I’ve been going to Gibb’s for about 15 years. The knowledge of the staff is light years beyond other stores in the immediate area. They’ve all been in the wine business for decades. They have a huge selection, and are willing to work with you to find something that’s to your liking. They always have a handful of carefully selected bottles in the $ 8 – 15 range that provide incredible value. Best thing about it is how patient the staff is and wiling to educate the novice wine enthusiast. I learn something new every time I visit. Try having them assemble a mixed case for you during one of their sales. It’s a good value and they’ll take the time to understand what you enjoy and help you explore wines you might not otherwise try.

I was home for Christmas and brought to the family dinner a bottle of Moscato d’Asti for us all to enjoy. I got it at an inner city Liquor and WIne store on 8 Mile where the alcohol is kept behind 5 inches of plexiglass like its fine jewelry or something. Anywho… everyone loved the wine so much, to include my mom who doesn’t drink wine. After our prodding, she sampled the wine and fell in love with it. Since then, she has been on a daily mission to find the wine, but didn’t feel comfortable going into a Liquor store to get it. So I went online and found a few wine shops for her. Gibbs was at the top of the list. I told her she would probably have a good chance of finding the wine there. She went there today. She calls me on her way home. She told me the man, Dick Goethals, according to his business card, who was working behind the counter was very nasty to her, so unpleasant that she felt uncomfortable asking him questions about the wine as a novice drinker. I see why he’s named Dick. He was so nasty, she left. Based upon my mother’s feedback of this place and the reviews left here, I wouldn’t step foot into Gibb’s World Wide Wines if they were the last wine store on Planet earth. THEYSUCK!!!

Major fail. I can’t say I’ve been here any time recently, but they get a bad rating due to the one time I went there 3 years ago. It was 6 months after I’d turned 21 and I was planning to purchase a bottle of wine for my bf’s uncle for Christmas. I chose Gibb’s simply because I work pretty close to it. I go there and pick out my wine and take it to the cashier. I had him my state ID and my credit card. He looks at it for 2 seconds before rejecting it without any explanation other than«We don’t take state id’s.» So I had to go get a co-worker to get the wine for me, and they explained on my second trip that it’s management’s prerogative and they don’t have to accept my id if they don’t want to. I call b.s., but there’s nothing I can do about it. Nobody has ever rejected my state id(save for Ruth’s Chris, who decided my interim id didn’t count) before, and none since. Tell me: How is it smart to reject the person who legally CAN’T drink and drive? Oh sure, you can sell all you want to dumbarses who can get into accidents after drinking, but you can’t sell to the one person who isn’t allowed to do that? Ridiculous. I don’t know if they changed their policy or not, but I was so angry that I refused to go back and find out. I still won’t, and I’m 24. My state ID(yep, still have one) gets me into bars all the time, lets me make purchases at restaurants, etc. At Gibb’s? I get nothing.
