I’m not sure what they put in their cakes, or whatever, but it’s delicious. I’m going to go out on a limb here, but I think she is the caterer in Heaven, because just one bite makes you think you’ve died and gone to heaven. If I have a break up, I need Mrs. Winters to appear with some fresh Banana pudding– oh my gawd why is this stuff so good? I feel like walking around with a spoon in hand in case I come in contact with these delicious treats unexpectedly.

Since Village Foods Closed, so did my supply of these yummy cakes. I also lost 5 lbs but that’s besides the point. That was 5 good lbs that were in all the right places. I need those 5 lbs back… and I need my Mrs. Winters Cakes. Well, I happened to go to to the Am/Pm gas station on Lake Park here in Hyde Park for a bottle of water. What do I see but my YUMMYCAKE! YES! YES! YES!!! Never disappear on me again Mrs. Winters Cakes!

I live in the south suburbs, but work in Chicago. I’d never heard of Mrs. Winter’s Cakes until one day about a year or so ago I bought one on a whim at Walgreens… OMG! That was the best yellow cake with chocolate frosting ever! …and at Walgreens no less. Then they started disappearing from the Walgreens stores. I have requested that the Walgreens in my neighborhood stock them, but it hasn’t happened yet; they carry another local brand. One evening after work I went to 7(Seven!) Walgreens stores on the south side and south suburbs looking for her cakes. Finally, I found them at the Walgreens in Dolton on 147th Street. I learned that her bakery was in Dolton and went there the next day. Mrs. Winters is a real person who is actually in the kitchen baking! Not only is she a gifted baker, the love of her craft evident, but she is a really nice and warm person. I’ve also had the butter cookies, sour cream cake, and the caramel cake. She uses real caramel and the cakes are always fresh tasting. My coworkers started sending me out to the ‘burbs during lunch to get cakes — and oh, by the way, they come in cupcake too. And her prices are very reasonable. She also bakes sweet potato pies during the fall holiday season. They are perfect!

STAYAWAYFROMTHISPLACE if you’re trying to lose weight! LOL Those Lunchroom Butter Cookies are sooooo addictive. So I decided that I wouldn’t even drive by the place, and then I saw the cookies in Walgreens! Yikes! Of course, I had to buy them. Her Red Velvet Cake is also to die for! This lady can BAKE! Everything is so delicious. If you are looking for a sweet treat that is reasonably priced, you have to check this place out.

Think back to your elementary school days… The smell and taste of those lunchroom butter cookies was pure heaven to your nose and palate. Mrs. Winters cakes captures the pure essence of these cookies from yesteryear. She nails the taste that will engulf you with old school nostalgia in one bite. Pssst… Try the Sour Crème Cake also… You can find her products in many Chicagoland Walgreens near the checkout counter. You can also visit her store in the south suburbs.
