RECOMMEND — A premier quail hunting resort near the Florida border in southwest Georgia(«Deep Dixie»). Family-owned. Offers traditional plantation bob white quail hunting experience(walk-up with two shooters at a time with guide in between; pointers holding and flushing dogs to kick the coveys up). Never a disappointment. What’s different? Travel around the property on horseback or mule-pulled carriages — this is done in the 19th century GA plantation quail hunting tradition. I like it. Orvis-certified and two Beretta trident awards. Lodging is true 5-Star quality; no expense spared in the construction and furnishings. The food is Southern cuisine, delicious and plentiful, and the owner-hosts and the help are gracious folks. Comfortable guest visiting spaces in the main lodge. Great outdoor veranda views in the evening. The Best Part: Lots of prime forested land to cover; plenty of fast-flying tasty birds. In the field, the hunting guides are expert, pleasant and helpful, the dogs are reliable, and the bob white quail are screaming fast; I call them ‘rocket quail’; not your typical ‘popcorn’ quail from the usual local hatcheries — .410 gauge shooters will be challenged and cycling a pump gun is a handicap here. These birds are gone in a blink, so shoot fast or forget it. Like quick-draw trick shots. Rare to get a ‘double’. Trust me.
