Ramtown Karate

I’ve been a student at Ramtown Karate since 2000, as have both of my children who are now 19 and 25. I’ve been to other karate schools and can easily say that Ramtown Karate is far superior to any other I’ve been to! I’ve seen so many schools that are quick to promote their students to Black Belt, then the students find that’s all they have to offer and leave. Not so at Ramtown, acquiring a black belt there means there is much more to continue learning. The instructors are friendly, knowledgable and enthusiastic. It’s a great family atmosphere and I think most students there really do feel a sense of «family». I particularly like the self-​defense curriculum and appreciate the fact that they offer free self-​defense workshops to the community a few times each year.

The instruction is generally good. Kids learn a bit about discipline and karate. There is one issue that I have with the business, the kids have to pay a small amount pretty frequently (every 6 weeks) to be «examined» if they know what they have been instructed and whoever parent hasn’t paid, their kid is left behind. This is on top on the $ 170+ monthly fee. The exam takes place during the hour that all parents have paid. I find this strategy appalling and beneath any honorable business — if you want more money, just put it on the monthly fee. Every now and then I see the eyes from the kids that are left behind and it is heart breaking.

This place has helped shaped me into who I am today. I feel confident, strong, responsible, tough, and that I belong. I could not imagine my life without this place. Every year that I have been here, I grow in ways that I never thought imaginable. I have seen so many people come in and out of these doors with their life having been changed for the better. I am so proud of what Ramtown is, and what they do. I have so much trust and respect for this place, and would not want to be anywhere else. The instructors are passionate, professional, and above all extremely knowledgeable. Their curriculum has evolved over the 30 something years that is has been in existence and is EFFECTIVE. The training at Ramtown is not a joke, we train for real life situations. If you want to better yourself, be tough, strong, become a good fighter then this is the place for you.
Also would like to clarify any misconceptions about the pricing. They are in the affordable range in comparison to the US National Average of Karate Instruction per month. The average is around $ 149 per month, and their prices are well below that.
Would like to note on something that I take a lot of pride in, their Self Defense curriculum.
Their Self Defense program is one that is tied into the everyday curriculum. The program combines full contact karate techniques, jujitsu, judo, krav maga, kickboxing, pressure point compliance, and submission grappling; and took many years of trial and error to develop. There is no other way that I would want to learn self defense.

This is the perfect sport for all children! My son has shown great improvement in stamina, balance, coordination and strength. Learning self defense, respect, patience, and politeness is so important! There is not another sport where a child can get all of this together! The gym is clean and well maintained. The Sensei’s are kind, considerate, and enthusiastic. How can you NOT have your child experience something like this?
