I went a while back and enjoyed being there. The environment was peaceful. I don’t remember who started my locs but she started them with a comb twist. I didn’t really like how they turned out because they felt a bit stiff. I also feel like, given the length of my hair at the time (short as hell), the price was a bit steep. But I paid it because the place came highly recommended.
I’d still recommend the place and I’d even go back, now that I’m restarting my loc journey.

Love this place to pieces! Skilled natural hair technicians made my initial experience one that I’ll share with all who ask. Great customer service! Whenever I’m in Detroit this is the place for my curls =)

I went to Ladonna (she was nice) to get my starter locs (by two strand twists), and this is the BEST salon I’ve ever been to – natural or not. The environment is calm and peaceful, everyone there was friendly and also were classy. Good customer service, and it is clean. They also sell oils, shampoos, conditioners, incense, rose water, etc. I think their prices for service are fair. I have no complaints at all. Wish I had of gone to them much sooner. This will be my regular salon from this point on.

Very Calm and relaxing environment. I came in for a walk-​in appointment and the front desk woman was very polite and helpful. It consisted of an urban feel which made me feel right at home. The only downside is they don’t do sister-​locks which I have, but nonetheless this place is very inviting.

My experience was NOT at all what I had imagined. I came for a consultation and one of the lockticians thoroughly explained the whole process and was patient when figuring out a style for my hair type, and that was also with the price range I was comfortable with. Happily, an appointment was made at the end of my consultation.
Everything was off to a good start. 12:00−2pm was blocked out of both the salon’s and my schedule for ME. There was a nice wash and condition, then back to my seat where the magic was going to happen! Or so I thought. A client who walked in needed a refreshed look for a date she had that evening. This was more important than me, the client that was in the middle of her appointment, and having to actually be at work at 4:00pm. I was asked to get up and sit back in the waiting area until she was complete. This took nearly one hour. This woman, once she was finished getting her hair curled and pinned up, also forgot her money, so she was walked out the back door by the owner, talking and laughing the whole time as if they were old friends. Maybe they were. She returned about 25 minutes later. However, I am a paying client, with (might I add) money in hand and ass in chair.
TOTAL disregard for me and my time. I was truly excited about being a client here. I was hoping that the beginning of my natural hair care journey would be a positive experience. I was looking forward to making this my NHC (natural hair care) home.
I expressed to the locktician my feelings toward what had just happened. And she apologized, and thanked me for being open. She was fair, and did what she had the power to do– verbally console. As she finished my style, she stopped to asked the owner if there was anything they could do for me for the disrespect. Ms. Nefertiti, owner, said «No, give her the regular price», I wish I hadn’t heard her. So the rods that she used to curl my hair, was deducted from the bill. Ten dollars. I left at 3:20.
Being a 1^st timer here, my time and business was disrespected.
What does «scheduled appointment» mean?
I WILL NEVER VISIT THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN.

First off I must say that Tracey at Textures is THA TRUTH! I scheduled an appointment for an up-​do the day before a wedding where I was the Matron of Honor. I was on time for my appointment and Tracy got me right in. She created such a beautiful up-​do in like an hour. I still can’t believe her imagination was so vibrant that day. She whipped these 5 year old Sisterlocks into the best up-​do that I have had. The custom blended oils that she used on my mane were heavenly and made my locs soften immediately. Did I mention the prices were PHENOMENAL!!! I am from the south where they will charge you for anything fancy like what Tracey did for my hair. When I come back to the D she will be the first stop on my itinerary.

This is THE only place I’d go to get my locs maintained. My loctician is Naturel, and I love her work! Although the prices are a bit higher than other locations, here they are using the best product and the salon is located in Midtown, a diverse section of Detroit near Wayne State.
At Textures you can also get specialized loc care with natural services that you won’t find at every salon. Apple cider vinegar rinse is an example for locs that need some TLC…
Other services are eyebrows, nails and massages! I wouldn’t make this stuff up!

Loved my experience! I don’t do hair salons, as a rule, because I’ve had so many less-​than-​stellar experiences. Plus, Detroit doesn’t have a lot of natural haircare salons, just a bunch of African braiding salons.
Well, from the moment Naturalle (sp?) touched my head, I knew I was in good hands. She was very welcoming and friendly. She obviously has a love for kinky, coily hair. I didn’t have to blow dry my hair, nor did I have to worry about her using the wrong combs/​tools for my hair.
Matter of fact, a comb never touched my head, the whole time. Amazing. She’s quick, gentle and skilled. When I saw the finished look (two-​strand twists), I was too happy for words. The twists were full and fluffy… not weighed down with heavy styling products. Naturalle understood my hair texture and opted to use the method best suited to give me the look I wanted.
Textures by Nefertiti always comes up in discussions regarding the «best» in natural hair styling, in Detroit, from people who know what’s up. Now I know why.
