Just the Thing

I like this store A LOT, and buy from them regularly. The largest pieces I’ve purchased are a full sized bed frame (labeled as a queen… Fixing that was a headache and a half), a dresser, and a kitchen table. Even the fabric for my napkins and ornaments are from the store. With that said, they’re pricey, stocked floor to ceiling, and a tight squeeze to maneuver your way around in. The house dog Maggie is sweet though, and I’d recommend stopping in at least.

My favorite store. The ladies that opened the store this AM were helpful. Today I purchased a secretary desk and had it delivered. They were able to deliver it today too! The people that delivered my piece were very nice too. I’ll return.

A wonderfully managed, well stocked, easy to navigate, and excellent prices. This shop has it all, including exceptional customer services and new items for sale every week. The combination of vintage, upcycled, antique, whimsical, vintage chic, and artsy bric-​à-​brac and stylish furniture and accessories is widely varied for every taste and budget. Highly recommend a regular browse when you are in Dover.

I went by this place many times while living here. Frankly I will never go back. Lots of refurbished JUNK. Whoever is painting this garbage has to make sure it’s also functional. Many of the painted dresser drawers were broken. They are crowded and overpriced, not to mention they have horrible customer service. Not one hello from anyone. As I was walking our the door I noticed they had what I was looking for. I kept walking.

I like this store. I can always find «Just the Thing» while browsing through, a unique and different piece that will complement my home and have guests ask «where did you find that?» The only downfall is you really can’t go in here with a child. Mine is well behaved and does well in a stroller or a backpack, but I can’t maneuver either in this store. No way to push the stroller through the store and if I wore him in a backpack I’m fairly certain I’d knock things over. It’s a cool place to shop, but doing so with kids would be less than enjoyable.

Whenever I spend time outside New York, I see these little shops. Cutesy housewares stores, often in malls, usually with exactly the same merchandise. It always seems to be replicating a style, but until yesterday I had never seen the actual authentic *style* before at a store. When I walked in here, I was expecting the mall version, which usually features metal barn stars painted or sanded down to look like the paint is chipping. But as soon as I walked in, I realized that the «antiqued» surfaces were actually antique! Imagine my surprise!
Once I noticed this, my energy perked up and I suddenly went from sllightly interested to manic. I NEEDED to have antique perfume bottles, beautiful wood and metal mirrors, and stunning wood furniture. Not that I actually got to buy much of the stuff, but you understand…
The prices were low. Lower than the crap chain store version. The two items I did end up purchasing were small and large blue glass mason jars, priced at $ 5 and $ 8, I believe (for comparisons sake, a more modern version of the larger one is for sale on Etsy for $ 31). I also picked up a small wood block with my initial on it for a quarter.
I have seen fake mall shops, and I have seen pretentious antique stores, but I have never seen something like this. This place is absolutely worth traveling for, and I can’t wait to return!
ps. I wish I knew about this place when we were decorating our apartment because they have some REALLY beautiful wooden furniture here. For cheap.

This is a great place to pick up unusual gifts or home furnishings.
I do have two suggestions: they need evening hours (especially during Christmas season), and they should change some of their stock more often. I bought a framed print about 3 years ago and they stil have a copy of the same one for sale on their wall. That said, this place is well worth checking out.
