An old style hardware store featuring not only many 1000’s of items of hardware and home goods, but also staff for whom customer service is a way of life, not just an add-​on you find if you get lucky. If you like wandering for miles without finding a clerk, let alone one who knows anything about anything, this isn’t the place for you, but if you need a shade cut, or a key made, or someone to talk to about the ants that invaded last night, stop by! Metered street parking is usually available out front, but there is a step up to enter.

I love Readers True Value Hardware & Paint store! The service is A+++. Unlike at Home Depot or Lowes, the experienced, knowledgeable staff is right there ready to help shoppers find what they are looking for. And, often that is helping me find something to do something that it wasn’t originally meant for LOL! I am also constantly amazed that in this small store they nearly always have what I am looking for.

Most helpful hardware store around! I bought some composite deck rail from Home Depot online which they refused to help me cut it when I brought them to the store. Asked around different stores no one was willing to help even if I offer to pay them. But the guys at readers helped me out without charge (with the usual sardonic humor other reviewer mentioned)! I’m going to come back here for all my hardware needs even I don’t Iive in the town anymore!

Great store. I go here quite often and I have never gone there looking for a part that they did not have. Plenty of workers in the store and all knowledgable about their craft. Even though this is a local mom and pop shop it blows Home Depot out of the water. I cannot say enough good things about this store.

Great hardware store. Contractor oriented which has it’s pros and cons: pro they have everything… Con they close at five in a town where no one gets home until 6:30.

Service! That is what Reader’s True Value gives you. I called on Thursday to get a BBQ for my new house. Over the phone I ordered it and they said it would be delivered and put together free of charge and in or backyard the next day which it was! It was te same price as the large commercial hardware stores without the hassle. I called back for something else and they were incredibly helpful. I guess I found my go to hardware store! Can’t say enough because it is just so nice to go someplace where people take pride in their work!

Mar. 2013. It’s been 10 yrs since we moved to Dobbs Ferry. At first I principally used H_​ome D_​epot — 5 miles and 20 minutes away — but within 1 – 2 years I found that using Reader’s was a huge time AND money saver. E.g., for a number of small projects, they often found a way to make a group of small parts work that cost me $ 4 or $ 5, say, that would have cost me many multiples at HD (e.g. to hook a new washing machine to existing water pipes). On many items they are significantly cheaper than the hardware stores in Tarrytown or Ardsley, e.g., simple light switches and boxes — even tubes of 100% silicone — will be 30%-50% cheaper at Readers. They also have a great selection of household goods at a reasonable cost, e.g., Mr. Coffee makers, copy paper, gardening stuff, light bulbs of all types (including the new & expensive CFR’s which you might learn don’t last as long as advertised). Many bolts, screws, nuts, can be bought piecemeal, instead of unneeded multi-​paks like at HD or other hardware stores. Want a 5’5″ wire cable w/​crimped looped ends? They do it for you & only charge for 5’5″ of cable and crimp clamp, maybe $ 3 to $ 6 total for 30 minutes of their effort and use of their crimping machine: you can’t beat that kind of service. In short, due to a low retirement income, I’m necessarily a bargain hunter, and Readers helps me A LOT, to stretch my retirement $$.

Readers Hardware is a magnificent place. I am just waiting for the Discovery Channel to do a show for Billy and his crew. I challenge anyone to go to the store to find a piece of hardware that Billy can not produce. It is truly amazing. The service is A-​1. Readers is a Dobbs Ferry treasure and a lesson in customer service. It is easy to support a local business like Readers. I suggest you do the same.
