I went to Mitch’s twice within one week. The first time was a Thursday before Memorial Day, so maybe people were already off for the weekend, but there was a nice crowd inside, there was a DJ playing some JAMS and it was a good time. The food menu was simple and cheap. I ordered a turkey burger and was told the grill was down, «but the fryer is up». Diet be damned… give me the wing dings & fries, then. The waitress was either overwhelmed or she was just straight to the point. She asked us one time if we wanted something to drink. We didn’t jump on it then, we said maybe later. Well, she never asked again and right after eating, she quickly gave us the bill(I guess we won’t have a drink) and quickly asked for payment so she could get it over with, I guess. The drinks are expensive. The second time I went in, I asked for a mixed drink and it was like… $ 7. A mixed drink at the casino or at a more upscale place, I can see paying $ 7(I may not want to, but I wouldn’t be surprised)… but at Mitch’s, a $ 7 cocktail gave me sticker shock. I declined it and went with a bud light on tap. It was $ 3, which was reasonable, but it was sooooo FLAT. I don’t think I’ve ever had a beer as flat as that. I took a loss and left it right on the bar. The ladies room is tiny. There is a nice sized parking lot on the side of the bldg. But you might be lucky and find a spot right out front on Grand River. Other than that, it’s a total dive. But it’s a dive that people love. You can tell when you see the cars lined up along Grand River. There are regulars there, mingling, politicing, chopping it up and they are FRIENDLY. They don’t look at you like«what are you doing in MY bar»… they speak, they laugh with you, it’s a really good time.

I was walking by on my way to the motor city hotel and casino when i decided to duck into mitch’s. best decision i made that day. instantly you could tell that the crowd was comprised of locals and that the locals were very friendly. the place is completely unpretentious(unsuitable for NY’ers who live in NJ). they have a kitchen which makes decent bar food. their drinks are well made and the pricing and service is perfect. if you’re in detroit, and want to visit a bar surrounded by detroit residents, go to mitch’s, you won’t be disappointed.

.. . where everybody knows your name. That’s Mitch’s. You can’t help but to have a great time at Mitch’s. I’ve only been on Friday nights and the majority of the crowd are left over from the Friday Happy Hour. By 10pm this place is packed. I swear I hear the best stories in Mitch’s. By 11pm most of what I like to categorize as PPTP(player’s past their prime) are beginning to swarm. The crowd here is always lively and please expect to run into someone you know. A childhood friend, a forgotten cousin. Some one you know is hanging out at Mitch’s. If you’re there by 8pm you’ll get a seat, if not, ladies bring comfortable shoes. The bar service is quick, the drinks are made right and since you’ve been here since after work you can turn it in early and still have had a great night!
