I’m a new member this year and my experience has been nothing short of excellent. Danielle the manager made me feel welcome from day 1 and the rest of the staff is impeccable, friendly and always going out of their way to help. Lots of birds, the trap field is never crowded(and very reasonably priced), great fishing, and every member I’ve met has been someone I would be friends. Everyone we’ve come across in the field has been very respectful of keeping the proper distance, been quick to give up productive fields and safety is never a concern. It’s also great to see families every time I’ve been out including a woman and her(daughter?) who had the two biggest pheasants I saw all day, and a father teaching his son who was probably about 9 years old to shoot a shotgun for the first time. The kid hit the very first clay of course. I’ll keep coming back!

I love this club. I remember the day that Daniel started 37 years ago working in the kitchen. She is fair and firm. The place hasn’t changed much. I do wish the main road was smooth.

The island it self is beautiful. It is a hidden gem. If you have never been to the island or around Rio Vista flatlands and marsh area you should go! The Club Membership is worth it. Great place to practice your trap shooting. They have beautiful, well taken care of, and clean dogs you can rent if you like hunting birds. The food from the onsite café was pretty good. Especially, the Spanish Omelette. Heavenly, chili with roast beef over eggs. Tasted the Ortega Burger and Quesadilla. Both were good! The Quesadilla had the Ortega chilies and bacon.

I have several issues with this place. First and foremost at a hunting club the safety rules need to be enforced, they are not. When serious safety issues occur(like being peppered with buckshot by a nearby gun nut firing straight at me and my dog) reporting the rule-breaker to the office gets no reaction and no response. The lack of response from Danielle, in particular, is disturbing since she is supposed to be managing. And now that I have complained, the last 2 times I have been out to the club I have been treated very coldly by the counter staff, and have been ignored when I try to speak to them. I must admit, this last visit was a better hunting experience. I saw the employees actually enforce the safety rules, and I didn’t get shot at for the first time all season. I was reconsidering whether to write this review, but I was treated so rudely by the staff that I cannot in good conscience give any more stars. Too bad, this used to be a good place to hunt.

Lance Keller, Gun Tailor, did a great job customizing my shotgun to me. In one day, I greatly improved my shooting.

It uesd to be a nice club, but the last two years I hunted it it went to crapp. I was shot one year about 50 yards from the shooter grass was’nt more than eight inches tall, the next and my last year I was hunting a field when a group of hunters[idiots] came into the field from the other end about 50 yards to my left walking towards me. I took my dog and turned away to get out of there and he locked up on a bird, before I could find the bird one of thier dogs ran in and busted it out from under my dog. I tunrned and looked at these clowns like what the hell and they cussed me out telling me I cut them off. I left and went to the office and reported to darniel alot of good that did. Like I said it used to be a good club, you could not pay me to hunt there again.

First day as a new member was great. Friendly. Good attitude. Nice facilities. Huge place. We saw them put out a lot of birds. My friend and I have now hunted there a couple times and continue to be impressed by how welcoming everyone is and the quality of the land. It’s a lot of fun being able to go hunt so close to home, and not be walking a plot of land where someone just planed a bird for you to shoot. It’s as wild of pheasant hunting as we’re going to get in the bay area. It’s also a great place for kids. I’ve seen a number of little munchkins out hunting with their family. Every club member and the club itself seems to be sincerely excited to get the next generation out hunting.
