I’m rating this place not as a restaurant, but as a steakhouse, which is what it professes to be. The steaks are mediocre and cooked poorly. As many have mentioned, they are thin, improperly butchered(if they’re selling by the ounce, they have much less incentive to cut the fat off of them), improperly aged, and improperly cooked. Their steaks definitely have no char on the outside, it seems like they pan fry everything in oil. Their baked potatoes are good, but way, way over priced. They literally charge $ 5 just to add bacon bits to your potato. A baked potato with cheese and bacon bits is around $ 10.

Somethings are better left alone. The restaurant is small and outdated but the food is great! The environment is cozy and the waitstaff is very nice and friendly. If you want a really GOOD steak/meal, you will not be disappointed. The other entrees are really good too. I love their cod fish and I always get a side of their spinach, feta and tomatoes.

Three and not Four stars due to the fact that my 18oz Delmonico came to the table looking flat, grey, overcooked and about 4 oz light on portioning. Staff was very friendly, seems like a nice neighborhood kinda joint. Not at all dive or diner like, as some people have mentioned. French onion soup was very nicely done. Baked potato arrived to the table cold/tepid, which stinks. I could have enjoyed a. little potato while I waited for my 14oz Filet Mignon, which was indeed bad ass, and damn near perfect. The ribs on this Thursday were fantastic and only $ 15 for a full slab. They were expertly done. My Belvedere martinis were great and for less than $ 13 I had two. Poor wine selection, shoddy beers. I just know there’s a learning curve that I will get, and soon. Stay away from the Delmonico steaks and go for Filet. Other than that we showed up Thursday night at 5:45, and there was a line to the front door. Not a terrible wait, about a half an hour. Very narrow aisle way made it dicey when folks walked out carrying to go bags or w kids. Def give this place a shot, just remember my provisos.

Everyone was telling me about this place, so the hubby and I drove to the east side to try it out. It’s a small place, but the food was delicious! My 12 oz t– bone was cooked to perfection and salad bar had fresh fixings. When we arrived, there was no one in line and we were seated immediately(plus), but when we left, the line was headed out the door! We will be returning.

I Went to Capers on a Saturday night around closing and once again Capers lives up to word on the street and their reviews. Cool laid back chill environment. You have the neighborhood locals, family’s, friends, and ur Saturday night daters. They added flat screens, up to date carpet and better lighting inside over the years. Now let’s get to the FOOD! Great and filling, u get tons and tons of food. Great size steaks that are flavorful and tender. Man O Man! And what a pleasant surprise was the salad bar. It’s absolutely delicious. They have this antipasto salad that’s with the salad bar that’s to die for! All my food was great tasting and plentiful. So me and my guest order Delmonico steaks, fried catfish, potato skins(loaded) mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, shrimp and broccoli… MYMYMY we ate till we couldn’t eat anymore. My advice would be please be aware of ur surrounding when visiting, especially at night. The Parking sits in the back of the restaurant. Yes it has good lighting but still pay attention. Or just park on the street. And that’s all umma say about that. Oh! And staff was great! Attentive, knowledgeable, and down to earth. Looks like they have been their for years.

So my husband made a big deal about how great this place is and that I was going to just love it. Well not so much. It wasn’t the worst but definitely not the best. The parking lot is tiny. It’s very small and crowded inside so I felt uncomfortable as soon as we walked in. The table was so small our meal over crowded it and we had to set our drinks on the edge of the half wall next to us. The service was OK once the waitress finally came over. It was busy so she gets a break but waiting 15 min or more had us about to walk out. Then she«forgot» to put our steak order in so we finished our app and then waited another 15 – 20 mins for our entrée. We got more attention from the lady who worked carry outs then our own waitress. The steak itself which is why people eat here(I guess) tasted great but was so thin. You order by ounce and we ordered on the larger side of the scale. It was a large steak but thin. I expected it to be like an inch thick at least. The baked potato is huge! I ended up being full and took it home and ate it for dinner the next day. Everything you add on cost extra of course but there are several add on items. Over all would I go back. Yes. One more time at least to give them another try. It was good food, mediocre service and over priced. You might have better luck at Texas Roadhouse.

Capers will always be on my thumbs up list. They cook your steak as requested and get it right the first time. The servers are friendly and very detailed. Comfy environment and atmosphere. Cajun bites and fried cauliflower are my favorite appetizers.

I’m going to need to go against popular opinion here and state that this place is just not that good. Capers was recommended to me by a friend who frequents the finer steakhouses and eateries in the Detroit area, so naturally, I was excited to give it a try. I’m assuming this place gets most of their business by word-of-mouth, given the divey exterior and unassuming façade. We arrived at 7:30pm on a Wednesday, and the outside was quiet, but upon walking in, the place was pretty well stocked with people. Fortunately, there were a couple of tables still free, so our party of four was seated right away. Between the four of us, we ordered two filets, an order of lamp chops, and a cheeseburger. All were requested at medium-rare. 30 minutes later, the food arrived. My filet was cooked barely to rare, and both filets were funky cuts of meat…¼ of the meat was tendons/fatty residue. I tried to chew through most of it, but the sucker simply wouldn’t break down. The lamb chops were surprisingly thin, and cooked well, rather than medium-rare. Maybe it was an off-night for the cooks, but the hype was not justified, and Caper’s will not likely see my business in the near future.

We have been to Capers several times, including last weekend because a good steak sounded nice. They have excellent steaks and the«by the ounce» pricing allows you to customize your dining experience. I ordered an 8 ounce filet, prepared medium and was presented with exactly what I ordered. We also ordered a french onion soup which was simply fantastic as well. The salad bar is fresh and well stocked with a variety of veggies, cheeses and rich salad dressings. The a la carte nature of the menu is really nice, but portions are huge! It is entirely possible to share a baked potato or order of fries with a dining companion. Another delicious treat on the menu is Janina’s cheesecake. It is a soft cheesecake, evocative of Peteet’s or Lucki’s cheesecake with a graham cracker crust that I swear is drizzled with amaretto. Skip the strawberries on top, but definitely order the cheesecake. We have always been fortunate and have been seated right away and had great, attentive servers. The gentleman servers we have had even shake my husband’s hand and thank him for his business on the way out. Overall, this is a great, relaxed place to enjoy a delicious steak without a side of pretension. I highly recommend this restaurant for a date night or meal out with friends

I had one of the best steaks of my life at Capers. It’s not much to look at from the outside, and hell, the same goes for the inside. But the steaks. My god. The steaks. You just can’t find better quality steaks within $ 15 of what you’ll pay here. As someone else mentioned, this isn’t a fancy place. There were only two servers on a busy Saturday afternoon with a line out the door. But what they do in the kitchen, they do very well. We started with two crocks of French onion soup. Excellent, with plenty of cheese. We each ordered a steak — a Delmonico for me and a fillet for him. Jacob also ordered their macaroni salad as a side. We didn’t wait long for our entrees. Our steaks were prepared just as we asked and were expertly seasoned. The macaroni side was boring, so I’d skip it next time. I savored every bite of my steak, though, and Jacob did as well. Our bill was only $ 34 for two big steaks, two crocks of tasty soup, some garlic bread and macaroni salad. I think Capers is a fine establishment with a good thing going on. Everyone should visit at least once in their life. I can’t wait to go back.

As with all things in life, there are tradeoffs to be considered. Yes, Capers offers dirt-cheap steaks, and yes: they’re pretty darned good for what they are. *No one* would try to tell you that what Capers offers is as good as(or even the same as), say, a 28-day dry-aged steak you’d be able to get at, say, Lelli’s in Auburn Hills. It’s not, and you can’t expect anything of the sort. For $ 6.50 for a 10 oz. Delmonico, you’re going to get fresh, pretty well-trimmed steak, prepared properly, if sparingly. Everything else is extra, and still very affordable. Your steak will fit the bill of one that will quash your need for a decent steak. The tradeoffs come in things like wait times(which can be very long… I waited over an hour tonight, on my feet, quite cold), tight quarters, and a no-frills atmosphere. This is not a special occasion kind of place, but fair is fair: they work very hard, they’re not advertising themselves as being a special occasion kind of place, and they’re absolutely not pricing themselves as a special occasion kind of place. I happened to very much enjoy my first experience. It required a good deal of patience in waiting, and I’m not sure that I’d go out of my way to come here on any given day, but if I was nearby, and had a hankering for steak, this place qualifies. It’s better than«A-OK», but I wouldn’t say it’s «As Good As It Gets», either. No doubt about it, though: the price is absolutely stellar. No complaints, no regrets.

Finally made it here after several years of wanting to go. It did not disappoint. When we arrived, it looked pretty old school and somewhat diner-ish. It feels like a place where I would expect to see green Jello in a cooler covered with plastic wrap. I like these kind of places. We entered, only to find that we were about 12th in line for a table. We decided to wait it out. The line moves fast, so we invested about 10 minutes waiting. As we were being seated, we were offered choice of any open table, so far so good. Right as we sat down, we were greeted by the server. «It’s our first time». She explained how the«by the ounce» steak system works and to be aware of the massive baked potatoes. We ordered 2 Delmonico(8 oz and 12 oz), split a baked potato, garlic Texas toast, and we started off with a bowl of French onion soup. One negative that I noticed is that soft drinks are 5.95, but it is what it is. Jokingly, I said it was my girlfriends birthday to the server, and half the tables started cheering and giving wishes. One lady looked at me and said get her a «Shady Lady», so I did. It has to be a 32 or 42 ounces daiquiri, which she loved. Even with me helping it was a lot to drink. The soup came out quickly and wasn’t too salty. Tons of cheese and croutons and it was piping hot. I’d come back just for this soup. Our steaks, potato, and toast followed quickly. It’s been so long that I’ve had a meal that was just great from beginning to end but they did it. Considering all the food and drinks, our bill came to 47.00. Really good deal. Monday and Thursday are discount days, and I’m sure I’ll be back.

I have had the opportunity to come to Capers a few times in the past and always passed it up. Mainly because of the location. Biggest mistake I’ve ever made!!! This place has the best steaks I’ve ever experienced by far. They’re cooked to order, and have awesome variety. Almost everyday they have a different steak on sale per oz. as well! I will reccomend Capers to anyone that even MENTIONS the word steak from now on. I give Capers a 5 out of 5.
