Very poor drip coffee. Either it was re-warmed from yesterday or they are using robusta beans.

Walk through Greektown one Sunday morning I stumbled across Krema. It didn’t seem very exciting in general but I went in because of the baked goods in the window. Holy cow!!! The bagels are fanastic and doughy and the cheese bread thing with the egg on it was worth driving back to Detroit again for. Coffee and tea was pretty low quality but who cares. Prices were so cheap too!

Wanting to feed my inner fat kid I brought my girl down here to grab a doughnut after introducing her to Lafayette Coney Island for a coney dog breakfast, before hitting Sister Pie. We dropped in and looked over the limited selection of Kremnuts. I saw one lonely Raspberry and had to scoop it up. We also had them box up a Crème Brulee doughnut. We took them home and sliced them up, and again, I was bummed out. $ 8 for two doughnuts… seriously?! And this is the quality I get?! The raspberry doughnut was likely from the day before. It was dry and tough and actually cracked in half as I cut into it. Not a good sign! The filling was great but there wasn’t much of it. The crème brulee variety was A LOT fresher! I liked the white chocolate shavings and the powdered sugar on top, and the crackly sugary fried skin of the pastry was really nice. But the dough… still a little tough. The custard was great but besides being a good marketing gimmick I didn’t really get any actual crème brulee flavor. Leave it to Astoria to inflate your expectations and their prices. Maybe I should’ve known better than buying the last Raspberry Kremnut on the rack OR maybe they shouldn’t be selling day old doughnuts for $ 4 a piece. We came at like 11 am so for all intents and purposes both of these pastries should have been super fresh compared to what we received and the prices here are incredibly ridiculous!!! That’s $ 48 a dozen folks, although I’m sure they offer a deal if you can actually afford to buy a dozen. I would stop in to try the gelato and maybe an actual fresh doughnut, if I was walking by again, but Dutch Girl has me covered just fine.

We stopped in on Sunday! Gals working were great! Polite, helpful! I bought 2 Cronuts, great for fresh, not so great nest day, yogurt gelato excellent but $ 9.95 for large which is not that big. I was really looking forward to that chicken pot pie… tried eating last night to find it sour tasting. I threw it out. It was bad, but looked so good. So disappointed!!!

This place is just a few doors down from Astoria and when we get the chance to go to Greektown we usually go into both pastry shops. Get the cream brûlée! They run out pretty quick, the Nutella was delicious too! They also have cute little packaging.

It’s nice to have another place serving gelato in the Detroit area, but I was really disappointed by Krema’s. Came in on a Friday evening, which you’d think is when you’d have the freshest gelato, but it just wasn’t very good… almost a chewy sort of consistency. Definitely not as creamy or smooth as gelato should be. The place gives off a hipstery sort of vibe that’s just not consummate with the taste of the actual product.

whoa — im so glad I do not live close to this place. My hubby and I always share one of their donuts — but I could def eat a few by myself! We usually get the the crème brûlée — so good. small quaint location!

A sweet place(literally). Came here just to try their kremnut! My friend and I had the strawberry kremnut and nutella kremnut. Both had lots of filling that would just ooze out within one bite. Disappointed that they were out of crêpe mix and we did not have time to wait for them to make it. My friend tried the cheesecake gelato, we give it an okay because it had blueberry which we’re not a big fan of.

I am NOT a fan. I tried a raspberry Kremnut, took a few bites and threw it away. First of all, it was soooo hard and not soft at all. Biting into it was tough. Second, it was dripping with grease which was super disgusting. Third, a mess. The raspberry was coming out everywhere and the top was sticky with raspberry jam. I was so disgusted by the taste and texture and entire Cronut. And at $ 3.95 a piece, what a rip off. I wasted $ 4 on this! I’m bummed because I was excited to try upon hearing about this place. Another reviewer mentioned he bought one at the end of the day, as did I, so maybe that is the issue, but ew…

I was a few days late celebrating National Doughnut Day but a trip to Krema was worth the wait. Owned by Astoria Bakery a few doors down so if you’re a fan of them or if you like things creamy and sweet this place is definitely for you. They have a number of sweet offerings including gelato and Greek pastries like bougatsa(a custard-filled, phyllo-wrapped pastry served warm) and loukamathes(honey soaked pastry balls) as well as savory pastries(spinach and cheese pies) and crepes. But the star of the show is the Kremnut(their take on the cronut). Offered in several flavors and fillings it does make making a decision real hard! When I was there I got several to go for my fiancé and I try at home. I selected the coconut cream, crème brûlée, and the custard and all were good but my favorite of the three was the custard. The doughnut is covered in powdered sugar and stuffed with a thick, rich, eggy custard. The dough, since it’s made from croissant pastry, is buttery and soft but it did remind me more of a paczki than a traditional cronut in texture and flavor(which I’ve had previously from Crust in Fenton and Patisserie Amie in Traverse City). But that’s not a bad thing for this Polish girl. Take a bite and you know that this thing is a calorie bomb but it’s so worth it. Liked it enough that I would definitely go back again but I don’t know that I’m craving it like I do some desserts. Would like to come back again to try the gelato, some of the traditional Greek pastries, or a crêpe for sure.

They apparently bring one batch of doughnuts in the morning for the entire day meaning they’re not even made fresh in store. I tried the caramel doughnut and it was later in the day. It was warmed up but still you could tell it was old and stale and GREAZY as all hell. I took one bite, cringed and tossed the thing. What blew my mind was I got there after dinner and not only was there an EXTREMELY limited amount of doughnuts to choose from(literally 3) but the ice cream area was empty, and the girls working really only had drinks to offer. What’s the point of advertising doughnuts and ice cream when neither is available after 1? Oh and the saddest part of all, was that the two girls working at the time were expected to stay til 11pm! I told them they could tell their boss he’s dumb because not only would the place stay empty all night, but any patron desperate enough to come in that late would have nothing to buy anyway! TL;DR if you’re going to be planning on staying open all day, replenish your stock and have something more than 3 stale doughnuts to choose from.

The Kremnuts were great from here! I’m only giving it four stars because they do not have a huge offering, but I think that is partially the point. I had the crème brûlée kremnut and the apple spice kremnut. The crème brûlée was absolutely delicious and filled. You can taste the fried goodness. It was good, but I think I prefer the variety of Astoria. Worth checking out though and reasonably priced!

Hell yeah. We tried the ‘raspberry’, ‘crème brûlée’ and ‘nutella’ cronut. On point, lots of nice textures and flavours. Coffee drinks were inventive and solid. They have lots of fun stuff in this little join, italian sodas and gelato. I have a lotta love for Munroe, here’s to more good things to come!

We had a great first-time experience here! The servers were so friendly and enthusiastic, letting us(insisting, in fact) try every single flavor of their delicious home-made gelato. We will definitely be back! Cute coffee bar and pastry shop as well, it looks like, but we only went for the gelato. Try it!

Today I had the Nuttella Kremnut. It was the most delicious thing I’ve ever ate. The Kremnut was crispy, soft, airy, flaky, and sweet. It’s not overly sweet. There was a very thick layer of Nuttella on the top, I would prefer a little less. I was surprised how big they are totally worth the price! I also had a sample of the Armenia cheesecake gelato. Just give it a try. Trust me.

Came here after a DIA date. Try the hazelnut and the dark chocolate gelato together– it tastes like Nutella but way better. I would come back just for that. They are very generous with letting you try samples of the gelato. The powdered sugar kremnut was pretty good but the texture was not as flaky and a bit more dense than I expected. The Greek/Turkish coffee was kind of bitter and I’ve definitely had better. Id come back to try the crème brûlée kremnut.

I’ve been waiting for cronuts to come to Detroit!!! However, come here with low expectations and extra emphasis on this next sentence: this is Detroit/Astoria/Krema’s interpretation of a cronut.(It’s technically a «kremnut».) I was so excited that I ordered 6 cronuts to split with the bf! 2 each of strawberry, crème brûlée, and nutella. The strawberry is my fave, and although I loooooove nutella, there was just too much Nutella for me. I think the intentions are good, but the execution was just poor. The dough is more donut-y than croissant-y(think thick, donut-like layers in a croissant-esque fashion). The kremnut was heavy, and IMO, only the strawberry filling nicely complemented the dough. I don’t see myself coming back for cronuts unless the dough recipe changes. It’s worth a try once though if you’ve never tried a cronut… and also for the coffee and bc they offer gelato. And also, great service from Lancelle, and he makes an awesome cappuccino. 2 stars for cronut, 4 for the coffee and Lancelle — 3 overall.

Tried the Nutella and crème brûlée kremnuts at Krema in Greektown. The flavors were good, but I can’t help but wonder if the textures could be improved by warming up the pastries before being served. The Greek coffee had the perfect hint of sweetness and didn’t even need cream.

3.5 stars really… could be 4 if I sampled more gelato. Detroit finally has its own«Cronut» and its at Krema! About time we caught up to NYC and LA right? Krema comes to Detroit by way of Astoria Bakery and Red Smoke BBQ and they get a B+ for trying. The space is small but its meant to be quaint for you to enjoy your coffee and donut, or in this case latte and Kremnut. I’ve had cronuts in Cali many times before and for those who don’t know(it should be added to the Webster dictionary already. Or a food compendium!) is a croissant dough stamped out in circular form and fried. So those thousand layer, airy and flaky pastry yields a crunch with sprinkled sugar falling all over your lap. It’s quite good when done right. But that’s exactly it. It has to be done right. I applaud Krema for trying but their dough is rather thick and eggy and tasting more like… hmm…a heavy fried custardy(in terms of egg flavor) paczki? I didn’t try any of the cronuts sold at Astoria Bakery, b/c well, let’s face it, Astoria doesn’t do it for me. All their cakes and baked goods taste like cardboard, or are stale and bland or overly sweet. Besides the cool NY name, that’s it. SO when Krema opened up, I wanted to give them a try. I think Krema could work when their Kremnut’s come fresh out of the fryer and are warm but once sitting out, they harden and stale much like a french fry. Latte’s and coffee beans are not local but change daily. Yesterday we had Kona coffee latte’s and they were actually good! No special latte art here guys. Their gelato’s were amazing! Free samples and the salted caramel was my fave(and I don’t like salted caramel!). Not gonna lie, I wanted to get a scoop of gelato on top of my Krema for a Kremnut a la mode but that would just make me look like pig huh? Loukoumades are fried Greek Donuts soaked in a sugar syrup or honey and cinnamon and these looked heavenly in the window. Remindeded me of Indian Gulab Jamun balls that are my fave. I’ll definitely be back to try these! And yes, if you want savory, there’s greek pastries too(Spanikopita much?). Definitely a place to try when in Greektown. I imagine coming back with a scoop or two of Gelato while walking around town. p. s. the only thing I’d change? Metal utensils to help cut those Kremnuts in half! Its hard to do so with plastic utensils(hence my point on how thick and dry the Kremnut was).

BEHOLD! The Kremnut! The owners of Astoria Pastry shop opened a chic café next door to their original big Kahuna on Monroe in Greektown… Run there –don’t walk– now! While the Cronut is SO2013, their spin on the pastry is one of the best versions I’ve ever had(Sorry, Dominique Ansel!) They put their Greek touch into making the most marvelous textured donut. it’s crispy on the edges, soaked with a(presumably) greek honey glaze. with layers of pastry, elating the height of the delicious donut with a light airy texture, but maintaining a lush chewy bite. And. they’re filled with fresh, luscious pastry cream! Not only are they gorgeous to look at – these creations come in awesome varieties: Strawberry, Lemon Meringue, Chocolate glazed, Sprinkles. We loved the Crème Brûlée Kremnut. it had this great crust & toasty caramel flavor.(very reminiscent of Doughnut Plant NYC’s version: ) Their coffee bar is top notch, using really high quality roasted beans– with a talented barista who knew her way around the machine! In the back of the shop you’ll find a great big case of gelato! We sampled a few flavors– and were really impressed. The lemon was zesty & refreshing. the Greek yogurt & Cherry Cheesecake were both SO amazingly creamy & delightful. We look forward to coming here this summer, especially as it’s only 3 blocks from our apartment! The beautiful window(that originally drew us in) boasted of traditional greek pastries– both savory & sweet. Loukamathes(crispy, honey-soaked dough balls) glistened in the sunshine, alongside trays of lobster claw pastries, fresh spinach pie & their spin on quiche. I suggested they throw some of these dynamite looking kremnuts out there… Any passerby on fleek with culinary trends will know what’s up & want to wander in! It’s very exciting that this cool little café opened up. It’s definitely a cooler, breezier vibe than Astoria .and with word of these incredible kremnuts going around, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a queue outside real soon.
