University Dry Cleaners

Live near by and have used them 20+ times over the last 10 years for cleaning, alterations, and steaming. Cleaning is always good, always on time, and I never had anything stained or damaged like other reviews. I even had some Indian traditional wear with tons of rhinestones done here with some special cleaning process that’s different than usual dry cleaning, I was nervous but the owners son promised me it would be OK and it came back 100% perfect. Everyone there has always been great and friendly. I’ve had 3 alterations done as well, two hems and a support strap repaired on a halter dress. All were done well and on time. I’ve also had things steam pressed there 10+ times including a lab coat on way to work when my iron had broken unexpectedly and I told them it was an emergency could they do it in 5 min and they did.

Since I work at the University this dry cleaners is very convenient for me. Yeah, it doesn’t appear clean, it’s a little seedy, but they do a good job dry cleaning my clothes. Never had any issues with them. The only thing is if you park outside you have to feed a parking meter or chance getting a parking ticket. Me, I would rather put the quarter into the meter, but this new parking meter system in Detroit you have to go out of your way to get to the meter. Oh well, this is not the establishments rules/​regulations — it is the «D“s problem or access to funds!
I will continue taking all my clothes that need to be taken to the dry cleaners to this establishment because of the convenience and the workers inside have all been nice to me.

These guys are the absolute best dry cleaners downtown! As a picky New Yorker with tons of dry cleaning– I love how fast and perfect their cleaning services are! I even trust truly high end items with them (Burberry, Ferragamo, etc) — and everything always comes out really nicely!

Shirts are always wrinkled after having them cleaned. Wrinkles are in the worst spots (ie. the collar, the cuffs). All in all a pretty bad job. Can’t seem to find a good dry cleaner in Detroit.

Ruined 4 shirts with brown stains on each shirt but they refused to acknowledge they did the damage. I’d been going to another cleaners for a year with no issues and 2^nd cleaning in with University I loose 4 shirts. Worse part is they did not stand behind their work and offer replacement value or some type of compensation. Horrible customer service from the people I dealt with and just a bad business.

All in all, not a huge fan. After apparently having been spoiled by my last dry cleaners, bringing my business here was a mistake. At first, they put so much start on my shirts that I could have used it as drywall, and they persisted even after I asked them to use a bit less. Then, I had a shirt that came back torn from them. When I brought this to their attention, I was told by the daughter of the owner that it ‘wasn’t possible’ that they had ripped it, but that they’d be glad to mend it. She basically told me that I was lying and that I was trying to get something for free. All in all, it’s alright, but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

Recommended by a policewoman, I found this place to be very good. I like that they are close, friendly and they do a great job. Affordable, too.

After I complained, University Dry Cleaners re-​cleaned the clothes free of charge. The woman behind the counter basically told me that the clothes will be cleaner if you bring them in first thing in the morning (I guess that the chemicals in the drycleaning bags run out later in the day?). I pointed out that it shouldn’t matter when I drop them off — I am paying to have them cleaned!

I’ve been using University Dry Cleaners for five years and although I don’t often have a lot of dry cleaning for them to do, they have willing done a number of other small related projects including taking in sleeves on jackets, re-​weaving a tear in a woven jacket, and washing/​disinfecting a very nasty (but expensive) bag that someone left a banana in over the summer.
They’re nice, quick and I’ve never had any problems with them.

Great customer service with good personality, and quality dry clean/​laundry service. Over the 2 years of using this place, I’ve never lost a button on my shirt. I have also had some pants altered, and the outcome was very satisfactory.
Provides same-​day service, open until 7 p.m. and on Saturdays.
