Downtown Detroit suffers from a lack of quality Chinese carryout, with most spots barely passing the edible test. Top China One is the exception. The food is fresh, fast and consistently good. The sauces are above average, with the exception of the sauce they use for the sesame/orange/general tso. Avoid these dishes and you’ll have a good experience. The fried rice is okay but not great, still better than average for the city. My favorite dishes are the Thai Chicken(fried and spicy), Hunan Beef or Chicken(stir fry with garlic brown sauce), Singapore Rice Noodle(rice noodle combination with curry), Almond Boneless Chicken(all white meat, great gravy) and the Moo Go Gai Pan(Chicken and mixed veggi tables in white wine sauce). Do yourself a favor and upgrade to a shrimp egg roll and get a cup of wonton or hot and sour soup.

Favorite American-style Chinese place in the area hands down. Sweet and Sour sauce is great, chicken is always moist. Sesame chicken is also delicious — I get them together in a combo so I can have a little of each. Been told the Szechuan chicken is good as well but have nothing to compare it to Fried rice has never been dry and has assorted fresh veggies in it. Pretty good eggroll Very nice staff — once they forgot the sauce for my sweet and sour chicken and instead of having us drive back I asked if they could have the delivery guy bring it when he goes out again and he dropped it off free of charge as a one-time favor

For one… I was paying by credit card over the phone… They asked for my billing address, my billing zip code, my card #, my expectation, my security code… I work in a restaurant… We never ask for all that… You don’t need all that to run a credit card. I reported them to the police, and even they said thet should not ask all that info… BEWARE!!!

Food is always FRESH. I now can’t order anywhere else w/o being disappointed. Fast service. Good deal for lunch $ 5.25. I luv this place. Since the construction parking sucks but I think it’s a lot in back but not sure since we usually walk.

First time trying and last time ever. Find your food elsewhere, this is not good. My favorite Asian dish is Orange Beef, spicy and sweet. However, there is Beef in the title so there should be beef in the dish… but it is was mostly fat! Disgusting balls of fried fat. The vegetable fried rice was not good either and the egg rolls tasted like pre-packaged frozen. As I told the order taker, «I will never eat your food again».

I am extremely picky when it comes to Chinese food. I rarely get it and when I do, I’m rarely impressed but I must say that’s not the case with this place. The food tasted clean & fresh. Had the pork lo mein & Hunan chicken. A friend picked it up so I can’t comment on the cleanliness of the place. This is a new location, as there’s a lot of confusion as to which Chinese restaurant is which? It’s so nice to know I can finally get good Chinese food downtown; after 20 years of living here! Fyi– the actual name of this place is Top China One.

Hidden Chinese food gem in Midtown. Have gotten take out twice so far and very impressed! Quick service and friendly staff. Highly recommend the sesame chicken with friend rice, grilled bourbon chicken and make sure to throw in a order of ragoons.

While G was on lunch break from the DSO, we met at Top China 1. It’s your ordinary Chinese restaurant with typical Chinese items. One thing that they have is a «buffet to go.» It’s only to go, so you only get one plate. It’s only $ 4.25 for one item and $ 6 for two items with fried rice. I ended up just ordering off the menu. I had chicken and broccoli with fried rice. G had shrimp and broccoli with fried rice. To be honest, it was pretty much what you would expect, no better, no worse. The fried rice was good, as was the broccoli. The chicken was not too great in my opinion. My fortune cookie did say that luck was headed my way. I am in a sweepstake for $ 7,000 or $ 250,000. Maybe I’ll win this summer!

This used to be a buffet with a large dining room. I ate at the buffet a few times. It was decent enough. Now, it is a take out only place. You order at a counter. Frankly, I can’t bring myself to place an order anymore. It is too dirty for me.

This place is exactly as you would think upon entering. Cheap Chinese food, lots of msg and grease. Not a date place by any means but after a few beers… would hit the spot. I ordered Veggie low mein and a few spring rolls. The spring rolls are deep fried and were ice cold in the center. The low mein tasted like the prior 5 meals that were cooked in the wok. They have a $ 5 credit card minimum. However he only charged me 3 for the meal. So I can’t complain too much. There are better bad Chinese joints out there that I would rather frequent.

Food is cheap. It is good. Take it out. Try not to look around. They need to clean a little better. I try not to think it would effect the food when waiting. A little wet mop and glass cleaner could go a long way in this place. Their Crab Ragoons(as of Summer 2011) are the best. You get 6 for $ 3.00 and have the most filling I have seen in a small and cheap Chinese food restaurant.

This is NOT a buffet. It is a take out, not sure why it is listed this way. With that said, the food and portions are great and very well priced. Dont plan on eating there, it is small, dirty and dank.

My favorite Detroit chinese! If you read through a lot of the reviews of chinese restaurants there is one common theme– its dirty. Not this place. Im not saying that its a five star restaurant with fancy white swan napkins but I also don’t want to run away when i enter the place. To truly explain the four stars I will admit that I am an avid fan of Chinese/American food. This place will give you everything you expect and crave from bread-fried chicken and msg sauces. The prices are great soon. Whether you’re studying late or too tired after work to cook this is a great place to turn.

For those of us who work in Midtown, it’s hard to beat the convenience factor. Plus, they’re open well into the evening. Just don’t expect anything amazing. But that’s not why you get food at a place like this right? You just want quick and cheap Chinese food. You’re craving that MSG kick from the chow mein or that General Tso’s chicken with too much sauce or the greasy fried rice that’s a little dry. Look, it’s not a bad place. Just be honest with yourself about why you’re going there.
