There’s a new food truck in town! Apparently The Brownstone Oven just hit the road this past weekend, and I really hope that people hear about them quickly, because they deserve to join a food truck line-up right with the Mac And Gold Truck and Franktuary. The Brownstone Oven is all about making pizza(and a little more!) using a unique wood-fired oven and local ingredients. I had a chance to sample some of their food during a networking event at the Wigle Whiskey barrelhouse on the North Side, and just, wow! During the night they served up two main styles of pizza(pepperoni and mushroom, as well as pesto and speck with mozzarella), a huge tray of bruschetta, and gouda dip and pita. Thanks to sharing food with my friends, I was able to sample everything they offered but the pepperoni and mushroom pizza. The gouda dip was very thick but surprisingly light, considering its main ingredient — it went great with the pita. The bruschetta was also excellent, as it was comprised of perfectly toasted bread and was absolutely piled high with tomatoes and basil, with just a sprinkle of cheese on top. Yum! And the pesto pizza? Just… can I get these delivered? Please? Served on a thin pizza shell, it was cut into four large slices and piled high with fresh pesto. The mozzarella rings and balsamic drip on it added the perfect dash of additional flavor to the whole entourage. Also, I went to send MAJOR kudos to the truck staff for adjusting their standard pizza recipe and creating a vegan pizza for my coworker! She devoured her pizza and absolutely loved it, too. I’m really excited to see this food truck at more events in the future. The staff were extremely nice and so accommodating, and they made some of the freshest food I’ve had in a while. So far, it definitely looks and tastes like they’re off to a great start!
