Fern Bank

I went to dine at the Fern Bank with a Red Hat group. They seated us up on a platform that was accessed by a treacherous staircase (keep in mind many of our members are elderly and have trouble with regular stairs). There is salad bar with only a few uninspired items and bottled salad dressings. You are given a small styrofoam bowl for your salad. Your steak is served on a paper plate. For all of this, you are charged what you would pay for a high end steak house. I ate there once and NEVER again.

I had a great time visiting this fine establishment. Be warned though, they are only open Wednesday through Saturday. Also it is one of the four/​five places you can have a drink with your meal.
In town for work and came here to have dinner one night, as places here are limited. I think I visited just about every place in the area during my stay. This place by far had the best steak in town and one of best steaks I’ve had for the price. As I like to put it, where else can you get a great steak that comes served on a plastic plate.
Don’t be deterred by the throw away plates. I ordered the 12 oz Filet medium rare and it was cooked/​seasoned to perfection. Also this place doesn’t have an official kitchen so everything is cooked outside on the grill. That takes skill.
I’ll definitely come back to fern bank when I’m in town again, which for my job will probably be in about a month.

In town visiting family and this restaurant was recommended to eat at. First off we waited a while to be seated. For appetizer we had the crab cakes. They tasted like they pulled them out of the freezer and were premade (horrible). The Mahi Mahi was uneatable and the steak had a funny taste to eat. Will not be going back. The only good part was our server. He was very nice and refunded us for the crab cakes.

Absolutely will not ever, return!!! Stopped in slightly after the normal supper hour. Stood at the front door and waited to be greeted for nearly ten minutes and was not ever approached. Two separate waitresses made eye contact while serving their patrons. But gave no acknowledgment that my friend and me were even there. Finally, we turned and left.

Came in town to take some clients to dinner. Great atmosphere! Mahi-​mahi was awesome! Steak was great! I think it’s the best place in town. Will definitely stop by the next time I come through Douglas!

Best burger my husband ever had. I had the petite filet and it was excellent. Minimal salad bar, but what was there was fresh. Not a large menu, it is mostly a steak place, but they do offer a few seafood items. Very casual atmosphere, but interesting rustic type of place. I would definitely go back.
