Classmate recommended this place suggesting different menu items. «They have good burgers»…so I tried one. No. No. No. Pre made patty, I asked the guy if they were the frozen patties, he responds«I think so yeah». Yikes. It was a patty for one and not fresh for two. I usually do not send food back but I was not going to eat that. I got a calzone which was decent. Prices are not the best, service was definitely not impressive and food ehh

The manager in this place is insane! He’s also a hot tempered person. Not cool! Personally I will never go there again unless that guy leaves or gets fired. Bad people that one is

Recently got a great selection of beer on draft. Parking can be tough. But its not a problem if you live in the building. Food is par for bar food.

Normally an ok place. But I waited 30 mins for a beer while the 2 bartenders sat and ate pizza with their friends. Do Lefty’s employees work or just hang out? Generally I’m more than a gracious tipper but this the ONLY time I have never tipped. Might be a while before I go back unfortunately.

Stood at the bar with 1 guy eating while I wait for help. A total of 4 people walked up and between the 1 girl and 1 guy that was working each time asked the other people did they need help while I waited patiently. After ordering 2 pizzas 1 hours apart they told me that they’re running low on napkins and that they gave us enough with the first pizza, mind you there was 20 of us. Never will go here again.

Reasons why you shouldn’t go here: No, its not because of our inattentive server who did homework in the corner as I watched our salad sit in the window. Who, never once pre-bussed our table. Who, did not bring dressing with the salad and was un-informed as to what dressings they had. Who, I had to find to let her know we would like another beer. It’s not because of the terrible kitchen. Who pumps out terrible food(a Greek salad that was more like a black olive salad. An overpriced salty nacho). Who makes you wait 20 minutes for a nacho made incorrectly but then 2 minutes to re-make it(no they were not busy). No it’s definitely not cause of the terrible service, sub-par food, or horrible and overpriced food that you should not go here. You should not go here because there are several dozen other places downtown that are far, FAR better. If your a Wayne state student, get an über, taxi, or DD and find your way elsewhere.

Went here for lunch with some friends. They had a decent selection of draft beer at good prices. The pizza was decent… not great but decent. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Inattentive bartender focused on her friends on the other side of the bar made for this first visit to be the last. They have a patio and ample seating. It is a dive bar. If you are looking for a friendly, welcoming spot for spirits or a beer then go somewhere else.

I met a cool guy named Juan who was dealing with a bruised heart from his woman. I told him I was from Cleveland and he wanted to show me some decent bars around the neighborhood. We talked about a variety of issues from social services, community development, relationships, Wu-Tang Clan, the eastern portion of the state being pro-union vs the more conservative west and Mexican food to name a few topics. Juan was a great person and a heck of an ambassador for the city. There was karaōke on a Friday night and plenty of drunk college kids.

Despite the 3-star average, I found this place worthy of 4-stars: «Yay! I’m a fan.» Lefty’s is located right across the street from Wayne State University. The beer is cold and the pizza was decent… then again while drinking, one can rarely have pizza that DOESN’T go well with it. Fun environment, had plenty of TVs surrounding to watch the sports games on TV! I can easily recommend and would come back to Lefty’s for drinks and pizza(have to say that I am not quite sure about the rest of the food here though).

A low-end sports bar that caters to the WSU student crowd. Nothing about the atmosphere is impressive or really makes one want to stick and hang around. And especially not when, at 28, I feel like the elder of the joint. The food’s decent and bartender Katie can make a mean gummi bear drink(for real — tastes like a clear gummi bear!). But I would never come here unless I had a specific reason to.

The black walls, ceiling, and floor give the impression this establishment must need to be hosed down with chemical at the end of the night, much like Bourbon St. A dive bar with no character whatsoever, which is in line with the Belcrest in which it resides. What could be an amazing bar with prime location on Cass in the Cultural Center, this sportsy-divey-crappy place looks like some college kids put it together over spring break. There is no honor here. The pizza is sort of okay. If you are a hardened alcoholic and no other place will allow you on the premises any longer, then by all means enjoy a nice event at Lefty’s. If you have any sense of dignity or self-worth, patronize any of Detroit’s other more affable and charming dive bars for your mind altering substance needs.

No real reason to ever set foot in here when Circa 1890 is just a few feet away. The food’s way better than the greasy grub they offer up here. There’s TVs offering multiple sporting events at Circa now if it’s a rare occasion where I want to catch a game. And the atmosphere at Circa is much more weirdo-friendly than the Dudebro Central at Lefty’s. Set in a cool old historic apartment building, it’s a shame Lefty’s doesn’t have more character. The service ain’t too good either. The best part about Lefty’s is leaving!

Tuesday night; nothing special. The place is good to put a few beers back with friends while watching the game. It definitely has a college atmosphere; without the crowd you would experience at a larger campus since the bar is located at the heart of Wayne State University, a commuter university. If you come here with realistic expectations you will enjoy your time here. On another note, I’ve had the food here a while back and from what I remember, the food is typical bar food.

I want to not complain, because I want to like this place. This is my second afternoon stop off here. Both times I came intending to enjoy the dimly lit atmosphere charged with a Detroit attitude. But I don’t know, something irks me that you can’t tell the waitresses apart from the wild pack of Wayne State hipsters milling about unless they are behind the bar, and the fact that even before 3pm both times I’ve come here the place has been a throbbing club atmosphere full of rowdy drunk college folk. I get it, it’s a bar… There ought to be rowdy drunk people. I especially wanted to like my experience because the waitress was very very sweet. I wasn’t expressing how much I hated all of the people partying at the bar, but she validated it when she said she couldn’t wait for them to leave. To be fair, the last time I had gone there, it was quiet. What really seals my judgment is that the food is a little pricey compared to other campus options and the things I’ve ordered were subpar at best. Plus, I noticed towards the end of my visit that they were currently undergoing an inspection, which prompted me to look up the public health inspection records of this place. My, my… what a nauseating experience. From their inability to clean equipment to standard to the dirty soda nozzles — that explains the funky Diet Coke aftertaste. Teeming with bacteria, I’m sure. They did seem to be concerned about what they read on the report left with them. A person dressed like everyone else walked the employees around addressing some of the things I assume were write-ups on their inspection. It is reassuring to see that… but honestly? One of the items was that they don’t properly refrigerate some of the food. Gross! I think I will come back here when I recheck the inspection records in a year or so to see if they have been corrected. Until then, I’ll get my greasy awful pizza somewhere else. Epicurious down the road his pretty good pizza and the guys who work there have left a much better impression on me, personally.

Great spot to catch a game. Good beer specials and tons of TVs with the MLB package so access to all games. Been there twice and both times have enjoyed good conversations with bartender and clientele. Friday karaōke was fun as well. Only minor complaint is that service can be a bit slow sometimes. Bartender friendly and laid back so maybe thats why. UPDATE: this bartender no longer there so now service may be better

When dcd was in its early days, we held one of our first events there. It was nice but not spectacular. I picked a few items off the menu I thought the I thought the guests would like after the urgency to have an event there was expressed by a detroit synergy member. They put us in a back room which I did not like. The service was decent, food decent, beer selection not bad. We cashed out and left. The dcd is pretty much dormant these days as I have moved out of state. I have returned a few times though, since. Similar experiences to my first visits there: food ok, service ok, prices ok, pizza ok. No big deal. I am glad there is one more stable establishment in Detroit.

The beer is good and the food is decent for basic pub grub, not overly greasy or expensive at all, but the service is S-L-O-W. It’s not a huge deal since it’s a sport’s bar and the atmosphere is laid back, but they seemed pretty uninterested in checking up on people. I came in with my boyfriend because we were looking for wifi on a Sunday afternoon so we could work, and they have free wifi so that is super awesome. It’s not a horrible place for this considering it’s a sport’s bar, so if I’m looking to have a few beers while getting some work done(don’t worry clients it’s not YOUR work I’m doing while drinking), it’s a good place. The food/beer was average and I’d probably consider giving it 4 stars if the service was better.

Lefty’s is fine for beer, and a pretty good place to watch sports. And, after all, those are the two main things that a sports bar should offer, right? The staff is kind and helpful — quick on the beer but not necessarily on the food. The food is secondary, though. It’s OK pub food — better than Chili’s or some other places, and not as greasy as a lot of sports bars. However, the food isn’t probably what’s going to get you in the door. I had to find a quiet place to work one afternoon. Although you wouldn’t think of a sports bar as fitting the bill, Lefty’s did. It was a quiet mid-afternoon and a sparse crowd, so it actually ended up a perfect spot, and a shift from my normal other haunts. Added points to the staff for helping us tune in the Detroit episode of No Reservations on their big TV in the back! :) I’m not in a hurry to return, but if I was looking for a good beer selection and a place to watch some sports near Wayne State, it would be the first place that would come to mind.

So my friends and I have been frequenting Lefty’s Lounge for about a year. More recently, we’ve been going at least once a week for Wednesday trivia night. Their food is pretty good and they have decent prices. But the wait staff has been less than desirable. Well last week I found out it’s because(what I believe to be) the management is useless. Despite us being regulars, they’ve always had a problem treating us as such: taking extra long to serve us, taking care of other people first and the like. But we continued to go. So last Wednesday I reached my limit. Long story short, we got there around 9pm, had to flag a waitress to get our water about 20 minutes after that and I left before everyone else finally saw some food after 10. I didn’t think I would be spending anymore money there after that. The day after, thought became reality. Since everyone was meeting up at Lefty’s to watch the game tonight, I decided I’d watch it with them since I was already downtown. However, I had eaten already. So even if I did decide to break the promise I had made 24 hours earlier, a filled stomach allowed me to stick to my guns. I got there at 8pm before everyone else and secured a table. The waiter, who i think was one of the owners and waiting on the whole lounge, asked if I wanted anything. I declined and said I was waiting for the rest of my party to arrive. So my friend Jon came through the door next. He then ordered about $ 12 worth of food. While on his second helping, Raul strolls in. He orders a burger and Coke. So I decided I would like a water and so did they. Here’s where the hijinks begin. I saw the owner/waiter come towards me and I asked him if we could get waters. He said«I’ll get you a water,» subtly pointing to Jon. He comes back with Raul’s Coke and a single water for Jon. So the owner/waiter goes around helping other people for about 15 minutes before I ask him again. I didn’t see it, but apparently as he walked back to the kitchen he waved me off. So he comes back with one more water for Raul. Raul tells him I need one when the owner/waiter flies off the proverbial handle. Allow me to paraphrase: «No. He’s been here all night and didn’t order anything. So he doesn’t get any water.» For real?! You won’t give me a glass of the most abundant resource on the entire planet because I, for once, didn’t buy any of your artery cloggification? Third day in a row I’ve been there, and I need to buy something for you to hand me something that costs you nothing?! EN-CRAY-AH-BLUH! I don’t really care if you still go back after reading this, but you won’t see me anymore. But be warned, the food is NOT good enough to deal with their inability to treat you like a customer instead of a burden. It’s as if they feel it’s a privilege for you to come eat their grease and don’t have to do anything to earn it. Well that’s not how it works friends. Try not to severe your spine when you finally get your head out of your ass. PS As Jenny J. stated, Lefty’s Lounge DOES have nice, clean bathrooms. So they apparently make sure to counteract that with pissy attitudes.
