Probably one of the best regional museum’s in the country-this fresh, bejeweled museum is a must-see for anyone visiting the region. It’s 45 minutes from any place in Delaware! I love the painting collection and the period galleries are really artful.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this is the best museum in ALL of Dover. Sarcasm aside, this place has a really respectable collection of art. Three floors of exhibits showcase a variety of eras, media, and subject matter. I was particularly impressed by the extensive furniture collection on the second floor. I also enjoyed the combination of modern art from featured fellows in contrasted exhibits near older pieces. The whole thing is very tastefully done up and best of all, it’s free! There is an optional paid exhibit of watercolors for $ 5 on the first floor. There’s also a charming gift shop by the door. Overall, this was definitely the best place to kill a few hours with my parents visiting one rainy weekend. I have been back since, as it offers a peaceful, lovely sanctuary within the historic district.

The Biggs has an impressive collection of regional artwork and is located with a beautiful view overlooking The Green. Their rotating exhibits offer something for everyone. I have always found their staff to be friendly and helpful. Spend a day of it– enjoy lunch downtown and after the museum spend time wandering Loockerman Street through the locally owned boutiques. Bel Boutique is a favorite of mine!
