buy.

Brooks lumber is an icon and needs your help. I know all the fellas(and the super rad ladies) out there can feel me on this one– the hardware store is awesome. My first memory of Brooks is listening to a tiger game as a kid… Hearing Cecil fielder crush a baseball far into the night and hearing Ernie say«they’ll probably find that one in the parking lot at Brooks tomorrow ha ha! « The staff at Brooks is super helpful and on point. Last week they literally taught me how to install my washer and dryer(which I’m embarrassed i didn’t know but forgive me for paying rent my whole life thus far) and got me all the right stuff and didn’t try to sell me on any random crap. Good luck getting anyone at homies depot to show you where anything but the cash register and maybe the actual washers and dryers are. The place is a true old school gem and needs to be preserved. Go buy a screwdriver or something.
